    It can get super confusing when choosing a big bore kit for your GY6 engine. Not all 61mm kits are drop in. Some call a 61mm big bore kit a 171 while other cheat and call it a 172c and some even under estimate the kit calling it a 170cc. Bottom line our kit is a drop in gy6 big bore kit. Not all on the market are! We have 15 years of experience building these GY6 engines. Don’t fall for a cheaper kit that Joe Shmoe is selling just to make a buck. This is our passion and you have our support. All of our big bore kits have the piston ring end gaps measured and installed on the piston. With the 61mm piston installed into the drop in cylinder. It doesn’t get any easier to install. Follow our step by step install video.

    Congratulations on your product line. It would have been nice to see some data on the performance of these big bores.
    Not sure if your claim to having the piston assembled inside the cylinder is a benefit when it looks like it needs to be removed in order to install the piston pin to the crankshaft.
    If that is the case, why not scalp a radius relieve into the piston sleeve, allowing the pin to slide straight into the piston and crankshaft? Cheers.

      I’ll have dyno data soon. As for as the piston pin. It can be installed without removing the piston from the cylinder. Simply slid the piston down far enough to slid the piston pin in and out. I appreciate the support

    I am about to buy it. Still confused if I want cast or forged. If I'll go with cast, how much of performance will be lost vs forged? If I'll go with forged, how much life expectancy will I lose vs cast? Also, on one item on your website it says to go with forged for long life, this is directly opposite what you claim in another video. Thus, I am 100% confused what I want.

    • @RollingWrench
      @RollingWrench  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends how you ride it. Forged will last longer if you abuse it / ride hard and aggressively. Cast will not last as long, it’s not as strong. On the other hand , cast will last longer if you are just a cruiser. Forged is for weekend rips! Cast is for everyday riding. I personally choose forged.

    Very nice educational information. I'm new in the community of scooters and i"m seeking advice and I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. I've recently acquire a brand new Chinese scooter with the following engine code: BN161QMK-A and these scooters are marketed as 200 cc but according to the specs on the label it is actually 169cc. Is there room for upgrading piston without boring the case? if so, how big can I go? Any recommendations for improving speed and performance without going on hardcore modding?

      Holy hell, I thought i was the only one. I'm running a gy6 in a 96 ezgo txt. I just installed this 172 big bore kit, (28mm carb, 28mm big valve head, 61mm forged piston) i bought the kit from rolling wrench mainly for the convenience of having the piston gapped and pre-installed. I've done a ton of gy6 builds(used to work at a scooter/motorcycle shop) it's a nice kit(the ports on the head were a little rough, I went ahead and polished them out) but the kit went in without issue(my motor is a qmj157)
      Curious how you mounted your motor. On mine i cut the back half of the cvt case off and welded on a thick aluminum plate. Then drilled it out to mount on the rear differential where the electric motor originally mounted. It's a pretty solid setup, been running this cart for years now. It's cool to know I'm not the only one that dropped a little scooter motor into a golf cart.
      It performs surprisingly well with light roller weights and a heavy contra spring. Enough low end power to get up hills with 4 people on the cart. And enough top end to hit 40mph(although it's difficult to steer above 20-25mph)
      I ordered an all-sport long travel kit, so hopefully that will allow it to steer better at higher speeds. Still waiting on the kit to arrive(they have a 2 month lead time)

    The ONLY time that a flat top Piston lowers compression is when you go from a domed high compression piston, which none of these engines come with

    • @RollingWrench
      @RollingWrench  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is what I am referring to. Most 171cc big bore kits are domed pistons. Ours is flat top. Flat top has lower compression than domed. I’m glad I cleared that up

    • @lesheath6216
      @lesheath6216 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RollingWrench why would you want lower compression pistons? That kind of defeats the purpose of the bigbore kit. More compression=more power

    • @RollingWrench
      @RollingWrench  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lesheath6216 GOOD QUESTION:-)
      Let me give you the 101:
      Domed piston: Raise the acceleration via the higher compression, but lower RPM capability = lower top speed
      Flat top piston: lower compression ( then a domed piston, but higher compression then stock) but they rev higher with its higher rpm capabilities = higher top speed.
      Our ProBld performance cam shaft that is made for low to mid range power, gives you that lost low end torque back that a you would have gained from a domed piston.
      In short, by doing a flat top piston with a thin base gasket (to raise compression) and our ProBld camshaft is the best combo possible. We have done a lot of testing on this. Also, because domed pistons raise the compression, they tend to kill those stock crank shaft bearings. The only time we recommend a domed piston is when you are in a place with high altitude such as Colorado. We loose compressed up here. A domed piston will match what sea level elevations compression is, keeping it just as reliable as if you had a flat top piston at sea level. We are looking for the most performance with reliability in mind. If you want to learn more about big bore kits here is a link:
