On the large diameter pieces, We drill a couple of 1/8" holes in each section of bamboo otherwise it wont sink without a lot of concrete. one at the base and the other at the top of each section This lets the trapped air out.
My Opinion on using Bamboo instead of Plastic Pipe is that Bamboo is Snag City. Yes it can be Cheaper but it is harder to obtain depending where you live. Plastic Pipe is Snag Free and does not Deteriorate like Bamboo will in time. That's just my Opinion.🤔
