    I heard my name in there somewhere ;) One of the biggest PRO's -- at least for me -- that you left out, was the humbling experience of being a digital nomad. Being from America, I never truly realized how much I actually took for granted. Traveling around the world, okay..only Europe so far, has made me appreciate a lot more and value things I never have. Brotherhood, community, love for each other, letting go of materialistic things & being a minimalist. The experiences I've had while being a digital nomad are impossible to get anywhere else. Even watching vlogs cannot convey the range of emotions you'll experience and share with other's on your journey. I know I don't convey that in mine that I share either.

    Hey Aly, thanks for the 2 months. I've been thinking about learning something, anything online now for a while. That was the push I needed. Good move to pair with them :)

    Thank you so much for the Skillshare gift! I was literally looking at it today and decided I couldn't afford it so was going to wait a few months. I'm just starting on my first big trip as a digital nomad and so far the biggest PRO has to be inspiring other people to want to do it. I'm meeting lots of people on their 1 or 2 week leave trying to cram everything in and I'm all like "oh I'm going to sleep in today because I am literally here for a month". Biggest CON is FOMO -- I haven't quite gotten the balance of work/social/sightseeing yet and find myself either missing out on great things to sit in my hostel working, or skipping on work to hang out with new friends or see the city I'm in. Also the fact that I'm working on a very old iPad that takes ages to do anything, so my $6 writing gig took me 6 hours to finish...

    I've worked on the beach, I've an anti-glare screen - you can just get a stick on thing, I got the same for my phone. It was one of my goals for going independent :) I still work everywhere else - pool, nice cafe, airbnb, wherever I want or need. But sure it means I can then take sunrise treks up volcanos or spend the day diving. We all manage our time differently, I did spend the first few months working more, I just changed some stuff, I binge work - so long days which gives me more time off! Also I don't need to work as much as a full time job because costs are lower and I can enjoy my life more :) Not selling any course - we all just work differently. I'd still rather my way of working than working in an office. Each to their own!

    Do you actually have to pay taxes in the UK or elsewhere? 😮

    • @remotedarren
      @remotedarren 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As with any tax advice, you should always speak to an accountant but most people pay taxes to their home country. So, if your income goes into your UK bank account, then you should legally pay taxes on this income with the HMRC.

    Great video. I hate when people try and portray the lifestyle that you spend your time sat on the beach working with a cocktail. Sorry, but I sit in my apartment (+ sometimes a coffee shop) 8-10 hours a day, working. That's the reality, but due to this lifestyle I am able to work those hours when I want to, so, get to explore the places I'm staying in.

    Have you ever considered creating your own "how to become a digital nomad" course? It could be a good source of extra income. I know I would pay for it, and I'm sure a lot of others would as well.

    It's not the job that makes one location dependent. It's family, kids education and well being, elderly parents more than a job IMHO.

      Totally agree, which is why it's always important to have a backup. I have a 4G Mifi that is unlocked and should the internet go down in my apartment, I have this as a backup. Just purchase a data SIM card and away you go.
