This is a very interesting topic and made me reflect about everything that I had experienced to see what type of player I am. I had various moments of my 10 years of playing where I had experienced all the 3 basic styles each, definitely had moments where I had to analyze the gamestate and decide the best comeback, also moments where I my instinct kicking in the most risky plays and also having enough knowledge to play against certain matchups for the deck I am playing. Reflecting about the experiences I had, I can say for sure that I consider myself lazy testing against every matchup to gain experience and know what to expect in the future when I feel that is one of the three styles I have most potential but not investing enough time into it. I see myself playing more of a Charisma style because of the feeling and trust I have with my instincts that lead me to more risky plays and sometimes find a very limited ceiling when playing linear decks like Youthberk for me, I feel the urge to do more but I can't see myself getting out of a fixed and linear playstyle that doesn't guarantee that I can win in most of situations. With everything in mind I feel like that I am a Charisma type player with a strong potential of Wisdom and very weak Inteligence.
This was a great video and really helped self reflecting my experiences to become a better understanding player.
Fellow charisma fighters, where you at

THIS. VIDEO. IS. AMAZING!!!!! Seriously! This is such a creative idea that I have never seen anyone think of, or have thought of myself, before! Y'know, this could totally help lead into a Vanguard-based TTRPG game. I am part of a Discord server that is a Cardfight! Vanguard roleplay that is primarily based around creative storytelling and character interaction. However, your ideas for more detailed character traits could lead to an interesting stat system that could possibly include various player skills that could help build upon the groundwork of your ideas expressed in this video. Overall, I absolutely love and adore both your ideas for character traits among cardfighters and the amazing potential that they have to be built upon. Thank you so much man! I would love to see more of this kind of content in the future!
Awesome, I'm super glad to hear that! Utilizing these for character stats is so fascinating and can definitely work, lemme know how that pans out I'd love to hear about it!
this is a really nice and interesting way to describe playstyles
we don't talk about the dexterity and strength players
Lmao I got some funny images pop into my mind when you wrote that 🤣
When i first start vanguard which was around 3 years ago, i be playing charisma style, just attacking with the goal of getting opponent 6 damage, betting on drive and damage check luck, without considering what is the opponent playstyle and resource they need to do certain skills.
As i progress at my own pace in this TCG, I slowly incline towards being a wisedom player, my playstyle is favourable towards stalling, and defensive setup towards early aggression( decks like Direful dolls, Siana Quintuplets). During my turn 3 then i switch gears into identify which attack could get block by the opponent, should i be the aggressive one and just attack the vanguard or should I, reduce opponent resources by attacking their rearguards.
There are also sometimes i play gung ho, for i just want to enjoy the games and there some moments i kinda can sense whether my drive check can gets triggers or not (30% accuracy)
I also want to mention that I would consider myself a Counter Fighter(since i rarely join tournaments). I play vanguard for the sake of having a blast (there are some matches i had where my excitement was overcharged due to some matches has the anime vibe and outcome) there were some game where I lose with my final damage is a persona yet it was fun because the game twist and turn to makes the cards arranged to the scenes like in the anime.
I also a self proclaimed craftsman due to i made my own vanguard deck out of wanting to experiment
Ah I see! Seems that as you developed fight experience, you developed more towards the wisdom method. The defensive deck proclivity is also pretty wisdom-esque, as that style of fighting is generally more passive while waiting for the right time to push.
Counter Fighter ey? Pretty cool!
From Unga bunga to i ungo therfore i bunga
Honestly so glad I found your channel, your content feels so fresh and interesting. Hope you keep going with it.
@@BMB3586 aw tysm!
Funny that you decided to bring this idea into a video! Very well put together, and the idea really seems to be resonating with people
You bet, super glad to see it!
I'd say I'm a Wisdom fighter, with a secondary Intelligence and only slight bit on the Charisma. While I mostly do a bit research for deck construction and combo plays, I also realize that in fights you don't always get your pieces, so most times I have to adapt to the situation and just use what I got.
My slight charisma will come out in times where if I were to realize early on that my strategy is bunk, so I just hammer down on the luck, but that's a rarity.
Ah fair, so you're generally risk-adverse when you can help it, definitely can relate there 😂
It'd be interesting to see how nations play into that triangle too tbh. Because there are decks and nations that enable all 3 playstyles. Stoichea feels like they play around all 3 at once due to how they have the most diverse pool of allowing you to play differently and adapt with tech cards (For some reason they are the nation with a lot of splashability in terms of generics from Dreamblade to Bursting Justice or even tokens.).
Charisma fighter since i play only whit budget decks i constantly gambling my chances and taking risks, not taking to much care about my opponent deck, even though sometimes i do take the safe route when i feel its necessary !
nice!
I'm definitely a wisdom fighter overall.
The 3 styles is an interesting concept, though i see it as different aspects of a fight.
Intelligence - deck building, optimise winning image, covering weakness, knowledge of decks.
Wisdom - reading the broad/hand, damage denial, managing resources.
Charisma - that spice card you had comes into play, "all effects to vanguard", FINAL TURN.
That's a good way of looking at it, definitely fits within the scope of what was laid in out the vid. Very nice!
@@godsman00definitely a wisdom fighter but can go charisma Final turn guy😂
@@geraldushimawan8269bet bet 😂
@@godsman00 believe me when we YOLO, all bets are off
players who use charisma wisdom and intelligence have will have very well balanced strategy depending on the situation you are in
I'd say I'm a mesh of all 3 but lean more towards wisdom and charisma as a close second. I remember when watching the anime and getting some decks that I wanted to focus on decks like OTT to kinda manipulate things for my deck and apply a bit of fear factor into my opponent as set cards a certain way will either force them to be too cautious or taking a gamble of not guarding.
Though Pale moon sealed my kind of play style of high to mid risk with mid to high reward depending on what I play. Though given how much personality pale moon had and when I found Harri eventually. Def just solidified my ability to go with the flow of the game and everything that goes on.
Sad Dark states didnt really have anything for me once overdress came around but Rowa kinda took that spot as the play style to my liking compared to everything at the time and even now.
Ah interesting, so your style was sort of grafted from the decks you gravitated towards.
What an awesome video dude, really enjoyed this one
@@dred_dreamr glad to hear it! Also nice silver there 😁
I'm somewhat new to vanguard (only really started getting into it with Divinez, and even then still very casually), so I can't say for sure which type I am, but I would have to say a mix of charisma and wisdom. I try to use past strategies and matchup outcomes to determine my plays, but who doesn't love letting the drive determine the game.
That's solid for sure! Those 2 in combination make for sublimely fluid gameplay if you can get into the zone.
If I were to pick, initially I was a Charisma fighter playing with that style of taking huge gambles but as time went on I eventually ended up picking up tricks from the other two with how I tend to look for decks that are more "toolboxy" in nature. My current best deck is definitely Magnolia and I have Rotovisor and Stoierhaja in the back whenever I feel like switching things up.
I exemplify the Intellect aspect in terms of widening my cardpool and paying attention to cards that I can expect and counter with also noting how the meta plays out and I tend to check on what can I exactly do with my current cardpool.
While for Intelligence is for during card fights especially with my decks being all about looking out for your best play pattern with what you can anticipate and what's currently your best moves.
My favorite example of picking up all 3 is how I tend to play with Magnolia and how I build my deck around what I can expect to match up with. Like how I use certain order cards like Dream Blade and ability gaining orders or surprise people with an early Winnsapooh rush while also keeping cards that allow me to put a board with Banaspati.
I'd say I'm All 3 mixed with Strength. My decks have a heavy focus on agression, calculating and informed bets. But I also have a tendency to us weird combos that most people wont think of to pull the very most out of my cards. A perfect example of this would be my Quad Drive Gramgrace deck. Outside of the Ride deck, it has NO grade 2s. The main rideline leading up to Gramgrace being Blaster Dark for its early Twin Drive. Then by combining a high amount of Grade 3s with Form up O chosen Knights Order Card and the support of Gramgrace support cards I'm able to push Gramgrace's power up and give it Quad Drive. With the right grade 1 in hand to Discard I can even give it a unit with boost AFTER getting the back row swing.
Awesome video! I'd say I'm more of a Wisdom fighter overall, but I mix in the playstyles of the other two as well pending on how things go. I do research into the decks I'm expecting to play against at my locals and will change not just some of my cards, but also my entire play strategy if it means helping counter them and surprise my opponents to throw them off their game so I can make a better end game as I tend to run predictable decks such as Blangdmire where the play strategies are usually the same each time.
Ah ic ic, seems you might pivot towards a hybrid of Intelligence and Wisdom gameplay, that's great!
I do appreciate all work you do
Ty!
I personally believe that most fighter (70-80%) are mix of all three, just in different ratio, all players rely on their knowledge of the match up to know when to do what, but at the same time, if given the opportunity, they will study and plan their match ahead of time, and the way vanguard is almost every fighter is a charisma fighter given the circumstances, these traits not only work together but actually benefit the fighters, wisdom lets you know how to plan ahead thus helping intelligence, intelligence and let you know when it’s okay to to take those risks thus allowing your charisma to shine, and the more risks to take, the more different type of experience you will get this helping you build wisdom
It’s just which ratio do we have these trait is what define our personality, me as a wisdom fighter still prefer to research my opponent ahead of time, and plan my matches, but am also prone to take low to even high risks given the situation, just something to add to your video
I think I'm in the Charisma+Intelligence type.
I mostly rely on my luck, draws and drive checks in getting the cards I need. Whenever I play with my friends I say lines like
"I like those odds" (when guarding for one to pass)
"I feel like an overtrigger is coming so I should perfect guard" (in which actually did happen lmao)
"I need a set order next turn or else I'm cooked" (drive checks a set order and yes I play silhouette)
Playing silhouette: Sacrifice persona ride copy for turn 4 to keep armed arms in hand to call for turn 2 for rush (because I can always draw/check another one in the next rounds 😌......probably)
As for the latter, I use and build cards to solely counter certain opponents. Like a deck I use online to drain the power of another but is bad against a retiring deck so I put more cards that bring back board but still slightly maintain its core strength and it works
@@j19l8r4 yup that checks out, good stuff!
I’m most likely a mix of wisdom and charisma with a larger portion being charisma.
I say this for two reasons:
A. I use decks where I don’t use the main cards needed due to the price of said cards(example being I use almajestar but don’t use bifrons).
B. My trigger luck in games is so sickening that my friends call me out on it every game we play(example once when using arkhite every damage I got throughout the entire game was a trigger and I was still hitting triggers in my drive checks and got the over trigger at the best possible moment for me(this is a common occurrence for me))
Yup that definitely sounds like a CHA/WIS mix lol
I'm a mix of charisma and wisdom. I usually rarely use meta staples due to budget, but I try to observe a game state to see if there's a path to victory.
Good stuff
Wisdom and Charisma!
Mostly because I'm too lazy to analyse matchups vs my decks :P
It's also due to me playing fighting games in general, where adaptability on the fly is important, so I learn more from losses than winning. So to me, defeat is not the end, its another step towards victory.
Kinda like Impauldio (even though I didn't play the deck lol)
I definitely am a Wisdom and Charisma highbrid. I try to adapt to opponents, but I also have a tendency to go for big game ending pushes when the mood feels right. I also have a tendency towards risks, but I sadly lack the sheer raw luck most charisma players have.
Super flexible playstyle there, I like it!
I’d probably be a Charisma Fighter because I don’t like to use use a lot of the Meta staples, some by choice some because I straight up don’t have them so I basically have to compensate by going all in on pure determination and luck. Sometimes it works, sometimes I fail spectacularly but no matter what I try to make the fight fun for myself and my opponent.
Heck yeah, Charisma gaming is so fun, especially when it pays off!
I find myself paying attention to damage count & hand size a lot in current Standard, knowing if my Persona Ride can breakthrough or get me long term value is important to my game to game playstyle, I like making sure I stay above or equal damage with my opponent to optimize my potential or hitting heals or denying my opponent the same resource, I also tend to make notes of a matchup prior to important turns and see how my mulligan (i.e. keeping an early 15k shield) can make earlier turns of guarding impactful etc. 1 of my mates in our play group recently built Aequilibra and often I find myself going 1st allowing myself to go right to 5 damage early if I'm aggro'd, but if I'm not aggro'd I like to guard early instead, all in the hope that I can play around the Divineskill effectively
That Aequilibra match up kinda depends on their sources though in my opinion. If they got that multiattacker saved up in their hand then going to 5 quickly might not be wise since we are possibly looking at guarding 4-5 huge heavy swings. Being at 3-4 dmg even when taking it's divine skill might help land a dmg trigger increasing the vg power.
@@ArcaniteMaster But you cannot gain trigger power from the divine skill, so you would have to be at 2-3, which is also fine, matches vary
@@newsnipecat8337 Yah I forgot about the minis trigger power(CHECK THE DMG OT LMAO). Overall in all seriousness, staying at 2-3 would be best yes if it's possible. Totally aware it's difficult with their aggro.
Interesting, it seems you're pretty well developed in the Wisdom method of fighting, a lot of more advance strategies that respond to the specific matchup and gamestate, very nice.
As a shojodoji player, definitely a charisma player. The moment when you have to rebuild your empty field with only your soul, or drawing into all your triggers and checking into nothing, only to have enough to guard a kill turn feels amazing. It's like riding a rollercoaster. You'll never know can win you the game.
@@c12806 ah man that sounds awesome, flying by the seat of your pants and seeing where it leads ya lol
Very much a Charisma/Intelligent mix player. I do my best to observe the situation, and adapt to it, pick off pieces that could be problematic for me, damage deny if I need to, but I’ll also bet on a miracle if I can’t see a way out on surviving a turn, and while it doesn’t always work, it feels so good when it does.
Felt that, it's super gratifying!
@ I literally had some crazy luck during my Sunday locals. I got a sixth damage OT, zero Heals in deck, and won. My opponent was so salty about it.
Im definitely a mix of Charisma + Intelligence. I tamper with my deck multiple times in the game and get the non triggers out my deck or on the bottom of the deck and after that I let my charisma take over to see where it leads me during drive and damage checks
Good stuff, that combo is particularly engaging in the sense that you're always attempting to manipulate fate to your advantage and seeing how it pans out!
I'm not a Vanguard player but I was few years ago a Yu-Gi-Oh player, and I can that I -am- was Intelligent player with some Wisdom playstyle. I was using the Intelligent side during the deckbuild process and complete it with Wisdom elements during my games.
Obviously, sometimes I took Charisma decisions, but it was more like Raika during will+Dress season 1 final, it was often base on statistics and probabilities. For example, looking at my opponent GY and determine with the known cards in his hands that he had very little chances to top deck that specific card next turn, so I should play like that this turn.
@@jo-ri-oh8950 a balanced approach, can definitely get behind that!
I’m been Watching Vanguard for a long time Since The Day’s of Aichi and The Gang but I definitely say for certain I’m a Intelligent + Wisdom type
Solid combination that!
I guess I'm an intelligence fighter. With some Charisma because of hope for defensive triggers early.
I can't remember most of my fights, but I usually deck build and just make sure my winning gameplan is always achieved.
My recent deck is Aelquillibra and I just make sure I have the ability to push at turn 3, then Divine turn 4 with at least 40k power at every swing, while making sure card advantage is on my side with the Order.
Yeah that seems like an intelligence mindset. The basic saying I like to use for it is "Plan your play, then play your plan".
@@godsman00 And being salty when you don't get the 3rd Corino or any Fergosa in Youthberk to get FullBlast full effect. Also, when you hit 0 or 1, maybe 2, in Moon Gate in 2 games straight. Late 3 also.
Edit: Aelquillibra is so consistent for me, that I always do my plan every time, unlike the other 2 decks above.
I know of DnD mostly through osmosis but the scene is almost non existence in my country let alone my area and I just got into the TCG side of VG 3 years ago but even then I just play casually with friends. So I'll just use VG Zero as reference cuz that's the last time I went fully competitive.
I guess in that sense I'm more of a charisma fighter, fully heads on going with your gut hoping for that luck to be on your side. But I also have some wisdom in me as I learn from my mistakes and loses and as the more time I play I was able to read the room and what my opponents might do.
I used to be an intelligent fighter just like a lot of my friends are but to do that I gotta invest A LOT of time and energy which unfortunately I can't do that especially right now lol.
Ayo this is fun. More like this plz🙏🙏
Ah that's a good point as well, Intelligence fighting can be a bit time consuming because of the preplanning and format analysis that goes into it, definitely not something everyone can afford in that sense although still manageable lol.
Glad to hear it, I'll definitely try if inspiration comes knocking!
New Sub here 👋 amazing video!! I'll say I believe I fall under the intelligence fighter but I've been shown to share some of the elements of both Charisma and Wisdom fighters.
@@Emptiness9148 Ah welcome to the channel, thank you!
Intelligence with a dash of the other 2 ey? That's got a very balanced approach to it, very nice!
I'm a mix of the 1st 2 but I'd say I'm mainly a wisdom fighter
I think I had always been a charisma player. Its more fun to bet on the drive checks instead of multi attacks.
I think maybe you can talk about the other 3 stats
Strength: Player prefers to use effects that add crits, drives or insane power boost
Dexterity: players who prefer aggro and forcing opponents into odd guarding patterns
Constitution: Players who prefer to drag out the game with insane value plays leading to the late game
Interesting, perhaps this could be applied to the decks themselves rather than the players 🤔
@godsman00 mayhaps. Video from you soon? :3
I feel this definitely applies to the decks but I love the concept.
Huh… this is a very interesting topic. Never really thought about this kind of stuff. From this I think I see myself as a cross between wisdom and charisma. Though sometimes my gambles are less “this is the best way to win” and more “why the heck not?”
@@zenithinia lol yeah that's about as fair a reason as any
Gotta say charisma and wisdom.
As I don’t build a deck for future scenarios since there’s so many possibilities sounds like a hassle. I’ll see when I get to it. Gotta say lean heavily on charisma though since I just kinda debate what risks are more worth going for rather than seeing what every option on board is better.
I am Definitely a wisdom fighter, it’s an interesting concept with a number of applications
indeed!
@ possibly looking at which concept counters the others
Well done, glad you used dnd as the reference.
Very interesting concept.
Im definitely... a thing.
I just play the play the deck and Go with The Flow.
Guess thats more in line with Wisdom?
I'd say so after thinking on it. Wisdom gameplay is very reactive in nature and lets the flow of the game dictate their plays in a way. It's good for adaptability but the complacency of it can mean throwing games at times which I think we've observed in some of our fights right?
@@godsman00 definitely man. I'm definitely trying to break out of that habit.
I’m 100% a charisma player. I only play Dear Days now but my favorite deck back in the day was Dimensional Robos. Nothing was more fun than relying on a grade 3 drive check 😂
@@matthewbeard8860 Yeboi!
Me personally, i feel like a mix between Wisdom and Charisma fighter. Just depends on the situation in most cases
Understandable
Maybe Wisdom for me? I freely admit that I don’t keep up with Meta strategies and am terrible at remembering to count cards for ratios. I do like learning the ins and outs of my decks, though, and learning to counter what I see happening on the board. Although, I am no where near skilled enough at this game yet to be a very effective wisdom fighter.😅
Ah I see, a very good point! Although I don't know much about your skills and style personally, your analysis does bring up another idea about this concept which is that these styles are also skills in a sense and can be developed in time, so hey if you feel like you're not very proficient in your style, perhaps you can try to pick up some tips from a fellow Wisdom player!
I don't play vanguard but I do play pokemon tcg. My fighting style involves charging up big attacks to do massive attacks and then recycling my energy back to my hands to deal f8nal blows during end game. I'm probably a wis and int fighter. I think.
I guess I'd be a Charisma fighter. I normally do keep in mind decks that I fight an how they function, but I always play full steam ahead keeping in mind how my opponent retaliates. It's why I like to play aggressive decks with removal like Shojodoji which is my main deck currently, cause I can get rid of troublesome rears while going full aggro. I just feel I'm not the type to think to hard otherwise I'll overthink.
It's a fine strategy in of itself to not overthink things! After all, sometimes we're our own worst enemy lol.
I miss thecks like Tsukuyomi, that require to have a good memory.
I can see how i am a wisdom/intelligence and I do have charsima based fighting too. a unique fighting with my style.
As i play alot of very thought prevoking decks like Welstra, Vesisrugr and Levidras
Ah I see, yeah that definitely tracks for Wis/Int. Those decks have very defining overarching strategies that you make off the table, but at the same time also require good Wis to judge where you choose to use your assets and how much at any given time. Very cool!
Where the Mushiking fellas min maxing into Charisma + Dexterity (drive check dependency + deck compression) ?!
Honestly, changing from Mushi to Levidras feels like changing builds from Cha + Dex to Int + Str
With levi, I really can't afford to lose sight of my opponent's intentions, every pg checked, persona into damage, any comeback potential matters in a long game.
While with mushi, it is like I am doing my thing and my opponent theirs, either way, one of us won't get into turn 5. Feels good to not really think outside of turn 4 sometimes
I am definitely a very heavy INT + WIS guy.
I am annoyingly inquisitive about this game and will ask the same questions to a dozen of people in order to maximize the amount of information I can accumulate for a give n deck or matchup. However, perhaps due to my paranoia tendencies, I have a tendency to do WIS traits, ESPECIALLY asking hand sizes at certain points as well trigger counts to ascertain guarding patterns. I am only a CHA guy once in a while if I am pushed into a very unfavourable corner or want to rely a bit more luck that day(i.e. knowing that I cannot live the next turn or having to play around a huge enemy hand.) However, thanks to financial and logistical reasons, I kinda have to be a CHA guy by virtue of having to play suboptimal decks or builds and then letting my piloting skills do more of the work, which tbf I do not know if this is considered WIS or CHA.
So for me INT > WIS = CHA
i like to use charisma intelligence and wisdom and lots of practice playing CARDFIGHT vanguard
The avatar of all elements truly lol
Funny enough I’ve always been a Kai like fighter probably why I gravitate towards his decks. I’m probably more Cha than him though. Taking in information as the game goes on and playing aggressively has always been my style. If I don’t see a way for me to end you that then I’ll cripple your formation so you can’t finish me. However the moment I see a chance I’ll take a charisma based stance and bet it all. After all not losing isn’t the same as winning.
Considering how I play, I feel along the lines of charisma with a touch of wisdom. Though, since I'd rather have an outside perspective and you've seen and fought me on a few occasions, I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
@@definitely-not-you that totally checks out imo!

Definitely an intelligence and wisdom guy. Mostly on intelligence, as I do go through various simulations on my deck to analyze the ways to play and counter various matchups and getting rid of important targets while finding correct ways to attack. But when I lose, I seek various ways to test with my deck and continue to rebuild to how I see it fit

Ah I see! That is definitely a good goal, and it brings into perspective a key fact which is these styles are malleable. That is to say, with effort and study you 100% can change into that style, so go for it!
Idk what kind of fighter I am, the only thing I have on my mind during a game is "BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL"
Based on the styles presented, I see myself in category 4: Mixed.
I often assess the playstyle of the deck I’m up against, but I usually work with what I got with each unpredictable scenario, sometimes using odd tactics in spite of the gameplan my deck requires. So yeah, I feel like I mixed-style player.

@@rrr271003 ah ic ic, a bit on the fence and prone to changing then, that's understandable.

I would like to propose a 4th type, Strength Fighters: Someone who doesn't care about the board state and will try to brute force the game in their favour (it's me, big numbers lots of attacks go brrrrr)
As a Greedon player I probably reek of Charisma with a splash of Wisdom. Almost no intelligence go into my games. Haha
Definitely Wisdom and probably a intelligence mix. Or there are times when I become a charisma mix. Depends on the situation and day.
I like being able to react and adapt to any and all situations the best I can. But I also like having a long-term strategy and with these adaptations, have multiple paths to said strategy. I probably came to this conclusion because I've played Luard since GBT13 and really delved into its toolbox throughout the years in Premium.
But again, there are glimpses of charisma in there. The best example I can remember from this is from a regional during Ripples format. I didn't have much experience with the matchup and only had one half-game I played on that very day to get an idea of how the strat worked. Round 2, I was going second and I had a choice to put the opponent at 4 damage before turn 3. The goal was to force a guard with Odysseus or to hit them to four to threaten a kill turn with Morfessa. Considering the format, it was probably a move that a Ripples player wouldn't normally expect. And even though I ended up losing that game because of end phase draws getting that guy the last G guardian he needed, that big risk play was one that established who was in control of that fight.
Sorry for the rant, but I didn't know how to explain it without giving the story.
@@reihikari5241 thanks for the elaboration, it shows the topic really resonated with you! And ngl it's a very well thought out response, you definitely found a way to strike a balance between the two styles and play to their relative strengths. Right on!
