The 2021 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy is a Genesis-Like Luxury 3-Row SUV

  • After only 2 years on the market, the #HyundaiPalisade continues to be one of the top picks for families looking for a large 3-row family SUV. For 2021, #Hyundai has made it even more appealing with the range topping #PalisadeCalligraphy. Appearing almost Genesis-like on the inside, the new #HyundaiPalisadeCalligraphy has enough supple leather and tech features to make buyers think they bought a luxury brand at a far more affordable price.

‘21 Palisade Calligraphy owner here. The interior is the reason I bought this. The quality, tech and space is amazing! I agree that it’s not very sporty feeling(had a CX-9 before) but I didn’t buy it to be a sports car. After 4 months of ownership I still love it. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a 7 seater SUV.

Just picked up my 21 Calligraphy 2 weeks ago. I too also had a CX-9 for 3 years prior. I have to say I was impressed with the Palisades handling compared to the CX-9. I really don't see that much of a downgrade honestly.

We’ve had our calligraphy since April and it’s been an amazing year with it so far. Absolutely my dream car and I would choose it a million times over, and that’s as a mom with 2 small kiddos. The interior beats the telluride always. The grill, wheels and infinity led’s (all special to the calligraphy) are so unique and stand out among the crowd. We get stopped often with people telling us how beautiful it is and I still “ooh and ah” when she’s freshly cleaned and buffed. Ours is black on black and truly feels luxurious like a g-wagon or something of that level. Love, love, love

2020 Palisade Limited owner here. I still think the Palisade looks sleeker and much more refined than the Teluride. I like the space afforded by the push-button transmission selector. The center stack display is much more integrated with the dash. And the no-dance automatic lift-gate is great. No regrets at all in the purchase at all.

In comparisons between the Palisade and the Telluride it's important to keep in mind that the Palisade is built in Korea and aimed at a variety of international markets where its primary competition comes from 3 row European SUVs. Vehicles from Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, and Volvo. The Telluride, on the other hand, is built in Georgia and designed almost exclusively for the North American market (It's not even sold in Korea) where its competition includes rivals like the Ford Explorer, the Toyota Highlander, the Chevy Traverse, the Honda Pilot, the VW Atlas, and the Dodge Durango. Vehicles that aren't even offered in markets outside North America or whose sales in Asia, Europe, and other national markets are minuscule.
Those differences help explain the fact that despite their shared components and features the Palisade has leaned since its introduction toward a more near "luxury" image while the Telluride is aimed at a more "rugged", more "masculine" look and feel that Americans find so appealing in mainstream 3 row SUVs. It also helps explain the existence of the new Calligraphy top trim of the Palisade -- a doubling down on the "budget luxury" features and feel of the vehicle. The US/Canada market is important for the Palisade, of course, but its broader purpose is to offer "budget luxury" in markets where its main rivals are far more expensive than the Palisade. In contrast, the newest version of the Telluride, SX/PP "Nightfall Edition", doubles down on its already "masculine" look and feel. The result are top trims of each vehicle with an MSRP (though not a transaction price) that barely falls below the $50K bar.
When they were introduced the Telluride and Palisade hit the 3 row midsize SUV market like an earthquake. In the couple of years since competitors have adjusted their offerings and reduced the MSRP of their top models (Lookin' at you, Explorer) to reduce the Korean brands' advantages but so far no other vehicles are clearly superior in features, much less in terms of value.

The new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder should give the Telluride and Palisade a run for their money. It includes some features typically found only on luxury brands like: power tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a separate power lift gate button that will both close the lift gate and lock the vehicle. It’s digital cluster display is also much more configurable than the Hyundai. It can also accommodate 4 ft wide building materials in the cargo area. Sadly though, it offers only 4-way power passenger seat (whereas Hyundai offers 8-way), and no driver 4-way power lumbar or extendible thigh cushion.
In the end, Palisade offers more features for the money. Expect the Pathfinder to be discounted though.

I realize my vehicle doesn’t compare, but for $33,775 I am seeing I have value because this $49,000 Palisade Calligraphy doesn’t have power folding side mirrors. It has other things though. And it’s not a deal breaker on the mirrors. This is a very nice offering. I think I would go for this over the new Pathfinder. You ? @@2004cyrus The CX-5 is an attractive package. And especially important to Mazda as it's one of their few models whose sales aren't dismal. Purchased a 2022 Palisade Calligraphy AWD: but there are some areas for improvement: add power folding exterior side mirrors, add sunglass holder in interior and add illumination for the overhead light buttons and those rims on calligraphy trim are a bit 'loud', design something more classy; and last but not least, consider adding hybrid powertrain as is offered on many other Hyundai products.

Looked at a Telluride last month…analog speedometer in 2021? Also, interior felt cheap..especially the leather. It was $42k and the dealer wanted $54K (including all the add-ons they were making a mandatory purchase due to the demand) Screw that. I got a Palisade through a family hookup. Fully loaded AWD Calligraphy for 50K. Very excited.
