Hey! I also love to try to identify antennas. I live not so far from you in SF and I take 280 every to the South Bay. I see lot of ham antennas along the way
Thanks for the video. It helped me to understand APRS more. I'm surprised that there weren't more Hams operating mobile. Maybe I'm more of a freak than I realize.
This was a good video. I am a relatively new ham and I have that exact radio that I purchased because of the cost and the functions on it. Of course I haven’t learned too much about APRS but this one really help me to get inspired to try to learn more about how to use my radio.
One of my buddies got the ft400 and after seeing what it could do I felt my d710 was inferior. D710's have gotten almost impossible to get, prices have gone up because of the Chip factory in Japan.
Hi Josh, awesome video! I do the same thing when I travel: always try to identify antennas and what they are used for. I have been doing that all my radio life (45yrs)!!! My wife thinks I'm crazy hahaha. 73's ! Oh, btw. I live in Tri-valley, not so far from you!
Hi Josh, nice video! I like my FTM-100D, although it is a little disappointing that it's not a true "dual bander" in that it can't monitor two frequencies at once. I wanted the C4FM, though and, like you, didn't want to to go all in for the FTM-400 (although typing here right now, I can't say that if that rig does have that feature). Otherwise, I would have gone for the Kenwoood TM-D710GA. Oh well. You seem like someone that would bring along a scanner on a road trip, too!
Thank you for the video. Living here in NW Wyoming, our APRS coverage is hit and miss (mostly miss), but I am fascinated by the distance I receive other APRS mobiles... sometimes hundreds of miles. The population and traffic here is of course, nothing like you have in the Bay area. Our youngest boy was stationed at Alameda until recently, when transferred to Germany. I could never bring myself to drive to Alameda... although my wife and I have taken AMTRAK a few times into California. I don’t know how people can live in such populated areas, but, to each his own. Adios! A subscriber
At the time it seemed like a better idea. There was road construction going on. If not for the road construction I think the route I chose would have been best. In retrospect, yes, I could have made better choices. Glad to see someone really watching the video!!
Hi Josh , enjoyed your video greatly. Taking my Technician license test in a couple weeks. Don’t understand aprs fully yet ? What packets was you sending? Thanks look forward to your other videos .
fun. turn on "smart beaconing" and you can set the parameters as to when/or under what conditions the radio will tx a beacon (e.g. turn more than 10 degrees, speed up/slow down, etc.)
I wear a seat belt for myself. To keep my dog from going through the windshield in the event of an accident she is put in her crate. Because she is crate trained it also keeps her calm during long car rides.
He started talking more about his van, equipment than what we need to do, which is misleading. We want to know what to talk, whom to talk and how to talk after we got fresh license.

Thanks for making this and sharing it. I love seeing what hams are up to.
Totally agree about road trips and what type of radio to bring. I go through the same thing. Most of the time it's an aprs and HF type trip.
I’m in WA state, we have the hilarious tree towers too 😂😂. Great video, thank you for sharing!

Maybe a Bigfoot disguise for cell phone tower.
I thought I was the only one who liked to look at antennas.
Great video 👍 thank you for taking us alongside lol

Any particular reason for going thru town instead of taking the 92 over to the 880 and up?

if you ever want to build a go box let me know that what i do with all my gear and i can give you some advice or hard cases to get to build one
I like your Video, and of course your dog too. Thanks. 73 DL8BJ
Hey thanks for the video - does this radio have an internal gps? Can you do other APRS functions like messaging, etc with it?
Yes, it does have an internal GPS.

Hello, could you ask me a question? Is this radio made in China or Japan?
fun. turn on "smart beaconing" and you can set the parameters as to when/or under what conditions the radio will tx a beacon (e.g. turn more than 10 degrees, speed up/slow down, etc.)
why put the dog in the cage?
