I firmly believe Nas is the only rapper of his generation who could (today) go on the insane 5 album run he’s been on. Him and Hit-Boy have perfect rapper-producer chemistry
mr skye, i cannot believe how you always hit the nail on the head with your thoughts. pistols on your album cover is not only the best song here, but imo top 10 nas track. it may just be me watching you for over a year and absorbing a lot of your thoughts but god damn. love you, prof❤️ AVAA
Slow It Down the best track by far of the entire series. Sorry that song is absolutely elite! Pistols on my album cover is nice but not close to slow it down.
Not just 5 albums in a row but 5 albums in his 3rd prime at 50 years old. No one hates you, just a healthy discussion, which might come out hostile because of the passion. The first half of the album is youthful, and the second half is more mature. Hence, the album cover has 2 faces, one from his youth and one from now. Will to give feedback better without you feeling attacked for your opinions.
This by far is the best review of the album I’ve seen, everybody else rushed to make a review immediately after it came out saying it was mid and not as good as the first Magic album🤦♂️. The more really listen to this album, the more I think it might be his best album ever and yes I agree with you possibly better than illmatic too which is really crazy considering how long ago that was and how old Nas is right now, just crazy🔥🐐
Nas father is olu dara..n jazz was his 1st love as far as music goes n played the trumpet as a youngin...he has an extraordinary knowledge on music in general. It makes sense to me he would be familliar with neil young.
Just listened to this album while, this might be a tangent, also listening to Melle Mel's diss track against Eminem. Makes me appreciate Nas being able to flow on modern beats and dont sound dated.
It's a real shame that most rap fans don't ever talk about Tech N9ne even though his discography is massive. No, I'm not saying that their pens are the same but I just wish that his name was at least mentioned since he is very much still active. 20+ albums and even though he doesn't have a "Stillmatic"... His influence is UNDENIABLE.
I felt the same way about Nas, another album. Absolutely no skips. That's very hard for me to do and yet I just treat like it's nothing because it's nas and I'm used to it. I get why some artists wait so long now, I honestly think he might need a break. I've never seen anyone play nas at all and it's too bad.
Hey professor skye, I’ve been watching your reviews for a really long time. Just curious if you’ve ever heard of the artist Youth Lagoon. I just got into them with their latest release because my girlfriend showed me. they’re rated pretty highly on pitchfork (if that means anything to you). It’s also their first album in years after a throat injury. Would recommend, reminds me of Dylan but with a modern edge. Anyway, amazing video as always!
Hi Mr Skye, love the video, AVAA! you mentioned around 30 minutes in about voodoo and the Haitians having to burn their skin off to make sugar for rich Austrian's to have profiteroles - what is this referring to? Is it the Haitian revolution? when you said it it piqued my interest, but I tried googling it and didn't come up with much - could you enlighten me about this? Also, hope you enjoy the 50 Years of Hiphop concert!
I was being rather poetic there. I was commenting on the fact that Haitian slaves harvested sugar, which was very painful. The sugar was largely imported to Europe where they created many of the sweet treats we still love today.
Hey, here's a thought about the hip-hop/rap thing. I never understood why people insist on calling "rap" a genre. Rap is a way of enunciating lyrics, just like singing is saying lyrics with notes and rhythm. Hip-Hop is clearly a genre. I guess you can group together all the songs that have rap on them and call it a genre, but does that make sense? This also starts a second discussion about what genre means. For me, it's some sort of sum of "production paradigm" and "cultural space". I'd love to read anyone's thoughts on this. Have a great day :)
Slow It Down by far is the best song in this series. One of the 3 best hip hop songs I ever heard. Pistols on your album cover is nice but Slow It Down puts all these projects together. So many Gems and subliminal line’s it’s absolutely amazing. 10/10 song.

Exactly. I also believe the 2 faces old and new is for Magic 1 older sound and Mafic 2 new sound, also literally 2 faces for BM2.

Mr Skye for the record, us Nas supporters are not called Escobites. We are called Nasirians, Nasarites or Escobarians😂😂😂
