In this DCS World Simulator video I'm in the JAS39 Gripen fighting the mighty (and beautiful) SU35 Flanker E flown by SHIELD, thanks so much for the help!
This is a BVR (beyond visual range) dogfight while using the most advanced missiles currently out there.

I love playing simulators, I started with Arma 3 and then I saw DCS World. I also enjoy War Thunder , Battlefield , Ghost recon, Squad , Rome total war, Microsoft Flight Simulator and more. I also enjoy World War II games including il-2 In DCS World i found all the jets that i wanted to fly in a simulator the F 16 Viper , FA 18 Hornet , F 15 Eagle , A 10 Warthawg , SU 27 , Mig 29 , P 51 , Spitfire , AH 64 Apeche , Heuy and more... And if you will download MODs the options are endless: F 22 Raptor, SU 57 , A 4 Skyhawk , SR 71 Blackbird , Rafale, Gripen and the list goes on.

That Gripen HUD layout is SO clever!
I would appreciate it if you could call the range at which you and the bandit launch missiles. Gives us a more complete idea of whats going on in BVR. 👍
An Example:
Depends on the missile type, the Fox3's on the JF-17 Thunder (SD-10) has have a count down timer on the HUD that once reaches 0 lets you know when the missile has gone pitball. Really helpful as once it's gone pitball you can go defensive if incoming missiles are detected by the RWR.
Every Fox3 missile is different (And the fighter jets radar's are different) so it's a tricky question to answer.

The Gripen should be equipped with Meteor missiles.
But it is, altogether with IRIS-T instead of Sidewinders. This time LS decided to take a different loadout.
I think GS enjoys testing new things. Let the man have some fun. :)
Gripen can carry an extremely wide assortment of things including stuff made by US, French, European colabs, Israeli, etc.

I for one, enjoy your testing of various things. Gripen is very programmable, carryall platform.
The E version will carry Meteor, IRIS-T, Sidewinder9x (and a few older variants), AMRAAMs, Astra, A-darter, Python 4/5, Derby, ASRAAM, MICA, Skyflash.
Chances are if you're having stock of something made on the Western front you can stick it on a Gripen.

Great video Longshot - I was a litle worried in the first engagement as I have seen GS trying to fight the Su35 before with is hypersonic missiles and I thought you might be waiting too long to defend. However you got your tactics down in the end! Also I will be buying myselfe a Longshot coffee mug and a Stainless Tumbler before Christmas - I need something to drink out of while watching these great videos! Stay safe Sir!

I do have one question, I've noticed in a lot of these videos you're not in afterburner when slinging that first missile? I've always thought you'd want to be going as fast as possible to increase the missile range, so just wondering why you aren't?
Nice job, confusing his situational awareness, by popping up to medium altitude, and then ditching to a ridgeline, oblique to the area he was searching and finding you previously to make his missile launches at BVR range, and when he could not find you, he had to press to that area, and you then could exploit your flanking maneuver! 😎

GS learned the same lesson with those Hypersonic Russian Missiles lol. I didn't jump I knew it was coming lol.
That was nice flying LS, and a hard won fight too. If you have meteor missiles I guess it could at least dissipate the advantage of his Fox3s missile in speed and you could get him on much longer ranges. I guess this will also be the set up of my country's air force (Philippines) if we get the Gripens, we already have I Derby on our arsenal and I doubt if they will sell us their meteor missiles. More power to your channel.
Great job LS. Imagine this was above the sea.. However the same goes for the foe to. A glimpse of coming future about stealth vs el,optical and EW are 1st look and lock. Love that you try new jets/f3. Gripen is a beast at bwr. W or wo meteor.

Hey Longshot! I was wondering how people like you and Growling Sidewinder set up dogfights especially BFM/ Within visual range. Do you have a server that you play on or is it created in the mission editor?
Man, that was stressful to watch! Out ranged and out gunned. But you crept up for two wins out of three.
I get an adrenaline rush just watching this stuff. BVR fights are crazy suspenseful

Why do missiles at times appear to fire straight off the rail, and at other times drop from the rail before firing?
Does it depend on rail the missiles is fired from to prevent the rocket exhaust damaging the aircraft or other missiles?

70% success depends on the pilot I would say.
In BVR combat, I think it is very unlikely that this specific variant of the Gripen C/D will stand any chance against modern versions of the Flankers. I mean, the F-22 has a hard time against it (in DCS, of course)

Is it possible to save your missiles and continuously bait the opponent into using all of their's before finally taking them out when near defenceless?
If you are constantly defending/notching/going cold and being pushed, you will bleed speed/energy doing so, your opponent will stay nose hot closing the distance while not having to defend and bleed speed/energy, you would be killed long before your opponent runs out of missiles.

Hey LongShot, what.exact variant of thr Derby is the JAS-39 Gripn using? Theres quite a big difference between them. Theres 3 variants:
* Derby
* I-Derby
* I-Derby ER
The Derby is a 1990s missile whereas the I-Derby ER is from 2015.

A really cool feature of the Derby family of missiles is their multi-ramge functionability.
long range shot? preserves energy and burn for maximum range. medium range shot? use all the burner quickly to gain speed and hit the target effectively. it is even usefull in ahort ranges when it could use its high trackrate and 180° gimball limit to effectively hit targets, most fox-3s would be jettisoned when the enemy is at less than 5km.

In the first round I wondered because you said he shot a Missile and i do .... i have time. I thought he is r.a. 30 or 40 Kilometers away and his missile has maybe a speed of 4 or 5000 Km/h - man i think you are wrong when you think you have time. But you flew fully relaxed straight on in the direction of the enemy missile. 😃

Is there any way to reduce the Gripen RCS in this? The Gripen is the lowest RCS of any non-stealth plane, but it's RCS is huge in DCS. A Gripen would definitely get a shot off LONG before the SU.

That would probably be Dassault Rafale, not Gripen
@@Koka2609 It is practically impossible to know, but in general it is irrelevant as none of those planes can carry weapons internally. When people talk about "low RCS non-stealth fighter" they are talking about them in clean config. But no 4th gen is going to fly like that. They will all carry external weaponry, fuel tanks, targeting pods etc... that spikes their RCS massively.
Not sure why you didn't defend more aggressively or with more speed lol. You get what you pay for I guess.

The SU35 isn't fast just very generous with his missiles
The reflections/glare on the inside of the Gripen's canopy is distracting and impairs the pilots vision if it's anything like what I sene on this end.
This mod of the su 35 is not have trust vectoring...

So, you take a light fighter put it against a heavy fighter. Then, you halve the range of the armament on the light fighter, AND give it half the shots…… sure! Derby is a great missile. For MEDIUM ranges! Are you that adverse to seeing fair fights?
