John, not only are your posts educational and helpful, but you are so entertaining. Great personality and always uplifting. Not to mention prolific. I run into you here, on Instagram and on Pottery Heads on Facebook. Thanks for encouraging my new obsessive hobby (pottery, not social media) and thanks for being you!
Jon! Just wanted to let you know that you've been one of my biggest pottery inspirations... I just got hired today as a pottery vendor for a small candle store. They want me to make them mugs on the daily. You've been my biggest teacher for mug making, so thank you.
I love the texture and can't even believe I didn't think about it! Supercool! How you have the energy to do everything you do is beyond me! So proud of you!
I just got interested in pottery after finding a studio offering some workshops near my apartment, love your energy dude! Subscribed! I hope my first project turns out that pretty
Am so stoked to see the progress of the new studio! Always enjoy your videos and talk about them all the time in my pottery class, lol. This texture isn’t really my thing, but I’m in process of trying out your pine tree etching as I really love those 😍
Noticed your comment about where you buy glazes- me too! Started buying at Minnesota Clay about 18 years ago and was delighted two years ago when we actually walked through the doors! I usually had things shipped to me in Wisconsin, but we attended a trade show nearby and so I got to shop in person. Spent way too much money but now it’s a yearly stop for us. Good luck on your new studio- very exciting!
Great additions to your videos! (Narrating, showing the tool and the text!) Awesome :) Thank you for your videos! (It's exciting watching you become famous!)
I LOVED watching that! I’m from Sydney, Australia, and honestly, I was looking to see if I could start making my own pots as part of my business and kind of expand my shop (without a pottery wheel 😂), and came across your video. Very inspiring, and I LOVE those mugs! Gorgeous! Definitely inspired! Hope you’re business is going well and your studio is in operation now! 🙂👊🏽
Those mugs are really cool! I am looking into doing more pottery projects myself. I am a new subscriber and I also love the way that you glazed the mugs! Have a great day.😊
Love that texture! Fun fun! Love your excitement. I may try one of those. We’ll see. I had my first bazaar Saturday and it went great. Thanks to your guidance.
Jonthepotter Honestly it was the chip and dips and bowls with the ( forgot name) black rim green all over and buttercream on rim and inside. Everyone loved that glaze. I didn’t sell many mugs though. I’m wondering if I over priced them, $25 for ones with appliqué, and $20 for plain. Maybe it just wasn’t the right market for them. The coasters did great also! I did 4 for $25. This weekend is my second bazaar and it’s two days so maybe there will be more people ready to buy mugs for Xmas. Thank you!!!
In my ceramics class today, I will definitely try your techniques of glazing and also creating texture. Wish me luck! And thanks for the video Jon!! Have a good day or night!!
Happy Thanksgiving, Jon!! I can't wait for the studio to be finished. I know you're excited!! The textured mugs look fantastic...I made a few candle holders with that tool/texture and they turned out great!
Hi Jon. I love the mugs, gonna use that idea AND this is arguably one of the best videos you've done. Don't know wh,y, maybe the narration, I found that it helped me focus more on your technique. I do watch videos a few times, the repetition helps as you say. Especially the live mug throwing you did recently. Thanks--Andrea 🇬🇧
I really love that texture, I've done that on my mugs only I make Bowl style mugs. I love how it feels when you're drinking a cup of coffee. Don't forget the extra door in your studio, would hate to see get trapped if something happened
@Jonthepotter I'm very new to pottery, but am really enjoying it so far. Your videos are great! My goal is to make a set of 4 mugs - do you have any tips on how to get the size and diameter to be somewhat uniform between each mug?
i love the texture cup i would try it out one of these days and the voice over is great if it's easy for you if not do what ever is easiest. But i do love the talking on camera but the voice over is cleaner..
holaaa me encantan tus esmaltes si hay algo que se destaca tu trabajo es los esmaltes, dime le pusistes negro afuera y azul adentro el blando es el final??? me encanto felicitaciones!!!saludos desde Punta del Este, URUGUAY
Jon! I just started pottery around august and am so thankful for your videos. Even got the hubby watching. Just bought a Brent wheel this past week. Yay! What kind of clay do you use? And you mentioned less expensive glazes in one of your videos. Can you share more on those? Hey, happy for you on your new studio. 😊
I use Buff Stoneware from continental clay, and glazes made by continental clay and MN clay, thanks!! I have a few videos about glazing that I talk about specifics!
Everytime i see you make mugs i think it looks so effortless. Like I'm sure the clays not that "loose" but it looks super soft and flexible. Lol does that make any sense?
Gorrrrrrrrrgeous x I only started pottery this year..... started with a mini wheel in March, making mini vases. My husband surprised me with an old Wenger wheel ❤ Do you use stoneware for mugs? At the moment my small kiln will only hit earthenware temperatures, but looking into getting it upgraded. I'd love you to take a look at my Facebook or Instagram page for your opinion on how I'm doing so far, love Claire x
Another great video, I love the narration. You could have a second business as a film maker! I am off to order a serrated edge kidney love the effect of this, thank you!
Love this mug! I am totally about to do something similar! I already have one of those ribs soooo I have to try right? lol does it matter how think the glaze around the rim is? Should it be thicker so it doesn’t drip too much?
All depends on what you want?? I tend to not dip as far so it doesn't drip quite as much as normal since I want the texture to show and not be covered by glaze.
I found this and thought it would be fun to show you how far you've come in such a short time. Your almost done with the new studio. Kinda makes you giddy right?
QUestion: How long do you leave your clay out to air dry to start glazing or do you let it slow cook in the kiln? also after glazing how long and what tempt do you leave the glazed pottery in there?
Depends on what it is, smaller things dry in a couple days, larger things can take 3-4 days or more! Glazing takes 8-10 hours to heat up and another 10 -12 to cool down!
hey Jon! I tried the texture on the last mug I made and it was super fun and the texture came out but the lines weren't very clean and got little "boogers" of clay on my texture and so the lines weren't as clean as yours. is there any way to fix this? Should I let my clay dry a little before putting the texture?
And how is the paint job done? Could you make a video on that too?
John, not only are your posts educational and helpful, but you are so entertaining. Great personality and always uplifting. Not to mention prolific. I run into you here, on Instagram and on Pottery Heads on Facebook. Thanks for encouraging my new obsessive hobby (pottery, not social media) and thanks for being you!
Haha thanks! Yeah just trying to grow the channel!
👀 Oh stop it, you know you're just saying that to get a mug...just playing lol. Totally agree with you!
Great uncle thank you for your help

Very professionally done! You’re becoming quite the videographer! That new studio is going to be the BOSS!
Jon! Just wanted to let you know that you've been one of my biggest pottery inspirations... I just got hired today as a pottery vendor for a small candle store. They want me to make them mugs on the daily. You've been my biggest teacher for mug making, so thank you.
Cool!! That's awesome!! Congrats!
I love the texture and can't even believe I didn't think about it! Supercool! How you have the energy to do everything you do is beyond me! So proud of you!

I LOVED watching that!

Awesome video. Have you done a video on which clay bodies are best? For example, what clay is recommended for dinnerware, microwave safe, etc.
I liked you talking while throwing and giving note to basic throwing technique.
Those mugs are really cool! I am looking into doing more pottery projects myself. I am a new subscriber and I also love the way that you glazed the mugs! Have a great day.😊
Love, love, love the textured mugs!! Gonna try it myself!
I’ve had a hard day today but finding your channel has certainly helped! 😁
I like your mugs its really a piece of art , I hope to learn this soon
Love that texture! Fun fun! Love your excitement. I may try one of those. We’ll see. I had my first bazaar Saturday and it went great. Thanks to your guidance.
Nice ! What were the big sellers??
Jonthepotter

Thanks! That means a lot, I spent some extra time on this one :). I am loving the progression in video production, I'm having a lot of fun!
Love love LOVE the narrating! 😍 And everything you do basically 😏
I really like when you do the voice over afterwards.
Beautiful
Definitely doing your textured mugs thanks, been following you for awhile now.
Thanks!
Love them!

Pumped to see the studio
I hope they have internet in Bora Bora so you can still watch and comment on my videos:)
Thanks for the informative video. Gonna try it.
Love those mugs! Where can I buy one?
I didn't know Bradley Cooper was into pottery, pretty cool.
Love it!!!
@Jonthepotter I'm very new to pottery, but am really enjoying it so far. Your videos are great! My goal is to make a set of 4 mugs - do you have any tips on how to get the size and diameter to be somewhat uniform between each mug?
Nice video . Enjoyed it
احب جداا هذي الأعمال ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👌

love your work ❤️❤️❤️
These are lovely!
I love your mugs. I put texture on my mugs, but don’t do your glazing technique, which I will try. Thanks again for another great video.
i love the texture cup i would try it out one of these days and the voice over is great if it's easy for you if not do what ever is easiest. But i do love the talking on camera but the voice over is cleaner..

Love these mugs Jon. Definitely going to give them a go.
Don’t know why it took me so long to see this video 🤪

Jonthepotter cool! I found them online. Keep up the great videos.
Without question the best thing I’ve found since my city has been on stay at home thingy
same... hey my name's also Aishah. what a coincidence!
Everytime i see you make mugs i think it looks so effortless. Like I'm sure the clays not that "loose" but it looks super soft and flexible. Lol does that make any sense?
Yeah sometimes even when I go back and watch myself it looks more mesmerizing then it feels, thanks for watching!
Gorrrrrrrrrgeous x

I like the dark blue color mug. How to do it?
supper awesommme
Love the voice over.

Who ever disliked the vid must of made their hand slip *-*
This is awesome!
Where can I buy this cup? I really love it.
Would be really cool to see some of your techniques slower than real time :) for beginners I think this would be really helpful.
Hey that's a good idea maybe I'll do some slo mo throwing!
Or slo mo everything:)
I like the mugs! I am curious about your source for glazes as well.
MN Clay in Plymouth MN and Continental clay in Minneapolis, MN, thanks!
Awesome video, I was just wondering how you make the handles? You didn't show that part :D
If you have a underglaze that fires at 5/6 and a glaze that fires at 06/6 can you fire them together/on top of each other?
Thanks for sharing!
I found this and thought it would be fun to show you how far you've come in such a short time. Your almost done with the new studio. Kinda makes you giddy right?
Love your videos and how you share your techniques. Was the second glaze a green?
What kind of clay did you use for the cup
Hey do you have a website where I can use your glaze recipes?
Just my kind of coffee mug, but would love it in a light blue/ light cobolt or reddish tint........
And what is the name of the thing what spins? Where can I buy it?
how did you make the handle stronger
What are the glazes you used?
What are common dimensions of the mugs you make height and width wise, I can never make them very proportional
Where can we purchase your items at?.
Perfect
If your making a pinch pot and it’s starts cracking like old people skin around the rim is that normal and okay to still use?
What are the materials used to get the dough please
hey Jon! I tried the texture on the last mug I made and it was super fun and the texture came out but the lines weren't very clean and got little "boogers" of clay on my texture and so the lines weren't as clean as yours. is there any way to fix this? Should I let my clay dry a little before putting the texture?
I can't seem to find any mention of what you used for your second glaze color? Would love to know. Thanks bunches!!! ~~Debz
Probably Metallic green from MN clay, or Luster Green from Continental Clay!
@@Jonthepotter ¡Muchas gracias!
