    There are many videos on how to adjust Facebook privacy settings on TH-cam but this is easily the best with clear and concise instructions. It takes a while to change them all, Facebook don’t make it easy!, but it’s well worth it. Many thanks Leonie :)

    you hit the nail on the head. The language used on facebook for settings is poor & convoluted. Excuse me but I suspect that this was designed "accidentally on purpose".
    This vid is quite helpful. thank you.

    Hi Poppyrred, thanks for stopping by. Some people don't yet have this enabled for them yet, no idea why. It's facial recognition, in which case you haven't been added to the data base yet. The number next to the pictures won't be seen by a stranger (even tho it looks that way), it's how many pics you have. Limit past posts to ensure all your pics and posts are hidden from strangers as per the video.

    Yes it's in the privacy settings video. You need to set your tagging preferences so that you must approve all tagging first on your timeline. However if your friend does tag you on a photo, it will go up on their timeline, they only thing you can do is to request that the tag is taken down, but going to the tag and requesting its removal.

    yes, any friends of your friends will see your posts. That's how Facebook works. They are all about sharing. The privacy settings are to prevent total unconnected strangers from seeing your updates.

    Hi Afans thanks for stopping by. Right now there is no way to hide your name from search in Facebook. Only from other search engines like Yahoo, Bing and Google. You can't stop friend requests on a profile but certainly limit being found by switching off the being found via your email or phone number in privacy settings/Who can look me up. preferences. If you are a public figure, a Page is a better option for you. Switch on follow on your profile and allow people to follow you instead of friend

    yes you have to go to each photo open it in the viewer window go to the top right side of each photo, and click on the friends icon and change to only me or a list you can't do it in a batch. You can set it to a certain list. I have a post on cleaning up your timeline for total privacy which includes the instructions see the About tab above for the link

    The problem is that when your friends "like" or comment on any of your posts, Facebook is designed to share that update with their friends. So that even if you have everything set to friends only or posts to friends only if they interact with your posts, it may go out to their friends updates.

    If you click on the number it will show you all your pics, if you click on the tab though it shouldn't. Your timeline in "View As" shows you what is visible to a stranger

    hello, i watched your video on privacy setting and would like to know how you managed complete privacy from strangers? how can you make you profile page show nothing to people you dont know?

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't hide your profile from Facebook Search engines. If you select the setting to hide your profile from google bing and yahoo, it means when someone googles or searches for your name your Facebook profile won't come up in search results. You can't stop receiving friend requests, but you can certainly ignore the friend requests.

    Hi Leonie, Thanks for the video on advanced privacy settings for FB. I have a quick question on my FB setting. Recently, I have noticed that "Find Friends" option which was there on top of the FB page. But now it is missing. How do I reinstate it?

    • @LeonieSmith
      @LeonieSmith  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say thats just Facebook just moving options around. They try out different things sometimes. I haven't noticed it missing, and don't think it's to do with any particular setting.

    • @sarojnayak8510
      @sarojnayak8510 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leonie Smith I found out.. the "Find Friends" option my hidden under drop down list where we accept friend request. Thank you....

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Go to your Photos and set each to friends only or Only Me. You have to do them one by one. Check your Activity Log from your profile to check your tags, you can ask for them to be removed if you need to do that. Just click on the tag link.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    XtreamerTV when you accept a friend request on Facebook you need to add the friend to the Acquaintance List. Just hover your mouse over the name of the friend and go to settings to add them to Acquaintance. Then you can filter your posts so that some posts go to friends, and others can go to Friends except Acquaintances.

  • @name1136
    @name1136 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Leonie! Do I undertand correctly that now you can not hide profile pics anymore from public? Also if this is the case, does it mean to have it set as FRIENDS ONLY I need to move them one by one to a different album? thank you

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    No I'm afraid not. This can be a huge issue for Pages where companies want to turn comments off, if they have been attacked. Facebook is all about conversations though not broadcasting, so doubt it will ever change. You can of course remove and report comments and profiles that post comments that are offensive. Just hover your cursor over the top right of any comment you want to remove/report and select the options from the downward arrow menu.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    post them publicly, you can also allow subscribers or followers in settings

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use the "Limit past posts" setting I outline in the video through privacy settings, the only photos you will still see are cover pictures and profile picture, delete those out of your cover picture and profile picture album.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Set your message settings to strict Filtering. You will then get messages in your "other" account. You cannot stop people from messaging you. Facebook allow anyone to message you. Go to Privacy Settings/Who can contact you/Set to Strict Filtering.

    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes you need to go to your activity log, and find it there and delete it. You can also go to the photo, and hover your mouse over the top right corner of your comment you should see the edit pencil show up you can delete the comment there

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you post you can set it to public then, it will stay public until you change it back to friends or some other equation

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might like to set up a Page rather than a profile, Pages are fully public. If you have a Profile that is set up for an under 18yr old you won't have the public option. Minor accounts are protected.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it a profile pic? Pictures you upload can be set for only me, but if not, they may not show up in friends timelines if they haven't interacted with your for a while.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen a few people reporting that. May not be rolled out to you yet, but keep an eye on it.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry Sam, I can't help further than the instructions I have given and the link I have pointed to in the description of this post. • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No you can't hide the message button, Facebook used to have a setting so that only friends can contact us via messaging but they changed that this year. Now any messages sent to you by non friends will end up in the "other" tab of your messages page. You can't have private cover pics or profile pics they are set to public by default. You could have a profile pic of another object or cartoon though..

  • @ramonnarula3973
    @ramonnarula3973 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK I will check it out. So basically if I individually remove each photo, I can't have a private album with all my photo's. I understand that I will still be tagged and it will still be on facebook. But those photo's are not viewable personally as as personal photo album like it used to be.. correct?

  • @waqasshah10
    @waqasshah10 11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can put your account into suspension. This means you won't be able to update it until you enable the account again by logging in again. You can set all your updates to only me also, but this only changes your future updates, you would have to go and change all past updates to Only Me, or delete them.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Make sure that you set it to friends or public depending on who you want to comment on the photo.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Ramon, TH-cam doesn't allow links in comments. If you go up to my About under the video the description and click more you can see the link there. or go to my cyber safety lady website and search for clean up your Facebook Timeline. You can have a personal photo album if you open each photo and edit it. Follow the step by step on my blog. You can also review tags and request them removed from your Timeline Review. Hope you find the post helpful

  • @poppyrred
    @poppyrred 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Leonie, in the "how can I manage tags people add and tagging suggestions" there are three extra questions and the last one is(and this is exactly what i see); "Who sees tag suggestions when photos that look like you are uploaded(this is not yet available to you)? Unavailable." Why is it not available to me? Also when I look at View as there is a photo section and then beside photo 1,059. Does this mean that everyone can see the pictures I have been tagged in???!! Thank you!

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes go to profile then "More" on your tabs and then your Likes section if you have it enabled, and hide it. I'll do a post on hiding sections soon. You can hide all your likes and sections if you also go to "About" then the far right of it you can see an edit symbol (the pencil) click to edit sections untick all the ones you want to hide. Only Friends and Photos and About cannot be hidden there, for those you have to do in the other about section.

    Leonie how are you? I have a question. In my facebook I dont have the friends except acquaintances option in the timeline and Tagging. I followed your video correctly. Could you please let me know what I might have checked or is this facebooks problem? thanks

    • @LeonieSmith
      @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Will, can you be more specific, for which setting exactly? some of the settings in Timeline and Tagging only offer "Friends" or "Only Me". Not all settings in Facebook have the same options.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sami, as I said to Suhail, you can't do that now. Facebook used to make that an option that only friends could message you but now anyone can. I know it's annoying. They hide the non friend messages in the "Other" section of the messages panel.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the account you set up has no other friends, and you set your existing friends list to only me, then when any of your friends look at your profile they only see the friends you have in common.

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to set them all to friends only do it in the edit option

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @LeonieSmith
    @LeonieSmith  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Suhail, unfortunately Facebook changed the messaging around 3 months ago. You used to be able to select "only be messaged by friends", but now they have disabled that option. When strangers message you it now goes into the Other folder in messages, it's kind of hidden...but I agree it's really annoying, because the messages you get are really only spam usually! I wish they would reverse it

    Hi Leonie. Thank you for dispelling the myths around FB privacy. I have a quandary for you. I am an admin on a fan page, and wondering if you know a way to make comments private, so only the individual and the admin can view it? My page is a movie quiz, so I need to make it so people don't get influenced by others' answers. Thanks in advance. Adam

    • @LeonieSmith
      @LeonieSmith  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't Facebook no longer have that function. You can set the filter to strict in the privacy settings for message settings so that any spammy messages or messages from non strangers go into the "other" tab so you won't be notified of receiving them. It's good to check that tab from time to time to make sure you haven't missed any important ones. Privacy/Who Can Contact Me/Strict Filtering

      Hiding from Facebook search is no longer possible. The video above shows you how to hide from Google Bing and Yahoo search only. Anyone can find you by putting the name you are known by on Facebook in the Facebook search engine. You used to be able to hide your name but Facebook disabled that this year.

    Excuse me, I am simply not finding what I need here.
    Ms. Smith, do you remember where you showed us the "View As" option? I want to be able to make my profile when viewed by [anyone not a friend] like this: The exact same way as yours, but without my profile picture being visible either. So basically the exact same way yours is, but I just don't want my profile picture seen. Can you please help me?
