    ECHO "wish you talked us through what you were doing" ...as all my favorite tutorials do! It's so hard to figure out which color you're choosing to put in etc. by just looking. And some of your techniques are hard to hone in on without stopping and starting over and over. I do love what you do and your overall approach to painting, thank you.

      Thank you for your feedback! As I’ve continued to film and edit more and more videos over the years I’ve definitely developed a better understanding of what is more helpful from the viewers standpoint! Been thinking about refilming a new version of this slower (and with more painting experience!) stay tuned!

      Hi Colleen! Thanks for your feedback, I am more than happy to explain and share what I did. Though sometimes in a timelapse it's a bit difficult to get the right points across. Though I will try in future videos. I prefer to be able to explain the process more in detail and in a way that builds up to creating something like this rather than a quick overview (like I do in my painting community) because I think it is more clear and more helpful! Besides that, I've had people tell me that either I'm too chatty or they would rather have just music playing here on YT. :) I guess you can't make everyone happy.
      By the way, I usually list all the colors and supplies in my video descriptions. For this one I had actually listed the colors based on subject (sky, ocean, sand) - so you can find all of those there!

    We’re you using a spray bottle filled with water? What does the spray bottle do?

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes at one point I did use a spray bottle! I found that it helps create random water “splatter” or spray that lends itself to help add texture to the crashing waves! Something I was testing and would like to try out more - a fun experiment!

    What did you have taped to the back of the painting?

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Cheyene! Oh, there's nothing taped to the back. I'm painting on a block of watercolor paper (basically a pad of paper), and all I did was place masking tape around the border to create a clean edge! Hope that makes sense - thanks for asking.

    Beautiful but I wish you talked us through the steps and what colours you used. Also that it was a bit slower more like a true tutorial unfortunately I found that it’s to fast for me to follow you if I was painting along

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to enjoy "real-time" tutorials as well, which I (mostly) reserve for my watercolor painting community since in the real-time videos I often reference related exercises that we've done together and wouldn't make much sense here :) If you are looking for the specific colors I used, I put them inside the description underneath the video - I hope that helps!

      Yeah, it's hard to see light pencil on video - there isn't too much there though! Just a light sketch

  • @katepanthera7265
    @katepanthera7265 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like the watercolor videos on YT, but hate it when they're done so fast. Nothing against this post personally, just felt the need to vent. So much of learning watercolor is seeing the brushstrokes of the artist, and this high-speed type of presentation isn't helping me to see those unless I slow it way down.
    Anyway, really do love this picture, and I do actually thank you for your presentation.

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kate! I can understand your dislike of the fast time-lapses and thank you for clarifying that this wasn't personal (and that you just needed to vent). Some people have told me they prefer the timelapses (I suppose because the real-time painting can be quite long!) It just goes to show that everyone 'learns' a bit differently. I personally enjoy seeing the brushstrokes as well - which tells me that you have a very observant and curious mind. I'll definitely keep this mind for future videos.

    • @yahoog555yahoog4
      @yahoog555yahoog4 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      play the video .25x speed, at max quality, you can see everything you need to see and the small details and how the artist hesitate to make a judgement for next step and the decision etc! ENjoy

  • @raysa2402

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  ปีที่แล้ว

      It IS very fast! My early TH-cam editing days I'm afraid. I'm planning to do another painting of this again, just for fun - and if I do I'll post it slower this time ;)

  • @louisweiss710

    I think your work is fantastic, but how is this a tutorial? You're just painting and not telling people how you do things.

    • @SusanChiang
      @SusanChiang  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re right, it’s definitely not a tutorial. I’m not taking you through the steps, just showing you (visually) the process. I don’t believe that I mentioned/wrote it was a “tutorial” - but if I did, I apologize if that was misleading.
