I am glad you pointed out the basics. I leave the "fun" stuff for my cardio, jump around dance, run with the dogs! But my lifting consists of the basics on a 8 to 10 week schedule. Just today I said, this is sort of boring but I still love it. I can see my progress that way. I think the follow along videos like this NEVER give enough rest time (not all but the majority). Its more like a race and endurance but they are telling you to lift heavy. In order to really lift heavy, you need the rest time. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to these videos.
As someone who does Sydney's video and watched you for education, I wondered about the rest times a lot. While I often don't lift heavy enough (thank you for acknowledging that not everyone is able to have 10 different dumbbell weights at home) my heartbeat still gets pretty high, mostly on lower body days, and I definitely need more than the 15-20 seconds of rest. I can't even get a proper gulp of water or wipe my sweat in 15 seconds. So I pause and take longer breaks to catch my breath. But then a 45 minute work out easily turns into an hour long work out, which is something one has to account for.
I do the same. Especially when I’m pushing heavy weights. And a 15 second rest is not enough to catch my breath. So I kind of stopped her workouts 😅 and some of the movements were hurting my knees to much as well. So I went another route 😅
I used to LIVE for Sydney’s workouts! As they changed, I changed with them…and was excited to do so! That is until rest time became practically nonexistent. I’d be pausing her videos ALL the time just to catch my breath! I couldn’t even switch out my weights in the “rest” time she gave. I had to quit her programs bc I kept leaving the workouts feeling so down on myself for not being able to keep up…despite KNOWing that it was nearly impossible. I always felt like I wasn’t healthy enough, fit enough, GOOD enough…and that just wasn’t fair to me.😞
@@olha_zin Hi! I don’t mind at all! I ended up trying a few free trials of some different apps and landed on Krissy Cela’s EvolveYou app. I subscribed during one of their sales and it actually saved me money vs buying Sydney’s calendar every month.
I completely agree about lack of rest! I love Sydney and have been doing her workouts for years but have also noticed how her newer videos are so rushed. I feel like I’m dying when I get to the rest period and it’s immediately into the next set or exercise. Glad you reviewed her this vlogmas! 🎄
I was so excited when I saw you were reviewing a Sydney workout! I love Sydney's workouts, but I totally agree with feeling so rushed! Every one of her workouts I have to add around 15 extra minutes of reset scattered throughout to be able to push up in weights. Not really a problem since most of her workouts now are never over 40 minutes. That said, her formatting has allowed me to see so much progress because she is at least super consistent in her moves. The fact that she pushes herself and struggles along with you in the moves is very motivating to me to always try to push up in weight. I very much appreciate your honesty here though!
I think most people who are complaining in general about Sydney, just are resistant to change and general business and life evolvement. She was young when she started this channel and in a different chapter in life. Her life has dramatically changed with marriage, a baby, a booming business and the normal maturation process. Structurally, she HAD to make some changes to the programming whether her viewers liked it or not. 5-6 new videos per week? Not sustainable. She is a mom and business owner, and time is precious and scarce. You can find yourself in a pack it all in, hair on fire mode that permeates every facet of life and...business. I think the rushing is coming from 2 things...people complaining about the longer rest periods in the past , incessantly I might add, and her mom/business owner rush mode. I agree the rest periods are wholly inadequate if you are lifting heavy but Ido not have a problem at all with her no nonsense, get it done tone in the videos. I actually like it. As a former group exercise instructor and exercise physiologist and scientist, Sydney's programs are solid. She just needs to add an extended warm- up, longer rest periods, mobility exercises throughout and a solid 5 minutes of stretching. If you don't sdd these things, your students will not do them on their own. She also has to ignore the complainers and use her expertise to structure the programs. Don't like the longer rests, educate why they need them. If they still complain? Move on. Co structive criticism is valued as a business owner; however complaining due to lack of knowledge or unrealistic expectations have to be handled with education. You are never going to please everyone and you have to stay true to your process, your mission and expertise.
While I understand a lot of criticism she got lately, people complaining about her "only" uploading 3 new work outs a week is wild to me. She set the bar too high and people stopped realizing that they won't really find anyone else posting 5-6 new work outs a week for free consistently for years. It's so easy to just go to her older programs if people aren't happy with the newer ones but still want to do her videos.
7:00-8:24 loved the advice and insight here on what you would have changed. Especially adding mobility into the light rest time. Fantastic video. Thank you for keeping it up! You're doing great 😊
I love Sydney she's my gal! But I absolutely think she is trying to ram too much into shorter workouts, and her warm ups and cool downs were far more extensive in older programs. I personally prefer her older, longer workouts, with longer rests. These newer ones do feel rushed for me too. Thanks for another awesome review Justina 😊
Yeah, safely maneuvering a reasonably challenging weight into place for glute bridges especially takes me longer than 15 seconds. I can either use a not-challenging weight, take longer, or injure myself. So I just take longer.
Oh yeah bummed on this score. I’m just super grateful to have a qualified instructor that puts out free content. Love her old and new content. Just a fan.
reading the comments was super helpful in putting a name to how I was feeling with her workouts. I consistently did her programmes from 2021 and saw great results from them but lately her new workouts just felt meh and for the life of me I just couldn't keep consistent even though all of my other environmental factors were essentially the same. I'm coming off from 3 weeks of not working out and I think this video and comments helped me make the choice to follow her older programmes instead. 😂
I hadn't fully grasped the nuances of form and control until I watched this side-by-side. I'm no expert, but I can see the amount of control in your hinging, heel placement during glute bridges, and overall stability in lunges. I watch your other videos that break down these moves cuz I struggle with my form, and your tips and cuing help me understand the human anatomy and mechanisms of things. Knowing what I know now, it hits differently seeing it here. Training with intention suddenly makes so much more sense!
i actually had tried sydney back in the day but even then felt rushed. it may just be her demeanor. she is incredible, though and has doled out so much free content its tough to criticize. thanks for these fun vlogs!
I had gotten into her workouts earlier this year, and liked the programming, but after her summer program, her workouts changed to having weird clickbait images (one of her grabbing her boobs, one with an arrow at her butt), and she would have ads running as a banner during the warm-up of her modeling her workout clothing line, and it was distracting and annoying, and it felt more like she was into promoting her merch and lifestyle brand while doing the workout. It really turned me off, and I stopped doing her workouts. Her older ones are good, I just didn't like the marketing change in the more current ones.
I think the issue witth Sidney is that she used to post "programs" and they all have a very clear and straight forward theme: "strong", "pump", etc. Now it's just random workouts and it doesn't feel like a structure to it, besides the rushing thing.
@@noriem4244 I lover Upper body workouts but that is too much. I was looking forward for what she would do after the summer program and now I just moved on.
Fun fact - the "programmes" you know and love have actually only been a thing Sydney has been doing for 2, maybe 3 years. Her channel is closer to 6 years old, I think, so it's evolved more than once!
This makes me a little sad too as Sydney was my first transition to programmed weight lifting years ago. For follow along workouts where this isn't enough rest time, now I usually pause the video at the rest times and work at my own pace so I can use heavier weights. It took me a long time though to feel like I wasn't cheating myself not following a video 100% the way it's presented.
Sydney introduced me to strength training. I used her workouts for two years fairly consistently. I went from 120 lbs to 145 lbs in two years with her older programs. She will probably always be my favorite. I’ve been doing other content creators and apps recently, but I have to thank Sydney for teaching and coaching me through the basics. ❤
Ive gained 15 pounds doing them and I honestly don't feel great about buying bigger clothes or seeing a number on the scale when I go to the doctor. I know everyone else's goal is a bigger booty or whatever but being a cardio girl is so ingrained into my psyche!
@@nikkismustanggt I struggled with it too at first. I listened to a podcast by MindPump on growing your glutes, and one of the hosts of the podcast said women’s jeans are not made for women with muscular thighs and butts. I think I knew that, but hearing it from someone who has worked with hundreds of clients who have had similar struggles really helped.
@@brittanyadams9410Its good to know im not the only one. I was never curvy to begin with so I was 120 pounds and wearing the smallest size. I have gained a lot of muscle but my waist is bigger too.
Excited for the RISE review, I meant to submit that when you were asking for creators. Doing their programme now, well sort of since I have to adapt everything to accommodate physio following knee surgery in July!
I started doing Sydney's workouts after seeing your review and love her older programs, but I do agree that the more recent ones aren't the same. Part of what I love about her videos is that she includes a warmup, but the "cut for time" warmups just aren't enough. TH-cam started suggesting Kaleigh Cohen videos and I've been really impressed with her.
6:43 I just did the workout how you would have formulated it, and it was amazing! Im still sweaty and working hard, but I’m not about to fall out 😅 with PCOS it’s not good to raise cortisol, and hard exercise def does that. This one was perfect, and I included the hip mobility exercises in the rest time 😊
I 💯 agree. I did this workout last week and I really had a problem with the short rest period. It was way too quick and I felt like I was doing cardio , though I mostly enjoyed the workout
I just want to thank you for introducing me to Sydney Cummings. I am going to try a low-impact workout of hers today due to some whining from my body and see how that compares to some of the other low-impact videos I have done. Once I get weights it will open up a world of more options, but that is in the second half of next month, I expect. I tend to watch shows or movies while doing workouts, now, so the comments about her ads I won't really notice. I do this so I don't feel pressure to go at their pace, but to do it at my pace and if I am more tired from not having long rest periods, I will just get fewer reps but as I get more fit I feel I will be able to keep up in the later workouts without needing longer rest periods. Again, thank you very much for these reviews. You are teaching me more about what a certified trainer should know and be like.
Watching you do that workout with the white cable behind gave me serious anxiety! I am really loving the vlogmas it's my favourite thing to watch on TH-cam. I have been a group instructor for a bit now, and have done many classes, so when the instructor is busy, in a rush, flustered or not on schedule you can tell. It's bad. So the things you don't like from this sound like she is under prepared. But being a parent and in fitness gives added pressure to bounce back, and work like you're not a mother. It may be just bad programming. I love training on an app or anything online, so this series is perfect for inspo! I'm going to try some of your classes over Christmas I'm so excited xx
Glad to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t really connect with her new videos/programs. I invested in heavier weights so best believe I need to warm up properly and need my rest. But if I feel like doing her workouts, I do her older ones instead. I love her STF 2.0 and STF 3.0 programs sm they helped me lots with consistency 😭🙏🏼
I like Sydney's workouts quite a lot. Her channel has definitely changed though I feel like the workouts don't really have the intention that they used to have or that she doesn't really have the intention that she used to have. Kind of weird I don't really know how to describe it but she's definitely changed.
Sydney's workouts are the only one I've been following since 3 years now, there is something special about them. However, I must admit that I am not a fan of her newer one as well, so I keep doing the older workouts Thanks for the daily reviews, take care ❤
I started my workout journey with Sydney back in 2020 during COVID and she changed my life for the better. I will always be thankful to her for that but yes i echo your thoughts on her programming now. It has changed a lot and no matter how much I tried I just couldn’t get through her workouts anymore. Her warmup just doesn’t make sense to me anymore and the whole rushing little to no rest my body just couldn’t keep up postpartum. I have moved on to doing Jasper Macdermot’s workouts and they have been such a wonderful find for me during this phase of my life.
Totally sympathize with the non-stop night coughing. That happened to me about a year ago after a bad cold. My allergist ended up prescribing me a 14 day inhaler that did the trick. Don't know if that'll help at all, but thought I'd share just in case it might be something to look into if you need it. Also, totally agree with the shift in Sydney's program not being great. I think her strength is in 45-60 minute workouts.
Hmmm...this review has made me wonder if I should start programming my own strength training workouts. I love Sydney, and I still do even though there has been some changes to her programming, but when you showed that I could be doing less moves with more rest time, I realized maybe I've been relying on fitness TH-camrs a little too much. Videos are helpful if you are running short on time and just want someone to tell you what to do, but maybe it's time I learn how to do the work, myself. The only problem is, I'm a complete novice and have no idea how to do that. Time for google...
I think that is a fair judgement. I work out with her everyday, have been since you reviewed her a couple years ago. I wonder if the change is programming is a result of responses from viewers? I remember taking a quick survey over instagram awhile back about time preferences (how long you prefer workouts to be and that sort of stuff) so maybe the majority of people prefer 30 mins just for time reasons? I much prefer a 40-45 minute workout that includes warmup and cooldown myself….long enough to really be challenged and push into heavy weights. Side note, that whole boob grabbing picture thing was weird! 😂 I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought so 😂 Overall though, I do like her workouts and will continue to workout with her but I do see there is some room for improvement possibly with the most programming. You phrased it well Justina and made an honest and fair judgment.
I was such a dedicated Sydney fan and followed her programming for like 2 years! She honestly started cutting the rest time back way back in her Momentum program (I think maybe spring 2022?) Trying to fit the same number of moves into a shorter workout just wasn’t doing it for me. I also feel like combining the newly recorded videos with older ones for a program makes the programming feel way less intentional (although I agree recording 5-6x a week is insane, not saying she should go back to that!)
Question: If you like a creator and want to support them, does it make a difference whether you watch their new workouts or just keep watching their older workouts? I feel like if Sydney Cummings has a lot of great older content then people could just keep watching that. I keep playlists of stuff I like (long workout playlists, under 10 min playlists, pregnant-friendly playlists) and I wonder how common it is for people to just follow their favorite older videos? And does it help the creator a lot less than watching a new video?
I think it depends on what you mean by “help.” If you watch any video (new or old), they’ll get Adsense from that ($$). But if you want to help by providing feedback, watching the older videos that you prefer will show up on her analytics! You can also comment and say what you enjoy!
To me, she seems tired. Maybe she's also sick and tired. I've been subscribed to her channel for years but never worked out with her because I was intimidated. Last April I followed her PRE program (which I loved) and then did 8 out of the 12 weeks of STF23 program. Then it was scorching hot where I live and didn't feel like doing anything let alone work out, which is sad because I was really enjoying that program too. Something is off. I agree. But people complain about everything. If it's 30 min they want 40 min. If it's 40 min they want 60 min. If it's 30 sec intervals they want 45 sec. If it's 45 sec they want 60 sec. If it's 60 sec they are bored. If it's cardio they want strength and vice versa. She uploads 3 times a week and still adds 2 of her previous workout to the monthly list. This is what she wants to offer right know. Yes she seems like a completely different person, but we have no idea what is happening in her life and it's like people expect a custom made workout just for them and for free. The problem is that she probably feels the pressure and she is ramming so much which means almost no transition time (I simply pause the video), she also forgets to add low impact options and sometimes even her form suffers which is the worst of all. I know I had a lot to say but I've doing her workouts for the biggest part of the year and I had opinions 😉
I completely agree with your comment. Unfortunately I am one of those people that want old Sydney energy and workouts. I think she's tired, which I get, she's a mom now. But she doesn't even have the same energetic intro to the workouts that she used to have. Like I remember she was all pump, excited, and happy to be here with us, like I really appreciated that. Now her energy seems down. I also workout to Heather Robertson and Penny Barnshaw and their energy is consistent and so are their workouts. I think she's on a different journey that I/we are and that's ok. I already moved on to other fitness influencers that are giving me what I want and there are so many great ones out there.
It's true you will never make everyone happy. Sydney put out a lot of good content for free and for years she did it everyday. She is human. She might just be burnt out. I did enjoy her old programming more but we don't know what she has going on in her life at the moment. She may need a break. I am grateful for her and that she still tries to bring joy to others.
i know it probably won't help anymore, but if you are coughing a lot during the night, it helps to elevate your pillow/head. Usually i use 2-3 pillows or doublestuff my pillowcase. After I heard this from a nurse, it has changed my sickness-game
I feel very few you tube videos give enough rest I think it’s just that they don’t want viewers to get bored but you really do need rest to be able to lift heavy. Maybe that’s where a superset of alternating an upper body with a lower or chest then back would be good then at least one muscle group is resting while the other works. I do her workouts occasionally I thought even the older ones had short rest too so to me it doesn’t seem to have changed much but maybe my memory is faulty. Love the series 😊
I really feel like an issue is a lot of people want short workouts with fast heartrate (her program that month didn't have cardio) and people get upset if they aren't like sweating and heart pumping. Some of us would rather have 50 to 60 minutes with more rest time but I think the other group wins more often. OH well! I agree with your review... thanks for posting ! Also i just pause the videos for more rest. I dont mind that, i still benefit
Totally fair! But I think if the coach gives people what they ask for (high heart rate workouts aka cardio), they should educate their consumers on it.
I was about to make a comment about Rise and then you picked it! I was doing Rise for manyyyy months and it’s a great program, especially for the price point. But one thing they sometimes do since almost all of their workouts are structured as a Plyo move, three supersets sort of going from big compound lift down to accessory/isolation moves, and then a finisher of some sort. And sometime with their first super set they’ll do the main compound lift and then the second move of the super set is a mobility drill and I always really enjoyed it when that’s what it was.
I did this workout and completely agree with all your points. I don't like having to pause a video because it makes me lose momentum but I see you had to as well. Also the little mini mat you used for glute bridges is a great idea!
I agree that this is some odd programming. Use maybe half of those exercises, include a weighted warmup set and have decent rest time (it’s simple logic that if you can go into the next set in a strength workout after 15sec rest the the set wasn’t challenging enough for you to develop strength!) It’s tough when you hope it to be better but you have to call it as it is 👍
This was a good reminder that I need to program longer rest times for myself... I'm not always lifting with the heaviest weights because I don't really enjoy doing that lately, but sometimes my rest time is only 15 sec lol... I think I could pretty easily give myself 30 sec-1 min sometimes and still not spend a lot of time working out! ^_^
Absolutely! I would go higher rep (12+) with less rest time. And depending on if you want cardio endurance or muscle endurance, you could adapt the programming too.
thanks! I don't intend to gossip, so I won't give names either. but the other day, a rich wellness influencer couldn't remember the word "cardio" and looked it up from google and I was shocked. As a person who very often consumes the content of that woman and her kind, I am now interested in you and my beloved margaret elizabeth. Thank you on my behalf for defending science and truth. lots of love.@@JustinaErcole
I work at a school and swear by nasal saline rinse. I don’t like the netipot and use the Neil Med Sinus rinse bottle. I hate squirting saline solution up my nose lol, but it’s great at relieving symptoms. I also use it once a week as prevention. I’ve never tried Sydney Cummings, too intimidated! The only channel I’ve found so far with follow along workouts with longer rest periods is HASfit. Their rest range from 30-60 seconds. Another option are videos that show the move but you do the workout on your own, sort of a video paper workout. I did one on Mind Pump TV and was surprised at how much heavier I could lift. Most you tube strength workouts go too fast for me.
I’m so sad she got a 3 out of 5 on both. But this particular workout, I also did this at one point, and I have to agree with everything you said, especially with the warm up and rest times being so short. She has changed up her programming a bit. She has a little one around now and she’s currently going through a loss in her family, so I’m wondering if that’s why. I personally don’t mind the 30 to 40 minute workouts because I’m finding it easier for me to do 30 to 40 minutes a day 4 to 5 times a week instead of 50 to 60 minutes. I know she said she tries to program things based on her Sydney squad members’ opinions (not sure if she also reads youtube comments) and opinions sent to her when she asks a question on her Instagram. So that’s another reason for the change. But the thumbnails are questionable at times, like Silvestri Melissa mentioned.
I enjoy Sydney a lot and I credit her programs (and your review of her!) from a couple of years ago with getting me off of Blogilates and into resistance training at home. My one mile running time decreased significantly as did my back and knee pain and I know for a fact it was because of her workouts. That being said, I also only do what I know is good for me, and I feel like sometimes she's asking for WAY too much in 45 seconds with only 15 seconds of rest. I modify so as not to hurt myself, but if I hadn't done sports growing up I might not have had the base knowledge to modify in a healthy way. I think a lot of creators now feel pressured to post certain workouts for the algorithm, Sydney unfortunately included. I think casual consumers of fitness content get easily wrapped up in thinking they have to GO BEASTMODE when in reality they'd do themselves a huge favor by reserving a few minutes to warm up and stretch.
No way, I think that was my comment asking for RISE!! Totally understandable if you don’t get to their program(although that would be sick if you did), but I’m so excited for tomorrow! Absolutely loving vlogmas!
4 Week Intro to Kettlebells Program in January! It’s great for anyone who wants to learn the basics (swings, cleans, snatches, TGU) in a progressive way. In the FITT Club and available for purchase :)
To be fair, if I looked at my form from 3 years ago I would have a lot to say! I don’t like to critique people on the nitty gritty of their form, because you never know what’s going on with their bodies.
Ive been doing Sydneys workouts for 5 years, and i have to say she has changed a lot. If i do her videos now, it is older ones. The new content feels less personal, less connected, and like shes bored. Ive moved on...the excuse that she had a child really is a diservice to other moms in fitness...
You know you talking about rest periods in this video made me think about the first time I started doing youtube workouts and wondering why in the world we were resting for X amount of seconds everytime we do a move . I just thought it was a youtube thing with the creators trying to get time for ads to be placed for money .🤣🤣See I was used to only doing dvd workouts and thought the only time you should relax is after the workout. I do love Sydney and she has made a thousand plus free workouts .
I love your reviews! You provide so much quality feedback. One of the other channels that you reviewed is changing her format to strength training as well. I feel like some of these instructors are seeing the success of Caroline Girvan and are trying to replicate her workouts in some way. Just me opining. Happy holidays!!
Wow you did a workout I did myself. I will like it because she encourages me to go up in weight. ❤❤ But I feel where you are coming from. And she might be rushed because she is a mom now.
Reading all these comments from OG Sydney's fans is making me a little sad, even though I don't know her and I never did any of her workouts. 🙁 Your review is very fair, I am sure, but yeah, I feel for the fanbase!
Lol, and here i was out wondering why her, idk, 30 minute workouts easily last 45 minutes or more for me, as an example. That explains it then. Because I need way more rest times than she is giving to be able to adequately lift again. Especially on lower body days. I still like doing Sydney's workouts, but i don't see any reason to rush them as much as she does often (to fit the time limit/frame she has given in a specific vid) and go at my own pace instead to get "my workout time's worth"
Her work lately has been extremely disappointing. I agree, it all feels rushed. And her form and coaching lately feels so very sloppy. Trying to cram so much in such a short time is definitely not ideal.
After reviewing one of your workouts after listening to you critique another trainer (skipped through this video and heard you saying what you would do) .. I can see why there is a difference in number of subscribers between you and Sydney. Another bonus for Sydney... She doesn't do this to other trainers. If she wanted she could do a 2 hour one critiquing you 🤷🏼♀️
Genuine question - do Americans really believe that a relationship/life changes completely when someone gets married? I'm asking as a non-Freedom Eagle [obviously], but this is not the first time I've heard you guys say, "oh, she's/he's/they're married now, so..." as though that means a whole different set of life behavious. I'm from Europe and Australia, and I can absolutely 10000000% hand-on-heart swear that in both continents, people don't think that a relationship "starts" when the couple gets married, you know? Just trying to understand why that's being used as an explainer [especially considering, from what people have said, Sydney and Dustin were engaged apparently for a thousand years and have lived together for almost as long] here and elsewhere as to life changes. Not a critique of the video itself. Anyway - super interesting video! Think you just gained a new subscriber; I appreciate your commentary and insights! I've been a long-time lifter-of-heavy-things so happy to hear differnent perspectives on one of my favourite hobbies.
It’s a VERY American thing 100%. Also depends on your demographic. Pretty much nothing changed when Kevin and I got married. But that’s simply our experience!
@@JustinaErcole Fair point! As a privileged white person with no religious affiliation, I'm speaking from a particular experience [quite a common one in Australia] - I was just confused and interested to learn if this is/was an isolated experience. Thanks for the context! :) Happy/Merry Everything!
Oh and your question and experience is totally valid! Sorry if I came off as rude. I actually don't relate to that part of our culture, but I think a lot of that has to do with where I grew up and our life choices. Happy holidays right back at you friend!
I am sad to say that Sydney’s workouts are not as fun or creative as they once were. She seems distracted - notice how she looks off camera - and the joy of the workout is missing. She and her husband do create great looking productions, but the content has deteriorated. It makes me sad.
Her workouts are very fast paced and I find the warmup and cool downs are ways too fast and so are the breaks and transitions. Her workouts are challenging but not my favorite
I can never get into her workouts. I personally find that she talks way too much! I like music to take my mind away, not all that jibber jabber! I like educational videos like yours for the talking!
Thank you for all the hard work you put in to these videos.
yesss it's an amazing way to measure your progress!
For sure!
I always felt like I wasn’t healthy enough, fit enough, GOOD enough…and that just wasn’t fair to me.😞
Hi! Do you mind me asking if you have found some other channel with programs that you enjoy?
@@olha_zin Hi! I don’t mind at all!
I ended up trying a few free trials of some different apps and landed on Krissy Cela’s EvolveYou app. I subscribed during one of their sales and it actually saved me money vs buying Sydney’s calendar every month.
@@olha_zin Michelle Briehler on TH-cam is amazing, strength, kickboxing, yoga, pilates she has every thing!
that's too bad she made you feel bad, sorry to hear that but also not surprised
I hope you found something you vibe with now!
I completely agree about lack of rest! I love Sydney and have been doing her workouts for years but have also noticed how her newer videos are so rushed. I feel like I’m dying when I get to the rest period and it’s immediately into the next set or exercise. Glad you reviewed her this vlogmas! 🎄
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Agreed!
You're doing great 😊
Thank you!
I love Sydney she's my gal! But I absolutely think she is trying to ram too much into shorter workouts, and her warm ups and cool downs were far more extensive in older programs. I personally prefer her older, longer workouts, with longer rests. These newer ones do feel rushed for me too.
Thanks for another awesome review Justina 😊
you're so welcome!
@@helena_5456 Absolutely 💯!
Just a fan.
I’m happy you have someone you love!
reading the comments was super helpful in putting a name to how I was feeling with her workouts. 😂
or try Michelle Briehler, she has a wonderful catalog of diverse workouts...
I love that you were able to make an educated decision back into movement!
There’s definitely a lot of importance in tension!
i actually had tried sydney back in the day but even then felt rushed. it may just be her demeanor. she is incredible, though and has doled out so much free content its tough to criticize. thanks for these fun vlogs!
Possibly!
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way! After the 2023 program, I started doing some of her older workouts.
Same. I'm currently doing a round of Transcend (her December 2020 program), and it's SO good.
interesting points!
@@RachelSullivan73 I'm also doing Transcend and it's kicking my ass but I like that.
Same here.
I think the issue witth Sidney is that she used to post "programs" and they all have a very clear and straight forward theme: "strong", "pump", etc. Now it's just random workouts and it doesn't feel like a structure to it, besides the rushing thing.
ahhh maybe that's the difference!
Yup, very disjointed...that's why I stopped doing her videos.
Yup. There was a Time I found myself doing bicep workouts three times in a week in one of her new programs.
That’s smart!
I’m so glad she got you into strength training!
Excited for the RISE review, I meant to submit that when you were asking for creators. Doing their programme now, well sort of since I have to adapt everything to accommodate physio following knee surgery in July!
It’s a fun video!
She’s in the bowl a few times!
I only started doing her workouts this year I much prefer her older videos
6:43 I just did the workout how you would have formulated it, and it was amazing! Im still sweaty and working hard, but I’m not about to fall out 😅 with PCOS it’s not good to raise cortisol, and hard exercise def does that. This one was perfect, and I included the hip mobility exercises in the rest time 😊
Ahhhh I love that!! Less is more and this is such a great testimonial ❤️
I 💯 agree. I did this workout last week and I really had a problem with the short rest period. It was way too quick and I felt like I was doing cardio , though I mostly enjoyed the workout
i'm glad you enjoyed!
You’re so welcome!
Haha yeah I probably should have moved that 😂
Glad to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t really connect with her new videos/programs. I invested in heavier weights so best believe I need to warm up properly and need my rest. But if I feel like doing her workouts, I do her older ones instead. I love her STF 2.0 and STF 3.0 programs sm they helped me lots with consistency 😭🙏🏼
To be fair, I only tried one!
I like Sydney's workouts quite a lot. Her channel has definitely changed though I feel like the workouts don't really have the intention that they used to have or that she doesn't really have the intention that she used to have. Kind of weird I don't really know how to describe it but she's definitely changed.
thanks for sharing your take!
Agree. Her vibe is different
Sydney's workouts are the only one I've been following since 3 years now, there is something special about them.
However, I must admit that I am not a fan of her newer one as well, so I keep doing the older workouts
Thanks for the daily reviews, take care ❤
Thanks for sharing!
hi, what is the difference
I started my workout journey with Sydney back in 2020 during COVID and she changed my life for the better. I will always be thankful to her for that but yes i echo your thoughts on her programming now. It has changed a lot and no matter how much I tried I just couldn’t get through her workouts anymore. Her warmup just doesn’t make sense to me anymore and the whole rushing little to no rest my body just couldn’t keep up postpartum. I have moved on to doing Jasper Macdermot’s workouts and they have been such a wonderful find for me during this phase of my life.
i'm glad you've found someone who vibes with you currently!
Luckily the cough is gone! thank you so much for the tip though :)
I love the camera angle with Marcel the Shell with shoes on!
I love my little Marcel!
I have a ton of videos on programming too!
Thanks! I'll be sure to watch them and take notes. :)
i love sydney's video but i AGREE with the rest time!!! i am so glad you bought it up!!
Good for you for taking care of your yourself through this with being sick.
❤️
Watching your gives nostalgia. Makes me miss my home (NYC) tho it’s pretty crazy I still miss it for some parts
She asked those questions but it didn't seem like she did what the majority of people were asking for...I need longer workouts too
Possibly! I think there’s a way though to give people want they want and still provide efficient programming.
100%!
I'm excited about tomorrow! I've done RISE Lite previously and I love Jason and Lauren ❤
Enjoy!
Just here to say I’m loving the vlogs! Looks like you’ve got a very engaged subscriber base, it’s nice to see
I’m so glad you’re enjoying!
You make some excellent points in here!
This is actually the thing that helped!! Thank you!
Glad you’re enjoying!
I agree 💯💯
I was about to make a comment about Rise and then you picked it! I was doing Rise for manyyyy months and it’s a great program, especially for the price point. But one thing they sometimes do since almost all of their workouts are structured as a Plyo move, three supersets sort of going from big compound lift down to accessory/isolation moves, and then a finisher of some sort. And sometime with their first super set they’ll do the main compound lift and then the second move of the super set is a mobility drill and I always really enjoyed it when that’s what it was.
Ooh love that!
I did this workout and completely agree with all your points. I don't like having to pause a video because it makes me lose momentum but I see you had to as well. Also the little mini mat you used for glute bridges is a great idea!
Thanks!
I agree that this is some odd programming. Use maybe half of those exercises, include a weighted warmup set and have decent rest time (it’s simple logic that if you can go into the next set in a strength workout after 15sec rest the the set wasn’t challenging enough for you to develop strength!) It’s tough when you hope it to be better but you have to call it as it is 👍
That would have been another great programming option!
I am glad you reviewed Sydney. I much prefer her older videos.
I loved the workouts I tried years ago!
Totally!
hi loved how you explained everything in a science backed way. can you tell me how can i make my workouts endurance based
Ooh I’ll try that!
huge fan of Jason and Lauren - super excited for the next one!
Thanks!
I was sad too!
I love Sydney Cummings for stretching. Her stretches are some of the best, period.
That’s great!
Yesss that’s why I really emphasize educating people along the way!
@justinaercola Shallow question… where did you get the top you are wearing? So cute and comfy looking.
Lululemon! It's about 3 years old though :)
No way, I think that was my comment asking for RISE!! Totally understandable if you don’t get to their program(although that would be sick if you did), but I’m so excited for tomorrow! Absolutely loving vlogmas!
So glad you’re enjoying!
Did you say kettlebells ??? January... can you tell us more? Pretty please. 😁
4 Week Intro to Kettlebells Program in January! It’s great for anyone who wants to learn the basics (swings, cleans, snatches, TGU) in a progressive way. In the FITT Club and available for purchase :)
I used to love her workouts but then I really started working on my form. I started seeing her form wasn't always the best.
Fair point!
Haha oh that’s so funny you thought that!
how do you go about programming your own strength training exercises
I’ve made a ton of videos on programming!
I love your reviews! You provide so much quality feedback.
One of the other channels that you reviewed is changing her format to strength training as well. I feel like some of these instructors are seeing the success of Caroline Girvan and are trying to replicate her workouts in some way. Just me opining. Happy holidays!!
Oh interesting!
I don't usually comment but i really enjoyed this video lol. Thank you
thank you so much for watching!
Wow you did a workout I did myself. I will like it because she encourages me to go up in weight. ❤❤ But I feel where you are coming from. And she might be rushed because she is a mom now.
I do LOVE that part of Sydney's coaching!
Reading all these comments from OG Sydney's fans is making me a little sad, even though I don't know her and I never did any of her workouts. 🙁 Your review is very fair, I am sure, but yeah, I feel for the fanbase!
Girl my husband been sick off and on for 2 months
Oh no!
Yay im so excited about tomorrow! Lol
Enjoy!
I was religiously doing Sydney Cummings. I’m a newb and I dislocated my knee from her workouts. It was her summer program. I lost trust in her.
Unfortunately there’s always risk with any workout!
I’m glad you’re able to go at your own pace!
I much prefer Sydney's older workouts i absolutely enjoyed them more
I’m glad you’ve figured out what you enjoy though!
Her work lately has been extremely disappointing. I agree, it all feels rushed. And her form and coaching lately feels so very sloppy. Trying to cram so much in such a short time is definitely not ideal.
It’s a shame you feel that way!
After reviewing one of your workouts after listening to you critique another trainer (skipped through this video and heard you saying what you would do) .. I can see why there is a difference in number of subscribers between you and Sydney. Another bonus for Sydney... She doesn't do this to other trainers. If she wanted she could do a 2 hour one critiquing you 🤷🏼♀️
I would love her feedback!
@@JustinaErcole You didn't come off as rude at ALL, ladycakes! :) Have fun out there!
:)
I am sad to say that Sydney’s workouts are not as fun or creative as they once were. She seems distracted - notice how she looks off camera - and the joy of the workout is missing. She and her husband do create great looking productions, but the content has deteriorated. It makes me sad.
i'm sorry you feel that way!
I used to like Sydney. I greatly dislike her new workouts.
that's a shame!
Her workouts are very fast paced and I find the warmup and cool downs are ways too fast and so are the breaks and transitions.
Her workouts are challenging but not my favorite
Thanks for watching!
I can never get into her workouts. I personally find that she talks way too much! I like music to take my mind away, not all that jibber jabber! I like educational videos like yours for the talking!
totally fair!
