During it's on the air, I was a 8-year-old. Used to have my timely dinner and watch this show. My brain can still recall the intro. It's so evoking. Makes me a stress free 8 year old again.
Wooooooow....Automan.... I was about 6 or 7 when this came out. I ask people about it, and most people don't remember! Man, I used to love this show... Much props to the person who posted this, it just brings back memories...!
Oh, man this takes me back... Thanks for posting!!!! Anyone old enough or a big enough fan knows that Desi was 'Little Ricky' on "I Love Lucy"... Started in show business very early.... Sorry, I don't know the car type, but it looks more Delorean than Vector. At least the Vectors I've seen... Need this on DVD!
i remember when this cam on bk in the 80's and I live in the Uk. We still got it along with manimal.... used to love this. automan/manimal/a-team/street hawk/knight rider/airwolf/the fall guy now that was some great tv!!!!
I just bought a Spy Hunter arcade machine and thought what ever happened to Automan? Wow I enjoyed this show? But I was around 10 yrs old when it came out.. Great posting.
This show looked expensive (to make), helicopter stunts, Lambos, exotic poolside locations :) I remember watching this show in the UK a few years post TRON and lapping it up. Watching the intro again after all these years I experience what can only be desribed as a reflex action; my buttocks clenched.
It was none other than Glen A. Larson. Same guy behind the original 'Galactica' and Buck Rogers. As for what he was on when he went to the movies to see TRON and came up with the idea to do it as a show, you got me. Loved it when I was a kid, though!
I remember calling my mother and go-"Mooooooom, looooook!!!! He´s glowing!!!! WOW!!!" Well, I´ve lost that lovin´feelin´... Someone take me back to the 80´s before I loose It ;-)
I remember way way back during the summer when the tv stations would create major build up to the new fall line up shows, and this was one of the shows i couldnt wait to see lol. many of the shows are on the list.
Yes, they certainly did broadcast this show in Australia. I used to watch it back in the mid 80s. If I recall, Street Hawk, another show I used to watch, was around close to the same time period.
Yes it's Lucille ("I love Lucy") Ball's son Desi Arnaz Jr who plays the Detective and computer programmer who guides Automan - played by Chuck Wagner to fight crime in L.A. I remember this series a 12 yr old when it was first shown at around 6pm on Saturday Evenings on the BBC in 1984. I know that the makers of this series ABC stopped it after 12 or 13 episodes. Nice theme tune!
What I remember about this show was wondering why every episode took an hour? This guy could do EVERYTHING and really shouldn't have had as much of a problem with crooks as he seemed to have. I also liked the theme song.
Early 1984...it debuted and ran along with another Larson-produced series, the Love Boat-styled spy series, Masquerade. They both lasted about 12 weeks.
I knew it looked familiar! Thanks. Also that music, sounds like something at the beginning of a movie, about how to be quiet, take your trash out, etc. (Being from Milwaukee, WI it might just be a midwest thing, however).
Thanks 4 sharing ur feelings dude. It's a wonder you see! We both enjoyed the show in the same time line, same settings but from 2 different countries... from 2 different contitent!
That's a poster of Heather Thomas of "THE FALL GUY" at :43, 'pckid', which was producer Glen Larson's other series on ABC at the time. "AUTOMAN" lasted just 13 episodes in early 1983, while "THE FALL GUY" ran for five seasons, ending in 1986.
reality shows should be outlawed now, these were the real shows that hooked you, cheesy as they might seem now, they still hold a dear place in our hearts and no show now can hold a candle to these
So glad I've found this vid. I've had a memory of this from when i was about 7 years old, and no-one I know has the faintest idea what i'm talking about when i try to describe it!
Cool, Man this is so cool, I watched it when I was a kid and forgot the name of it but I always remembered the magic fx and the car. Thanks for posting the video.
everything from the music to the characters was great. I remember watching this show about 12 years ago (whn I was seven) with my sis right before 'manimal'... today nobody else seems to remember this fantastic show. I really regret they didn't make more episodes. anyway the pilot episode and the last unaired episode are at google video
Bad special effects have become sentient and walk freely! Imagine if this were real and he was still around, looking all 80's in 2011, retired and slowly loosing his glow.
This showed only last a year at most i think and it was on ABC if I remember correctly. I do remember seeing the show and it is possible to buy the complete series on DVD
Yep,Tron arrived in 1982.Back then a though of a supercomputer with its own world domination idea was odd in the minds of the moviegoers. Not to mention living in a virtual computerworld was years ahead of the Matrix.Automan?Remember it vaguely.Just a small kid back then.
@healgime1980 y ademas condor, animal, telematch, profesion peligro, thundercats, jose miel, el tesoro del saber.... nostalgia nostalgia. que buena epoca la de los 80s en Colombia amigo o amiga...
Exactly. Like it is possible to design a simulation of a car that turns without inertia (it would be useless, but it's still POSSIBLE), in the same way he could create a virtual car that turns without inertia.
God I miss this show so much it was used to be the best sci-fi adventure tv show ever back in the 80's.Long Live the 80's
I loved AUTOMAN. It was my favourite show along with the A-TEAM and KNIGHT RIDER.
Thanks for bringing back some good memories.
:)
During it's on the air, I was a 8-year-old. Used to have my timely dinner and watch this show. My brain can still recall the intro. It's so evoking. Makes me a stress free 8 year old again.

Yes, they certainly did broadcast this show in Australia. I used to watch it back in the mid 80s. If I recall, Street Hawk, another show I used to watch, was around close to the same time period.
he would still shine brighter than any of the shows we got today after all the 80's shows was made to be fun more action less talking :)

I don't remember very well this serie, but it was one of my favorites. The car was very futurist XD

The same for me. When i talk about this show, nobody remember this! o__O
I was a kid when this was on the French TV (title "Automan" also ^^).
Wowwww...I SO remember this show, it was awesome!
I used to watch the few episodes of this show when it was on. I liked em for some reason . Its funny to see them now. Remember Street Hawk?
i loved how he'd drive his car around corners really tight, so the other cop kept smacking his face against the window. great stuff.
I knew it looked familiar! Thanks. Also that music, sounds like something at the beginning of a movie, about how to be quiet, take your trash out, etc. (Being from Milwaukee, WI it might just be a midwest thing, however).
Ha! Cant believe that! Same here in Italy, man! I was 7-8 years old and watched it on an italian channel at dinnertime! :)
I nearly forgot about this and clicked on it by chance. God damn I loved it so much.
frazzlegooner, Automan was shown here in the UK on BBC1 in the 80's. I remember watching it and wishing I had my own cursor.
Hey Lak, I cracked up every time Automan took a corner at 100mph, pushing his unfortunate passenger up against the window. Cracked up.
The old tv shows were the best shows simply
this is probably the only case of a sidekick being more popular than the main hero in Superhero history.
OMFG does this bring back memories. Thanks for the up!
Thanks 4 sharing ur feelings dude. It's a wonder you see! We both enjoyed the show in the same time line, same settings but from 2 different countries... from 2 different contitent!
I often make references about Automan and his can turning without inertia but most people dont believe this show ever existed.
i loved this show also remember street hawk, manimal and well all remember knight rider

He glowed brighter than Rudolph's red nose, and yet it was his right-angle turns that were his most talked-about feature.
this is the show that wanted me to whip 90 degree turns if i would ever get my license
I almost forgot about this show! Awesome!!
I love how the car would always make a 90 degree turn. A total nod to TRON!
This was one of the best shows back then.
"When I fall in loooooove
It will be foreveeer"
uta una de las mejores series de cuando niño, lamentablemente nunca se le hizo justicia, y hoy solo sus fans la recuerdan
everything from the music to the characters was great. The best shows on tv always get cancelled and then they never come out on dvd.

My friend was the associate producer on this show, strangely enough he never worked again.

mitica serie, ora aggiungo il video tra i preferiti
grande automan ed il mitico cursore XD
Automan - what a hunk! *le sigh*
Many kids fell off their bycicles for trying to trying to turn like Automan...
Man... That car turning like that has to be hard on the neck.
Exactly. Like it is possible to design a simulation of a car that turns without inertia (it would be useless, but it's still POSSIBLE), in the same way he could create a virtual car that turns without inertia.
Cursor also created Automan's various modes of Transportation, like the Autocar, for example
This was on Thursday nights, I remember that for some reason.
I got Chuck Wagner's autograph as a kid at the Carl Casper auto show. Automan autograph at the auto show. Facepalm.
good quality, thanks for uploading
I just got these off some site!!! All episodes... talk about going back in time.
