    I still have the old red classic of this gun that I bought over 30 years ago. Still working great!

    Next time I need to get a stray balloon off my turntable I will know exactly what to do. I hate when a balloon just floats into my house and attaches it to my turntable like that when I am trying to play a record! Just kidding! This is a good demonstration! I think I have been using mine incorrectly. Still, I can't seem to squeeze or let go of the trigger without the click! Good video! Thumbs up!

    Finally! Looked at the doc and several videos. No one explained the technique to making this work or what the Ion Indicator is for. The big takeaway for me is that:
    1) The trigger should be pressed slowly so as NOT to click. Clicking = Failure, do over.
    2) How to use the ion indicator to verify the unit is working.
    I tried it and my results are much better now. I do get better results holding the record off the turntable. Using the gun with the record on the turntable does work, but it seems less effective. It takes many more trigger pulls.
    I'll check out your site. Thanks!

    Hey Bernie, thanks for the most comprehensive explanation of the Milty Pro ZeroStat 3 I have ever seen. And great advice on using the ion indicator tip as a safety cover. Even though you didn't mention it, if tiny fingers get in the discharge hole, they can damage the pin as well. Didn't know you couldn't use the ZeroState when the LP was on the turntable, but as you proved, it was incorrect information in the first place.

    Thanks for this helpful video. One question, if you aren't supposed to hear the gun click, how come I heard the click during your tests? Is it ok if it click's at the end of the 5 second trigger pull?

    Good video. I make LP to digital transfers and have used the Milty Gun for 15 years. There is no doubt in my mind it helps to reduce but not eliminate static. It saves a lot of time in the remastering in the number of pops and clicks I have to fix. I think the best reason to use one is that it make brushing off of the record more effective. Certainly if you just spin a record for you own pleasure, and it is a record that is in good shape, and not that old (e.g. from 70s or 80s) - you may not have to use one of these. Most listeners will just tune out the noise. But if you want to reduce pops and clicks on a 70 year old LP, along with cleaning the record, it is about the best thing you can use. Plus if you live in colder climates where houses get super dry in winter, static charges build up easily. I use mine a lot in winter.

    One of the most in depth videos I've seen !
    Really makes sense of the use and it's full potential, just one thing I've noticed which I'd like to clear up before adding it to the kit..
    There seem to be a Zerostat 3 Milty and Milty Pro.. does anyone perhaps know of a difference, if one is better than the other, or completely the same ?
    Thanks once again for walking us through !
    Cheers !

    Very useful thanks. I just bought one, its a shame that it costs £50 but comes with two sentences of instructions. Consensus says that if it clicks you are squeezing too fast and damaging the piezo thing. I mention this as yours clicks several times, but works.. Mine barely registers the red LED, unless it clicks. Super confused. Any ideas? Will contact milty obvs, but real world info is always helpful too.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a of of mystery around the anti-stat gun. Yes, the idea is to squeeze slowly because if the piezo clicks the ions aren't flowing properly. I've never heard that it damages the crystal and I would doubt that to be the case but i suppose anything is possible. Milty is the authority on this matter as you've mentioned and to be 100% sure as to the operational 'do's and don'ts' they would be the one to contact. Sorry we couldn't be of more help. Perhaps if we designed the thing... :)

      To make four times in total. More voodoo :-)

    Wait, it does or does not work when the LP is on the turntable? It seemed to work in your demo (the balloon rolled off after a couple of squeezes).

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works both on and off the turntable. However, there are those who advise against using it on a turntable because it may affect delicate electrical components.

  • @peter_aka_hamamass
    @peter_aka_hamamass 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would using the mat and the anti-static brush not be enough to reduce static (and also cleaning a record with anti-static cleaning fluid)? Is the gun still needed then?
    I use an anti-static mat and brush on one turntable, and a anti-static mat with cork spots on the other turntable. All my vinyl is cleaned using a recordcleaner machine with anti-static fluid. Never have any problems with my vinyl. Also i use anti-static innersleeves.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on your environment and whether or not your turntable is setup and grounded properly. In a lot of cases one may not need or find use for an anti-stat gun. There will be occasions however that people would find it very useful. If you are one of those who is having no issues with static with your current method of playing and listening then you're in good shape!

    • @MidwestBoom
      @MidwestBoom 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anti static products such as brushes and sleeves only don't create static they don't remove the static. For the most part you don't need this gun only if you hate getting Zapped when you touch the tonearm or your mat is sticking to your records from static cling. I have saved a couple records though that were unplayable from static hit him with a gun and sounded great again but this is very far and few between

      If it clicks, you can just reset it y releasing the trigger and depress it again. Sometimes you can't help but make it click.

    Hey Bernie - I have the original gun I think I bought it in 1976, I guess I could do a test like the balloon thing you just did, but, what is the life expectancy of this thing?

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the original testing cap, you should be able to plug it into the gun and make sure it's still working as it should.

    Too many clicks when demonstrating the Zerostat. They are clearly audible. Just got a like new one on Ebay for $40. but no tip which does not concern me.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. One thing we've recently learned is that you don't need to squeeze the trigger back very far for the Zerostat to be effective. It will discharge with a half depress.

    • @stillaliveandwell5291
      @stillaliveandwell5291 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BagsUnlimitedRochester The distance the trigger is squeezed has nothing to do with creating the clicks. Going too fast creates the clicks. Go sloooowwww (zen like) and practice getting no clicks and hence a full stream of positive then negative ions.
      Good info on grounding.

    That can actually damage many turntables. of course it will work by removing the charge. But shooting ions at turn tables that have certain sensors in them will misalign the calibration of the sensors, or ruin them. An example would be one of my turntables, the Mitsubishi LT - 20. Per the manufacture this gun will harm the turntable to the point where it will need to be brought to a certified technician for sensor repair. (Tracking sensors in my case)

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester

      All of these steps aren't necessary every time one listens to a record. Ideally, once the record has had an initial proper cleaning, only minimal maintenance is needed with each consecutive listen. There can be quite a few steps when listening to vinyl but it's a labor of live.
