I’m pro se in a civil breach of contract with my son. My son with drug addiction in and out of rehab and jail sold property and didn’t pay me back but, this woman he dated for 6mos had him open a joint bank account moved the money closing the acct and my son had no access. He bought and paid cash on a vehicle this woman has possession of. My son placed me on as a security interest holder in order to pay his debt because he had no access to his money. Six months later he signed an notarized affidavit stating he owed me money on the sell of his property. I was his Power of atty two times while in rehab.
How can I open with that mess. Do I lay that foundation or do I save it when I put myself on the stand? Thank you KV

Thanks for this video. I have to write an opening statement for class, and this is very helpful. I do have one question though:
What if I am not a personable or likable person?
Also wouldn't it be in poor taste to make a joke if the case is about a very horrible crime, like murder and/or rape?

    • @airbornetortilla9489

    • @jordanhenshaw

If you're not a personable or likable person, you shouldn't be a trial lawyer. Be a different kind of lawyer. There are lots of kinds that don't speak in court.

I find it weird now at the age if 47 i look back and think on hiw i always wanted to be a law man law man as in police officer and for many different rrasons and i dont think i KNOW i would have made a fine officer but the more i look back on my past i use to love watching trials on tv but i alwsys had a dislike for attorneys and being honest with my self i think that seed was planted in my head. Not saying all attorneys are bad people but many defense lawyers are scum but now in hindsight i think being a trial lawyer or at least a good one is all about social engineering. The money is there i just always questioned if i could look my self in the mirror each morning knowing i did an excellent job but at the same time put a bad person back out on the street

2 Minutes?!? Where I practice, there is no actual limit on opening statement. However, the Court will give a side-eye when opening statement goes beyond 15-20 minutes unless it is a capital case.
