Could you begin to explain what you mean by that? Because the eagles could NOT have brought Frodo to Mordor. They would have been seen and stopped by the flying Nazgul. Just because you do not understand Middle Earth, do not try to equate what I stated with unfathomable comparisons. Bottomline: Smaug would NEVER leave Erebor with the dwarves roaming around until he or they were dead. And Bilbo in live view of Smaug, a few meters away. Smaug would have obliterated him in seconds. All this "epic" conversation does is make Smaug look like a non-threat and idiotic as well as ruin all the suspense that should have been in the story. This is supposed to be a movie, not a cheap cell phone video game.
My entire family are Tolkien fans and I remember when this trailer came out. My mom called me over and we sat down together. I was already super excited but when I heard Smaug's voice. I ended up having chills. It was shocking and amazing to me.
Half the people love Legolas' appearance in the movie, and all the other die-hard Tolkien fans hate it. But come on guys - the Hobbit was written before LotR and Legolas' character was adapted. Clearly at this point everyone KNOWS that Thranduil (aka. The guy who's imprisoned the Dwarves) have a son. Why the hell wouldn't he be in his own home?!
I once saw this trailer in the cinema and that was the reason why I watched all the LotR movies plus "The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey". I didn't regret it at all, every single trilogy, both the LotR and The Hobbit, is amazing. It's a real shame there will be no more since every minute was precious to me.
+Dolphin Mapping Nope. Tolkien's son hated the LOTR movies and tried to stop the making of Hobbit (he sold the rights to both of them at the same time), so now after he saw The Hobbit and hated it even more he will never allow more Middle Earth movies.
***** Well he's still alive and kicking now, so we have quite a few years ahead of us before his passing. And even if the relatives would sell the rights, it would take a few years to make something so epic. So IF we'll ever get them, be ready to wait for about a decade.
Why you are thinking the same of me, It's a pity that they can't think up of a story to continue At least the Hobbit since all of the Movies which I have watched got me to Middle Earth addiction. These were not regretted at all, The best franchise of almost every movie I have watched. I wish they make a story or perhaps are at production of a much bigger movie. I like how the movies are always around 3 hours which means there is no fast foward for money , But the entertainment of watchers.
I've watched this trailer many times online, but when I went to see Catching Fire and this trailer played, Smaug's voice on the big screen was probably the coolest thing ever!
Whoever doesn't like these new films is crazy. This is coming from one who has red every Tolkien book. Peter Jackson has delivered a faithful adaption, nothing has been left out. The only purely added material are as follows: Tauriel, and Bard's backstory. Azog was mentioned in the Hobbit, he was created by Tolkien. Legolas was the son of the Elven King of Mirkwood (which was mentioned in LOTR books). The changes made in the movies are LOGICAL changes. Legolas would have been alive during the Hobbit. Tolkien just hadn't created his character yet. I knew Peter would add him in there before the first film even came out. Wayy before it came out I speculated he would be added...why?...because it is logical. Making Azog a big role was awesome because in the book a random goblin called the Great Goblin (not Goblin King under the mountain different guy) lead the orcs into the Battle of Five Armies. It gives a random character more depth. Just like the added Bard's backstory gives him more depth and makes him more interesting. And Tauriel....she's just a badass. Thank goodness Peter added her she was better than Arwen (in my opinion). So in short: read the books. Its like it says in the credits: "Based on'' if you want EXACTLY the book, read the book. You have to make embellishments when making a film based on a book. People forget ALLOT was changed or altered in the LOTR movies.
Someone finally made the point in here. Bolg son of Azog is the one who rides to the BOTFA comanding the orcs, so Azog as the father would be like an obvious and most welcomed add to the films. Now we can't wait for the third film and DOS Extended Edition precious, no we can'ts.
I think Azog was a great addition to the movie. Even though he was supposed to die at the Battle of Azanulbizar aka Moria. I think that in the movie, he did die, but Sauron the Necromancer brought him back to life to lead his forces in Gundabad and Dol Guldur, since the Witch King hadn't really gotten to his physical form yet. The only thing in the Desolation that I thought was pretty different from the book was the way they got to Beorn's house.
You have a point, but the whole film isn't rated entirely on plot-line. Some fans just really liked the way the orcs were in the LOTR by being men in costume rather than CGI or the way the film looked with a different video effect and/or other production styles that made the LOTR feel more real and slightly darker than The Hobbit.
Amazing movie. I love it even more now that I've watched the 9 hours of behind the scenes footage and have seen how much care and effort was put into creating this. Can't wait until the extended dvd of the battle of the five armies comes out.
I couldn't be the only one to realize how great this was (production wise, it's amazing! From the sets, to the visual effects, to the soundtrack, and the cinematography too) and also the acting is fantastic. Especially from Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman!
I actually felt disappointed at first and I thought "this can't be right" so I rewatched it and I've seen it 5 times now and I absolutely love it, what an amazing film.

It's an incredible movie with delightful scenes. Even though they skip some things that are not in the book, still worth admission to see. Can't wait for the battle of 5 armies. :)
as I was attempting to say this movie is one of the best ones I have ever seen. Martin Freeman as the role of Bilbo was perfect, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, wow! His voice took my breath away. And the return of Orlando Bloom as Legolas Greenleaf made me extremely happy! the perfect role once again! The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug has gotten 5* from me and a thumbs up!
The movie shows like Gandalf just happened to find traces of the Necromancer and went investigating Dol Guldur, while in reality, he knew damn well that the Necromancer is Sauron and deliberately put the dwarves on the quest to Erebor at the same time he and the White Council attacked Dol Guldur. He knew that this would stop Smaug and the Necromancer from helping each other.
Every now and then this trailer still plays in my shuffle list and I have to say it absolutely struck fear into the hearts of everyone's in the movie theater when smog annunciate himself the way he did it was truly all inspiring cuz unlike Sauron and the one ring in the previous Trilogy which chronologically happens after The Hobbit Story I mean a monster is something very relatable and I have a 300 ft Dragon literally talking to you in such courtesy and politeness is something truly terrifying
Hobbit #2 was actually better than #1 in my opinion. Tauriel and the bard are acted beautifully. I just wish more time had been spent conveying the atmosphere of the different cities and races, that was my favorite part of LOTR #1.

Even without the greatness of "The Lord of the Rings", "The Desolation of Smaug" preserves the adventurous spirit, the visual refinement breathtaking (this time the dragon Smaug is establishing a new standard of quality for digitally created creatures) and interest in iconic characters, beautifully interpreted.
I don't know about you guys.... but I think these movies are freaking awesome. It's not exactly like the book but all the action keeps you entertained and when I first saw the trailer I fangirled. Omg I just love the guy playing Thorin and Thorin himself.
I've also read the book, bracing myself for a let down but in fact I watched the best movie I've watched in my life. It was thrilling and exciting all the way through, kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the fact that an assortment of my favourite actors were used such as Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Orlando Bloom. I loved the little love story between the elf lady and the dwarf, I didn't find it cheesy at all. And the barrel scene, WOW. The effects looked so real. I especially loved in the mountain and the design of smaug was all I expected and more, plus I got to hear Benedict's voice! I'm overall pleased!
watched it on release. definitely one of the best fantasy films i have watch debatable whether its better than the two towers or return of the king but its up there and its close. anyone who criticizes this film for not being like the book, or if you went to the cinema expecting to be disappointed from the start. you clearly wasn't watching the film with an open mind but with the intention to pluck holes at everything. no wonder you didn't enjoy the film. i hear most of the critics say did i read a different book?? too much CGI?? why is their a score for everything?? i mean for starters the book in fairness was overall unfinished and was rushed to please his kids and i bet if Tolkien was alive today when Peter Jackson was doing the films he would have re-written it and elaborated the story even more. making it a bigger book, so in my eyes Peter Jackson and his team have done a great job in giving us a more well rounded story which is starting to tie well with the lord of the rings trilogy. we find why Gandalf leaves the Dwarves, we find out where the ring wraiths were locked up and something powerful free'd them. we are starting to find out why in the fellowship of the ring why Legolas at the start doesn't like Dwarves (meeting in Rivendell). as Legolas likes Tauriel and hates seeing her smiling and flirting with the good looking dwarf. i predict she will die in the 3rd film, in the battle of the five armies. yes their maybe a lot of CGI but in fairness, it hardly ruins it and sets it apart from the lord of the rings trilogy which is a good thing. i mean if Peter Jackson doesn't use the technology he has available to him and used the same method as lord of the rings. you critics would be moaning about how its a rip off lord of the rings, it tries to be lord of the rings and fails. in my eyes Peter Jackson has done well in making it look and feel different, as nothing will ever beat the lord of the rings. overall this film was amazing, watched in HFR 3D and i couldn't believe what my eyes witnessed the only disappointment was leaving the cinema and going back to reality. the ending leaves you wanting more and boy i was gutted it was over. roll on next year for the 3rd one that will blow you critics away. this film is fantasy at its best. can't wait for the extended version of this film to come out on Blu Ray, im sure its going to be better than the original release.
I'm an indian..,i was watched this movie yesterday with subtitles ....,really this movie is fantastic .....what a movie . This is only one i liked in hollywood .
Lord of the rings the Two towers was one of the coolest games ever made. I hope they video version of this installment that's at least on pair with that.
"Why Bilbo Baggins? Maybe because I'm afraid and he give me courage " Regardless of what the critics saying, this scene alone show how much Peter truly understand the spirit of Tolkien's writing.

we find why Gandalf leaves the Dwarves, we find out where the ring wraiths were locked up and something powerful free'd them. we are starting to find out why in the fellowship of the ring why Legolas at the start doesn't like Dwarves (meeting in Rivendell). as Legolas likes Tauriel and hates seeing her smiling and flirting with the good looking dwarf. i predict she will die in the 3rd film, in the battle of the five armies.
yes their maybe a lot of CGI but in fairness, it hardly ruins it and sets it apart from the lord of the rings trilogy which is a good thing. i mean if Peter Jackson doesn't use the technology he has available to him and used the same method as lord of the rings. you critics would be moaning about how its a rip off lord of the rings, it tries to be lord of the rings and fails. in my eyes Peter Jackson has done well in making it look and feel different, as nothing will ever beat the lord of the rings.
overall this film was amazing, watched in HFR 3D and i couldn't believe what my eyes witnessed the only disappointment was leaving the cinema and going back to reality. the ending leaves you wanting more and boy i was gutted it was over. roll on next year for the 3rd one that will blow you critics away.
this film is fantasy at its best.
can't wait for the extended version of this film to come out on Blu Ray, im sure its going to be better than the original release.

Best Sentences In The Trailer
Smaug .. Such a great voice for a such a great character! Goosebumbs! :)
These movies capture the essence of the books well.
What'd you read, the 8 year old kiddies version of the books. The actual Hobbit is a lot different than this toilet paper worthy movie.
***** the Hobbit is a children's book.
"Why Bilbo Baggins? Maybe because I'm afraid and he give me courage "
Regardless of what the critics saying, this scene alone show how much Peter truly understand the spirit of Tolkien's writing.
8/10 from me. Way, way more enjoyable than the first one, although it still feels stretched out.
Agreed it was a bit long but very enjoyable. I too thought it better than the first movie, apart Smeagol obviously :)
Andy Weller I love when movies are long

I love the scene where there is the conversation between Bilbo and Smaug :) "Don't be shy... Step into the light!" Oh I just love that :3 I don't really care about the triology of LOTR, but the Hobbit is just so awesome :3 :) I can't see why some people find it boring, the movie is stuffed with action :3 :) I love that movie :) can't wait for the 3rd part to come out :)

Oh look it's MEE!
Lol T the beginning, Bilbo kissing up trying not to get eaten. Loved it best scene ever. Practically doesn't work, at the end; " what have we done?"
... His name is Bilbo. Omg, I felt like that family was coming apart.
