Hello, how does this deck compare with a Revox B77 ? any insight would be appreciated...!

Both are great decks, along with the Technics RS-1500 I would put these three at the top of the consumer decks. Some people say the Revox is more reliable, as it is more likely to "work" as found, where the TEAC has a belt and double capstan mechanism which rarely works as found. However, all reel to reel decks need a full restoration at this point and I find the TEACs incredibly reliable when fully restored and calibrated. The Revox will also really need a full recap, as German capacitors of the period have not held up as well as their Japanese counterparts.
Feature wise, the TEAC is a newer design (83 vs 77) with double capstan and servo control, the gentlest tape handling of any consumer deck. The Revox has a direct drive capstan, is great looking and also a bit shorter.
The sound quality will mostly depend on the condition of the heads and the quality of the calibration.
Good luck. your search. Which do you like?

@@Round2Audio Thanks for your insightful reply..! I am hard pressed choosing between the 2 , as I have been offered both, The Revox is cheaper and a bit more used looking, whereas the Technics looks much 'newer', but at 1k more to purchase. Also I have been offered an MCI pro deck and an Ampex 350, this makes me wonder if I should even bother with the prosumer decks at all...

I thought reels were either gray silver or black or clear I didn't know they came in different colors like red

ATR Magnetics has these red reels, they may also have blue.

This deck sold a while ago, the TEACs always go fast. Follow round2audio on eBay. I try to do two or three of these a year. Thanks for your interest.
