  • Recorded at Melbourne's Bombay Rock on the 27th of April, 1979. Available on the Live Tapes Vol. 2 album. These two Chisel greats are bridged together by an ingenious key change by Don, leading into a blues intro and building the tension before a killer freeform rendition of One Long Day.
Definitely pick up the album if you haven't already, my favourite Chisel release so far. The vocals and guitar sound blisteringly raw like classic Chisel, the quality of the recording is superb for a 1979 radio broadcast.

Phill Small's playing is flawless. One of the most underated bass players in our time.

Huge fan of Chisel and Mossie even more so.. I have never heard this version... mind you, I was 11 at the time and didn't start learning guitar for another year... Khe sahn was the hit from this album... but far from the best track... every track on that album was priceless...

I was at this concert at the Bombay in Brunswick Melbourne and I’m so glad this was recorded for posterity. If I remember I think it was Eon FM which became triple M broadcast this as well on radio.I thought the Bombay had some great music even if it was a bit of a dive as far as venues go

John Donnellan Do you remember whether Jimmy played the second guitar on Shipping Steel? Also, who were the ‘special guests’?

Benjamin Barnes long time ago mate I am 59 now and I have only seen Chisel 3 times live, this gig in the late 70’s a gig they played at the Palais which was fantastic and the last time a few years back at hanging rock all in Victoria. They were peaking here and at the Palais before the strain took its toll on Jimmys vocals.Equal to any of the other overseas acts i saw with a sizeable catalogue of songs to call on .

yeh ...was a bit of a dive ..sounded exotic tho ! lol ....i believe its back and running ? RE: chisel ...one of the unique things about chisel ....was the toughness and grit ....but also the vulnerability ....they never just knocked you on the head all the time ....like a street brawler and a boxer.....they set you up ...and ....well , anyway ....chisel had some real delicacy , class....and then WHAM !!! .....what a band ....still an influence on me all these years ....nothing like sitting down to a few cold ones at 16 yrs old - the day swingshift came out - and thinking ...wow , its got it ALL .

You are right about the Bombay Rovk being a dive but that was the beauty of the OZ rock scene from late 70's to early 90's. The venues were dives but were always packed to the rafters

that is why i have always said that Mossy n Jimmy are a like a velvet sledgehammer Mossy will suck you in with his velvety bluesy voice then Jimmy will come in and smack you over the head with that powerful sledgehammer voice of his voice
