I was choked up the entire time, and I have no context for what is actually happening. lol but I can tel already that she is a brilliant character with so much pain. This video really hurts! You captured the hurt she feels and also this desire for a place to belong/a family. That really broke my heart! I don't even know what to say! You get to the heart of the characters you vid. Reviews of this season haven't been that great, but I'm really enjoying it, as the pace is different than the previous 2 seasons. We had 2 seasons of killing & thrilling and now it's time to get some background - turns out that the mother is the monster and Villanelle possesses some kind of protective, nurturing instinct to save her her older and little brother and give him money to see Elton.
She wasn't abused, she was a sociopath from the start. This S3EP5 was designed to make her more sympathetic but it can be interpreted two different ways. It's up to who we believe and I don't believe Villanelle. Although I don't think her mother is a great person like how she's obviously a little abusive cause of how she treats her son but she very likely had to deal with Villanelle's manipulative behaviour as a young child. That probably wore her down and turnt her into this sad woman. Parents of psychopathic children have said that their kids act like Villanelle, the way her mother is describing it. Her mother abandoned her because she was afraid of her. I mean she did set fire to an orphanage. I still like Villanelle I just know she doesn't need a real sob story to explain her behaviour to me, I know she's a monster. Why send mix messages? This was probably designed to appease fans who like her but hate that they like her and weren't entirely on board with Villanelle now can be. But the fans that accept she's a psychopath can also be like the way they think of her is correct too. This scene obviously designed in a way where we won't have a clear consensus on Villanelle either interpretation is acceptable. But for the people who love her and wanted a sob story to explain her this works for them too. Most people like Villanelle so they'll very likely accept the latter.
for me Jodie's acting was the only thing that kept me watching the series... I mean other actors and visuals were also good but the plot... how did we last for 3 seasons without getting to find out who the 12 are? or what's their purpose or anything like man.. there is no story telling
