Joseph Heatherly - Ms. Ochota, unlike some on the show, actually did work in a relevant field: anthropology (Emmanuel college, Cambridge). She was on the show one season (No. 19, 2002). Your public fetishising of her chest does nothing but bring shame to your heritage.
He said the Girl brought nothing to the show, that's what he said, he was right, i never watched these because of her and i'm just a normal Chap who likes history
It was a great show however please do not blame Mary-Ann Ochota. If you look her up in wikipedia you will see that she is a smart person but when you join a show just as with any job your abilites may not be used and your intelligence demoted to make others (and their egos) look more important. You see *some* of the males are quite good at pontificating their opinions .
I’m not liking New Girl, Mary-Ann. She is listed in other places as “Presenter” for Time Team. She doesn’t seem to have any Archaeological training and she just wants to smile her way through each episode. Tony is our Presenter and this Mary-Ann needs to step aside.
The producers let go of very well educated people, Dr. Helen & Stuart, who provided a lot of info & insight.. Apparently the executives were anxious about something. I'm glad Professor Mick resigned afterwards, standing his ground for what is right.
I love the way these archeologists find a fragment of broken pottery and it is the missing piece of evidence they needed, and from this 1inch square piece of pottery that is covered in mud, so it could be a stone, they can tell it came from a jug and instantly know the complete history of the area. Or by looking at the radar printout, they know this was a two story building. How do they do that? "They found an ornate stone that obviously fell off the building". It doesn't seem too obvious to me.
David Edwards It's due little things called "education", "experience", and "expertise". These are the things that the incompetent among us try to sell as "worthless".
because building high walls back then meant building thick walls, building thick and high walls means building deep and thick foundations. to be 2 story it gotta be relatively high.
Mary Ann wasn't hired for her archeological knowledge and skills, as evident in the tight, knit green top at 19:50. Wow, they sure dumb-downed the show with Mary Ann and Alex (who I really liked in the BBC various Farm series). I miss Helen, Stewart, John, and Victor. R.I.P., Mick and Robin.

For Gallen Gregory's benefit who thinks if we don't spell like he does people must be morons.... Etymology (ie where a word originates from) From: Middle English hous, hus, from Old English hūs (“dwelling, shelter, house”), from Proto-Germanic *hūsą, of unknown origin. Cognate with Scots hoose. Noun hoose (plural hooses) 1.(Geordie and Scotland) house
Sadly all the poor changes in time team just ruined it for so many. We loved the original characters and the way it had always been. They should have left well alone.
Christian Patriot by not being used and desanctified it just became another building for taking stone from. The chapel here was only a chapel of ease and noy used at all times, only when the hunting lodge was in use. At all other times you would have to go the church in Clipstone (this location is in Kings Clipstone) or Edwinstowe (where legend has it that Robin and Marian married). It fell out of use when the hunting lodge fell out of use.
if tony had been around in king johns day he would have been the sheriff of nottingham and phil would have been little john ie john little who apparently was real
For all the episodes I’ve watched I still can’t understand why just 3 three days why they do fantastic work but don’t carry out onthe history they touch on but don’t carry thru
As said above, they all had day jobs at various universities, this was a weekend gig. Additionally, the crew was huge, over 70, so 3 days limits the enormous cost and allows for more episodes. There's also the PR factor; many times the crew would blaze in on a Thursday, doubling the population of whatever little village they were invading with trucks and diggers and a helicopter, emptying the pub of food and generally upending life. Not overstaying a welcome is important to run a show for 20+ years.
Kathy Long Thirdly, this is survey archaeology- that’s a thing. They were never intended to do the full-on, months-long excavation. That would be done by the county archaeology society, or E.H.
It comes down to time & money. They'd never be able to completely cover a site in a reasonable time. Some sites can take decades to get the whole story. Then the cost would be unpredictable, you never know what you might run into. They wanted to produce a weekly, one hour TV show, not two hours or more documentaries. The show is basically like one of their one meter square test pits. It's down & dirty archeology, go in, get what you can & get out with a basic idea of what's there. This way, they can spread themselves wider & cover a lot more sites. Which is a more effective use of their resources.
When I heard that Channel 4 had cancelled Time Team, one of my all time favourite shows, I was horrified, even when Mick Aston had announced he had quit the show I still thought it a terrible decision. Having watched this episode though I have completely reversed that opinion. This episode is just dreadful, the archaeology content is minimal, the two new presenters in particular are awful and totally detract from the show. Why did he spend all that time hacking plaster off that woman's wall? What was that ever going to achieve even if it was a medieval wall (which I still think was questionable)? Mick, Tony and even Phil seemed deflated and even disinterested throughout. Very poor.
I don't think the new people every really had a chance to "fit in" to the team. After Robin died, they brought in Sam Houston, but I think they wanted more than just history, so he started doing performance art as well. I think that may have detracted; at least it did for me. Loved what he brought up to that point in each episode. Then they lost Stewart Ainsworth, and I don't think that Alex Langsworth ever really fulfilled that role well. I also think that they totally underutilized Stewart's skillset. How many times when on the brink of archaeology failure did Stewart save the day? Maybe they did that for dramatic effect?
He does play guitar, but his life is digging. He works for Wessex Archeology, although as he is now 68, he may have retired. If you watch the whole series, you will see him as one of the hardest working members of the team, through rain and mud and even diving. Truly amazing.
I would dearly like to know how much each cast member got paid for all their hard work, as well as the overall budget of each episode (which I've read was around 200k pounds per episode), and the overall worth of the whole franchise. I mean, they ruined the formula of the show in the later seasons by getting rid of essential experts. Perhaps it was to save money and skimp on the budget? I know, I know... crazy speculation on my part... but I can still fantasize... what if someone with the money and a love of history had stepped in and bought the series completely from Wildfire or whoever owned it at the time, and stuck with the original formula? Just pure daydreaming on my part to be sure.... but worth thinking about. I get the impression that Mick was getting paid a pittance, (as well as most of the others) and they were doing it just for the sheer love of preserving English history and trying to reach out to a younger generation of British kids. My heart really goes out to the heroes of Archaeology. God Bless 'Em. They got my love and respect to the end.
+APIEngineering You probably noted, as I did, little things like the crew having to wear hardhats on certain sites but not others (and the fact that Phil's never seems to fit). I've noticed as I've gone through and annotated every episode with the geo. coordinates, how well they restore the sites. Who does that? How much did it cost? What percentage of their budget was earmarked for it? Inquiring minds want to know!
Mick Aston said he never maid much money but he loved educating people. That was his motivation for sticking with it as long as possible. I suspect the other archaeologist stuck with it also not for the money but for the love of their trade and to make a name for themselves, which would certainly help them furthering their careers.
Vince White alcohol is actually a depressant. You may feel cheerful while actually drunk, but after it wears off it leaves the depressant effects behind.
What is with the obsession regarding Robin Hood? It is known that no such person existed, and neither did Loxley. Rather, it is believed he was a villain from Wetherby, Yorkshire, or some such place, for whom there is a record to purchase chains, etc., to keep him in custody. His name was Robert Hood.
Wotdermatter Lack of evidence is not the same as evidence of lack. There is no proof he existed, just theory, but you can't prove a negative, so it cannot be known he didn't exist. The is no concrete evidence that a lot of historical 'figures' existed, just lots of cenjecture (for example King Arthur) but that doesn't detract from their popularity, similarly Robin Hood.
Ian B Such a good reply! Sometimes stories and legend have partial basis in fact or distorted history, and people are interested in piecing together where folklore comes from. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as people are willing to accept that things might not be as their preconceptions have led them to think.
1st. Robin is used to this day as a nick name for Robert. 2. Loxley is actually Lockesly, which was a town in England and when you check further, Robin Hood was called Robert De Lockesly, which simply means Robert of Lockesly. There is in existence a court record from 1245 showing where 1 Robert De Lockesly appeared before the court. There is reason to believe that Hood came from Robehod. This was a title that was given to someone who was declared Outlaw.
John Burnett I saw the show but as far as I remember the name Robert not Robin was the name used. There is no historical record of Robin Hood regardless of whether people twist the facts and are nicknames or alternative names such as Jack for John, etc. I have checked the names out using historical records and that is how I know. When in the Royal Navy, I was stationed at Wetherby and checked there. That is how I came to find Robert not Robin and he never was at Nottingham.

It's pretty well-known that Mick didn't like the changes that were made, and as for the woman with the big teeth, she has a master's degree in archaeology and one in anthropology. What have you got?
Actually both Alex and Mary have respectible education and were not that terrible, its just a shame how short sided the producers were, as far as I have found on net that rating decline was because someone in charge wasnt interested and simply slowly drove the show out of the table. Sad really, but as far as I can see the core team is still going strong with impressive careers so its not because of them. I see the old team as good scolars and trailblazers really

Joseph Heatherly s
King John died of dysentery after drinking local monks special brew, three days later. What a way to go.
Was here Dec 2019
That was such a small deer! Ugh!
Roe deer...
Overlooked artifact in the ground at 24:06. Looks like a key.
Bring back Helen!
So they robbed everything but left the three standing walls?
These buildings were heavily scavenged upon.
Tony learned a new word and Marianne ruins another episode.
I’m not liking New Girl, Mary-Ann. She is listed in other places as “Presenter” for Time Team. She doesn’t seem to have any Archaeological training and she just wants to smile her way through each episode. Tony is our Presenter and this Mary-Ann needs to step aside.
21:44 RIP field marker
39:40 I had to back up three times to hear what they were saying. I was tripping on the potato-rocks.
Tony slapped Phil with calling his trench "Barren" and "Desultory." (An adjective
lacking a plan, purpose, or enthusiasm.)
Desultory seems to me to imply conscious intent, or lack thereof. I don't think rocks can have intent....
These guys rag each other all the time. It’s all part of the show.
The producers let go of very well educated people, Dr. Helen & Stuart, who provided a lot of info & insight.. Apparently the executives were anxious about something. I'm glad Professor Mick resigned afterwards, standing his ground for what is right.
Who else immediately thought: garden folly?
If you had half the education and experience they have, you'd see the same value in the finds.
Dumbing down episode of Time Team. The producer cut his own throat - sad. RIP Mick.
+Valentine Valentine It wasn't Tim Taylor, the producer. It was the bean-counters at Channel 4 who tried to 'liven up' the show.
I had no idea Mick Aston died in 2013 :(
..where do we begin??
Great to see the sexiest of all the historians here, Alex Langlands♥️
I'm a Peter Ginn fan myself...lol.
...yes, good to see the man who helped destroy Time Team
Now I can see why Mick left the show.
So you guys wasted a bunch of time cause you couldn't be bothered to do some checking around first. Don't get me wrong, I love the show
Mary Ann wasn't hired for her archeological knowledge and skills, as evident in the tight, knit green top at 19:50. Wow, they sure dumb-downed the show with Mary Ann and Alex (who I really liked in the BBC various Farm series). I miss Helen, Stewart, John, and Victor. R.I.P., Mick and Robin.
or do I mean phill.???
I'm still trying to work out how she is beautiful, i live in Poland, every other girl here is more beautiful than her, and older Women
King John was not good man,
He had his little ways,
And sometimes no one spoke to him
For days and days and days....
Does Mick ever take his cap off?
Tv is wierd. At 46:00 tony is talking to lady and walks away. But u can see here in background just standing there. He like ledt her in the middke of an empty field to just....stand there lol
Then he invites everyon3 for a burger and everyone's like😊yaaaay yaaaay while she's just still back there lol
For Gallen Gregory's benefit who thinks if we don't spell like he does people must be morons....
Etymology (ie where a word originates from)
From: Middle English hous, hus, from Old English hūs (“dwelling, shelter, house”), from Proto-Germanic *hūsą, of unknown origin. Cognate with Scots hoose.
Noun
hoose (plural hooses)
1.(Geordie and Scotland) house
Sadly all the poor changes in time team just ruined it for so many. We loved the original characters and the way it had always been. They should have left well alone.
That woman at 5:00 *laughs in Brittish*
Did someone put the sod on top of the existing walls? Why??? Looks nice, some purpose?
They do that to help stabilize the ruin and protect it from freezing & thawing damage; I learned that from watching Time Team.
Why would the chapel ever have been demolished unless it was part of a monastery that Henry VIII went after?
Those protestants have a lot to answer for dont they
Christian Patriot by not being used and desanctified it just became another building for taking stone from. The chapel here was only a chapel of ease and noy used at all times, only when the hunting lodge was in use. At all other times you would have to go the church in Clipstone (this location is in Kings Clipstone) or Edwinstowe (where legend has it that Robin and Marian married). It fell out of use when the hunting lodge fell out of use.
...oh, the new people are on this one.... ugh... 19:11 Mick trying to make it work but, the end of the show loomed on the horizon
So, the descendants of those pesky peasants and rabble robbed John’s little palace for their garden walls and their drainage ditches...
Can anyone tell me why stewart left the show?
I love a good hunting lodge.
Episodes 12 and 13 are missing. Still coming soon?
Only made 12 episodes for season 19 along with 2 compilations.
+uw1955 I can't find episode 5 and 6 either.
jormot episodes 5, 6, 7 are on TH-cam now
if tony had been around in king johns day he would have been the sheriff of nottingham and phil would have been little john ie john little who apparently was real
I believe john little is buried in papplewick a few miles south of that site fyi.
For all the episodes I’ve watched I still can’t understand why just 3 three days why they do fantastic work but don’t carry out onthe history they touch on but don’t carry thru
It was because they had jobs so had to fit it in over a slightly long weekend. Also it adds dramatic effect
Medieval Cement blocks ?

"Phil?"
"YO."
XD
Mick Aston 8 years passed on
I would be happy with a cow shed,
Desultory,,,,,.....,.without plan,purpose or enthusiasm!
Where the Sam Hill is Stewart?????
Julie Chi the Ch 4 morons axed him, Helen, and Victor.
They extrapolate an awful lot from very little
does anyone know if Phil plays classical guitar?
I think he must do, because he obviously doesn't do much digging with clean finger nails like that !!!
He does play guitar, but his life is digging. He works for Wessex Archeology, although as he is now 68, he may have retired. If you watch the whole series, you will see him as one of the hardest working members of the team, through rain and mud and even diving. Truly amazing.
What accent does Phil have? I mean what part of Great Britain is he from?
he is from Wiltshire
36:38 Dutch army jacket
He wears it many, many episodes 👍
Dutch Army Jacket = cheap, durable surplus
Tony is depressed. He needs more beer!
Vince White alcohol is actually a depressant. You may feel cheerful while actually drunk, but after it wears off it leaves the depressant effects behind.
...he has to work with Mary Ann and Alex so....
考古学は魅力的です、掘るのはひどいでしょう
IT'S NOT A FUCKING PALACE, TONY!!!!!!!
Ian B
Such a good reply!
Actually, Tony Robinson did a documentary on Robin Hood, and he there is enough evidence to suggest that he did exist.
That is how I came to find Robert not Robin and he never was at Nottingham.
have you noticed that some of the people who used to work for time team had gone channel 4 had got the woman with the big teeth to work on time team thats why mick aston had left and some of the others had left as well
It's pretty well-known that Mick didn't like the changes that were made, and as for the woman with the big teeth, she has a master's degree in archaeology and one in anthropology. What have you got?

Also *Mary-Ann* left when *Mick* did.
Forget desultory. I'll give Mary Ann some points for using the word mardy:
wordhistories.net/2017/09/06/origin-of-mardy/
Actually both Alex and Mary have respectible education and were not that terrible, its just a shame how short sided the producers were, as far as I have found on net that rating decline was because someone in charge wasnt interested and simply slowly drove the show out of the table. Sad really, but as far as I can see the core team is still going strong with impressive careers so its not because of them. I see the old team as good scolars and trailblazers really
@@birnamagnusdottir5189 Mary Ann has a degree in Anthropology, and Alex is an experimental archeologist, look for some of his other shows aka the Farm series
I have been and Im quite impressed
Plus I watched the whole victorian farm and medieval castle secrets
@@birnamagnusdottir5189 I love Alex, Peter and Ruth they make a good team.
