Ahh I remember staying up till like 1 am to watch this. One Helluva game, chills ran down my spine hearing that crowd so loud after they won. ROCKCHALK❗️
Greatest college basketball game of all time. Name something better. Number 1s in both polls. Multiple overtimes. Only way it could’ve been better would’ve been neutral court.
If it were for the National Title, it would be the best game. The 1957 KU/UNC 3OT game was called "The greatest ever played" for a LONG time. I am glad KU avenged that team in 2022. Most especiialy, WIlt Chamberlain (that haunted him forever, he even said how much he thought he let everyone down in his 1998 Jersey Retirement speech!).
@@BlueshirtFan4Ever I still get flashbacks of Michael Lee's three get blocked by Hakim Warrick in 2003. : ( Boeheim coached for like 40 seasons at Syracuse didn't he? That was Roy Williams coaching against Jim Boeheim, neither had won a title yet despite coaching in many Final Fours/Title Games. I was so sure KU was gonna win that game! lol. The problem was, I think, we just had so little depth, tired legs. Ah, I can make excuses all day. But Gerry McNamara destroyed us, Carmelo did his thing, and Warrick blocked the shot. That was a really good game!
KU vs #1 OU in 1988 in the NCAA Title. #1 (One Poll) KU vs. OU (#1 In Another) 2016. The original BIG 8 member OKLAHOMA. Good luck in the SEC, we need to keep scheduling.
I've mellowed out on my perspective on this game, but I was super pissed that this game even went to overtime in the first place. This team was one of the last teams for KU that I've been super invested in. Perry Ellis is maybe my all-time favorite for KU, and that was his last year. Though Mason and Graham definitely kept my interest for a few more years. Not really any players I've been super interested in watching ever since... Edit: I wrote that before the play to end the first half ....... Now I'm super pissed again. I got nothin against Buddy Hield ... He seems like a really cool guy ... But to get the refs in your pocket like that? Fkn bull ........ Edit 2: ................... both halves .... B. S. phantom fouls on Mason Also .. Over-the-back is such a BS foul anyway. I mean, what?????? So basically bigs get all the fouls called on them when they try to defend ... bigs get all the fouls called on them if 2 players collide ... and bigs get called for ............ being .... taller than someone else (over-the-back)??? What the actual F?
It's crazy these days with the transfer portal...it makes it SO hard to get invested in player development, because 25% want to go get starting jobs somewhere else! We've even seen starters leave. But man, I was really proud to see the 2022 team win it. A lot of guys on that team were seniors like McCormack, Agbaji. Wilson and Braun were Juniors. We were lucky to have Remy Martin as a transfer get hot in the tourney! This year our bench is just so thin. But I am really getting to love KJ Adams, he's having a great junior year, and Dajaun Harris.
I still think that they should name National Champions from last season. I mean not only would it bring a sense of for closure for everyone (the coaches, the players and the fans) to a season that didn't have really any closure. At least that way the games that were played would have meaning. Kansas and Baylor swapping wins would mean more. Kansas beating Dayton in a great game would mean more. Duke and Kentucky getting beat by unranked teams at home would mean more. We had the Madness, it just didn't all happen in March. Or if the NCAA says that the season didn't finish then they should've granted a year of extra eligibility for the players that wanted it, but they didn't do that. They didn't grant the extra year of eligibility, so to me that says that the NCAA is saying that a season was played. Well if a season was played, name a champion based on the season that was played.
Think about how many great leaders we had on that team. Mason/Graham/Selden/Traylor...Lucas! That damn Villanova loss! This team was one for the books! We were definitely one of the best three teams (KU, UNC, NOVA). Villanova did crush UNC's heart with the "shot," so it's not all bad!
Best regular season game of the decade
Absolutely!

This is why I’m a Jayhawk fan, I was probably 10 years old or so and it is still the best basketball game I’ve ever watched

This game never gets old. One of the greatest games in the history of NCAA Basketball!!

Respectfully, I completely disagree. The fact that it was played in Allen Fieldhouse and that crowd made the game way better

As a Syracuse fan...
This was an incredible game by both teams. I wished they played another 3OTs, LOL...
like that famous Cuse/UConn 6OT game. I've NEVER seen anything like that!
23Erik Wall Did anyone ask?
In 1964,in North Carolina, a high school basketball game went to 7OT before a score was decided. That's crazy.
@@twoquickii1330Funny thing is, I was at that game and I never heard MSG go so insane after a classic game back in '09.

Dickie V still calls this the greatest game he ever called.
Frank Mason made back to back great defensive plays on Buddy Hield to end the game.
no way i’ll ever see a better basketball game than this
Greatest game in all of regular season College Basketball.

Not to mention Mason got hit in the face before the 'over the back' anyway.
Can we all agree that 38:12 was one of the worst calls ever made in college basketball?
I was in the third row from the top that night, and I could clearly see there was no contact. Complete phantom call
This was a classic Monday night game.
Can't watch KU win the tournament this year. I guess I'll have to watch the past games.
