Just recently got more serious about rolling quality, vintage preamp tubes in and out of my guitar amp and just want to say that I have been enjoying the content of your videos. Good stuff! 👍 So far, I'm really liking the Tungsram ECC83, after using a late 50's Baldwin-branded Raytheon Black Plate for the past few months. Both are VERY nice compared to the contemporary tube makes. Next up will be a GE-branded Mullard I63 Blackburn, like the tube you've shown here in this video.
Awesome man! Enjoy the tube rolling, its sooo much fun. And the reason i've made this channel is to deliver videos i wanted to see myself when I started to tube roll back then. So here you can have some info and comparison clips to see what you can go for :) enjoy!
Hi, thanks for your great channel. May I ask you a question? I have been doing a lot of research to replace the preamp tubes in my Fender Blues Junior guitar amp. Thanks to your videos i can clearly hear that 1960s Mullards are more pleasing to my ears than the JJs that I was thinking of getting. Now I have 2 Blackburn 1960s Mullards and a 1969 Brimar on the way from eBay. In this amp v3 is the phase inverter - do you have any recommendations for which ones I should put in which positions? Eg Brimar in the v3 PI socket and v1 and v2 both Mullard?
there are a few types within the mullard range from blackburn: mc1(the holy grail),f91,f92 long plates 1956-1959 great for bassman or any tweed amp i61 short plates 1959-1964 the perfect v1 tube for any guitar amp to my opinion i63 short plates 1964-1975 more low mids and less highs than the previous models perfect for bright amps and overdrive channels. as for brimars the best is the 6057 yellow t, cv4004 are great as well for guitar amps.
Im trying to get my hands on the holy grail one day! Im big into long plates, just love the sound :) I just got recently a yellow print short plated Mullard from 1964, sounds amazing! :)
@@ecc8344 that would be the i62 which sounds in the middle of i61 and i63 , i have one on my 1974x. f91 and f92 costs less than mc1 and sound very similar .what's your amp?
I have a Mazda tube that says Made in England BVA, which confused me because when I search online I see that Mazda is made in France. Ah, so now I can assume I have a Brimar. Thanks for the info
Mazda rebranded lot of tubes beside making their own, i think the "silver/chrome plates" is the only true 12ax7 made by Mazda, France. What you have is Brimar, great tube anyways, similar to Mullard but bit more bright sounding.
Thanks for your videos, regards from England

Most Brimar valves were made in Footscray, Kent or Edmonton. Also associated factories owned by STC, Thorn, EMI made them.
Thank you for your info :)

I've found a Brimar e83cc. Do you know if it's any different then ecc83? Is it still good for a guitar amp?
Hi there! E83CC is usally higher grade version of ECC83 so should be fantastic in your amp :)
