One of my favorites is the Energizer batteries in Alan Wake. You know, the game where your batteries last three seconds before they run out of juice. Great marketing choice. 😂
Hahaha yeah that was strange
Good call! I love that too
Must've been taken out in the remastered version, because that's the one I finished.
@@iyeetsecurity922 Yeah they removed it for the remaster. There was a TV commercial for Energizer you could watch in the original I think they removed, as well
Happy 2025 everyone, Hope you all had a great time in December. Personally, the family and I have all been crazy ill passing it between each other everytime someone else got better :P
Thankfully we are all better now, and even though I didn't do much of any editing during December I was able to do a whole lotta scripting. So expect to see some pretty in-depth videos on the channel over the next month or so :)
Thanks for all your support over 2024 guys, sending love to you all for 2025.

@@slopesgameroom glad you’re all better now. I was the same, first Christmas I can remember being ill like that. Was definitely a strong bug going about towards the end of last year
@@tonywhite3835 yeah, it was a heavy month for sure. glad to be back on it with an army of scripts to start editing
Chap- Where is Pepsi-man???? His whole game and Fighting Vipers!!!
Sonic: "No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me"
"And that your Honor is the defendants statement"
I bought a Monster for the first time ever because of Death Stranding.
It was absolutely vile.
Amen, tried that shit once, never again.
@@Cheerfuljochanthe juice versions are better than the basic blue and green ones by a mile
see my issue with the intergalactic trailer having the product placement is that its a TRAILER, if it was only in the full game and not marketing material then it would be a lot less frustrating
I hope you also have this view with car games, hope they will hide the licensed car logos next time in trailers just for you
@@JonneBackhausThe point of a car game is to drive cool cars from the real world. The point of a character action game (what I think Interstellar is?) is the action, not driving real life vehicles. The entire trailer was literally just a pre-recorded FMV as well, and knowing modern Naughty Dog it won't release for a solid 5-8 years. They had no reason to include the product placement so prominently in the cinematic trailer of a sci-fi character action game set thousands of years in the future on an alien system. It doesn't make any sense in universe or out outside of corporate greed.
The Porsche logo I get, honestly; it's showing that this world is an extension of the modern real world, and that's cool; it helps sell the idea and thus the game. But the bright lit-up Adidas logo was a bit much for me.
@@KrimsonKattYT well actually they also work as advertisements some brands actively seek out to be in grand turismo / nfs games (whilest some do not: porsche being mostly ruf in games)
@@KrimsonKattYT so its ok to have real life brands for building the world in something like bladerunner but a porsche ship in a game is what breaks the camels back
I still have a copy of Darkened Skye on my shelf. I've always been a big RPG fan and I picked it up cheap just because it looked half decent. Imagine my confusion when I started playing it and found the first "magic item". I actually joked that it looked like a skittle, and then the plot started and I actually groaned and facepalmed when I found out they were actually supposed to be skittles and that I had unknowingly bought a marketing game.
And that's not to say I have anything against these sorts of games, I have fond memories of playing Cool Spot and Zool as a kid, but it was so cringey that I don't think I ever got more than an hour into the game.
“You play coke music for a room of about 25 people” oh I don’t need a video game to do that I’ve done that plenty
25? Pfff, if I count myself as one, then for me could be up to… one!
The best part about the Nokia ad in Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure (1:06) was that this is the same game that features the song "Sell Out" 😆
I will say that me loved that dumb sponsored mission you did. Seeing the combined jingle/corny dance scene at then end of it was great. It did make me many years later want to get myself my own Nokia lol
This is why i love Dj Slope. I had no idea this was something i would want to learn about until i start learning about!
Thanks so much for this comment. Yes I know this is super niche. But I'm so happy that so many people find this interesting
When it comes to product placement games, the first one that immedeately comes to mind is Crazy Taxi. KFC, Levis, Pizza Hut... And, of course, there's also Pepsiman (PS1).
Cool spot 😎 is the first that comes to my mind
@@brianthomas8411 That game is great. The sequel was alright, I guess (Spot Goes to Hollywood).
Why crazy Taxi?
@@Ynot_maker Because it's probably one of the most well known exemples of product placement in video games. And having The Offspring and Bad Religion songs part of its soundtrack also makes the game so memorable.
I love the Pepsiman Videogame. The Song is so catchy and the Cutscence are funny too.
That was not the Kool-Aid game I had on the Intellivision! The one I had started as a kid in a big house, collecting water, a pitcher and a kool-aid packet. You avoided monsters while you did so, and you were on a timer. If you collected everything, you summoned Kool-Aid Man, and then had to go catch the monsters. It was pretty fun, all things told!
I remember back around 2008 or so when City of Heroes changed some of the in-game billboards from showing fictional in-universe ads to being paid advertisements for real world products. This went over about as well as a lead balloon, and got discontinued within months.
Superfrog's developers, Team17, also made the Worms games, which mostly didn't have product placement, except Red Bull was an item in Worms 3D, which literally gave you wings and worked fine with the silly vibe of the game, and a weapon in Worms Armageddon called Mike's Carpet Bomb, a reference to a local carpet shop that they put in workout consulting the owners, who objected to it, so it was simply called the "carpet bomb" in the sequel. This always seemed very silly to me, because they branded themselves as "the famous Mike's Carpets", but this was the only claim to fame they ever had and they didn't like it
I'm assuming they more objected to the "bomb" part.
The fact that there are 3 product placementes and no gameplay in a damn teaser is the really outrageous part I think
Pizza Hut in TMNT 2 for NES was perfect IMO
Yep, I completely agree
Having the Turtles like pizza was one of the slickest moves on the part of the developers of the IP. The partnerships make themselves at that point.
that makes sense, they do love their pizza
@@scottydu81 You mean the two guys who wrote the original comic books? I don't know that they were thinking that far ahead.
@ I’m not sure they did that. I think the pizza thing was when they gave the idea to networks.
As a long time fan, I’m honored that you used my Global Gladiators cover in your video :D keep up the awesome work man! Love your channel
Ahhhhh wow. Thanks for commenting matey.
I did try and reach out but your Facebook doesn't have a way to contact you directly.
Regardless. Excellent cover from a super nostalgic OST :D
I remember playing Maniac Mansion as a kid, as well as the Atari version of California Games, and having the product placement in both blew my mind. I loved that the tentacle will only allow you to move forward if you give him a Pepsi. Personally, I think the only thing worse than product placement in a show or movie is when they have to alter logos because they couldn't get the license. My "favorites" are Nostle Oranch, Ouisp cereal with the mascot having blackened out teeth, and of course Let's Potato Chips. Say what you will for obvious sponsorships, they don't take me out of the show nearly as much as a fake product killing any level of realism.
To be honest, I never noticed that Ripply wore Reebok in Aliens. I always watch for the aliens vs marines and Ripply vs the queen.
Yeah, they didn't center the frame on the Reebok logo in Aliens, like they did in that video game ad with Adidas (the shoe brand founded by Nazi Adolf "Adi" Dassler).
@@KasumiKenshirou you can't SERIOUSLY claim that trumptards and tate/epstein fans who hate on Intergalactic would be AGAINST hitler!
me and my best friend had SOAP shoes. But we did agressive inline skating too so being able to practice grinds wherever or test new spots to go to was great.
I kind of understand why the Skittles game was a dark fantasy adventure. Back in the late 90's & throughout the half of the 2000's there were these ads set in a weird fantastical world where people summon a rainbow that drops skittles.
_"Taste the rainbow"_ always sounded like some kind of psychidslic reference to me
Licensed games were so weird in hindsight. Like all those McDonalds games. Could you imagine paying full price for a game about Ronald McDonald these days? Hell, the freaking RED DOT from the 7-Up logo had multiple video games. That's like buying a game where the main character is the Blue Tick from Facebook.
My biggest grievance with the Intergalactic trailer isn't that the product placement exists but that it's 3 brand drops in a 1 minute trailer. That's a LOT.
Also being set so far in the future, why wouldn't fictional brands fit better?
Product placement can be done well when it's thematically viable. For the new naughty dog game who's name escapes me, I can't imagine hundreds of years from now porsche making spaceships nor adidas sneakers being fashion or a CD player with hundreds of licensed tracks. Maybe if they explain in the game why they exist and is she some kind of retro future hipster...
I can fully imagine that a skateboarder would drive a jeep and use a Nokia phone (an example from tony hawk's project 8)
Exactly. Context matters. If this was a racing game, I wouldn't bat an eye if a Porsche or other high end sports car were prominently shown in the trailer because that's what I would expect and that's why people would be interested since its a racing game. It's unnecessary for it to be displayed as prominently as it is in the trailer as it comes off as an impromptu ad. If it was more subtle about it like a small detail in the game like an easter egg or listed it's description/shown in a log or in extra materials within the game then I wouldn't be so against it.
Iv'e wanted a pair of Soap shoes since I first played Sonic Adventure 2. I've had it as a saved term on ebay for like fifteen years, juuuust in case I ever dive in and get some. And probably break me ankles haha.
Kinda wild how the rail mechanic went from somethin' with product placement added to it to a basic part of a lot of future 3D and 2D platform games.
I was quite late with the whole discovery of those shoes. but yeah, I would defo like to try them out
I remember wanting those soooo badly in the early 00s. My mom never got me them cuz she knew I'd break a ankle lol
Kit Kat bars must be healthy because that's the only thing sold at the hospital
Hahaha yeah, I was gonna add that but couldn't find a high quality image
What a game though :)
I was a hardcore Coke Studios player back in the day, it had a ton of tie ins from Batman Begins, Shark Tale, American Idol, only problem was that you could only play it from certain hours of the day, meaning you couldn't play the thing at midnight.
This was a really awesome video! I've always hoped someone would make a video about product placement in videogames, and I learned quite a few new things. Thanks, DJ Slope! 😊
I was sick through ALL of December, so I'm very happy to finally be feeling better - and also very happy for new Slopes content to watch tonight! 🎉😊
You know, I'll bet that there's only a SMALL handful of us in the audience who are familiar with "Jumpman". Haha! Strangely enough, I loaded up and played that game last week!
It’s been a number of years for me at this point.
th-cam.com/video/r5bSKsdjxrs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TE5vy9D-HCZ9nB5E ENJOY! :D
I have the c64 version of it in my old disk case, that game was absolutely brutal and weirdly varied for a game of it's type.
Welcome back , glad you and your family is feeling better!
Appreciate it buddy. Really wanted to get some big content out for December. But fully missed the boat
The Strangest one I remember was the Home Computer Ports of Sega's Thunder Blade featuring a ton of Pepsi Product Placement. Not sure what a Miltery Attack Helicopter had to do with Pepsi Mind!
20:12 Here in Australia, we call it Weet-Bix! But we don’t have a mascot.
My final thoughts are I am just glad to see a new Slope's Game Room video. Good work!
As for full advert games, I remember Kool-Aid Man (Atari 2600), Avoid the Noid (PC), Yo Noid! (NES), 7-up Spot (NES), T&C Surf Designs (NES).
Product placement in games always sort of fascinate me
This is a cool topic. "Niche" just tends to be ahead of the curve.
Hey, thanks for the kind words about my friend's animations on Super Frog. Man, it has been a long time since I saw that animation.
O wow, that is awesome
Pretty sure there was a Splinter Cell game where Sam Fisher stopped to open a brand of chewing gum before going into action.
yeah - SS Chaos Theory had a very blatant Airwaves Gum placement. Did take me out the stealth agent mindset to be honest
Wow, I forgot how McDonalds, Pizza hut and KFC all had silly little video games.
🤔 I wonder why Subway never did. Could have been Jared running around with his 12 in sub and ... Oooohhh thats why they didnt make a game.
Actually, there was a game called "Jared's Pants Dance" on Subway's website and on mobile app stores. No, I'm not joking. I only became aware of it after Jared got arrested, when people started pointing out this game's existence and the fact that it hadn't been taken down yet. Subway did take the game down after a few days, though.
Product placement in video games is something that always made me go "Hey, look at that!" to my siblings when we were young, although it never made me actually want to go buy anything. It's just something I thought was funny. I have no idea what it'd be like playing something where the product is completely up front and center though! (Like that skittles game... now that sounds very silly XD)
When I first think of "product placement in games" I immediately think of Disney Extreme Skateboarding on the PS2 who's story mode features EXTREMELY BLATANT product placement from McDonalds and... Nokia phones? What 8-12 yo in the mid 2000s wants a Nokia phone?
1:06 features this! And omg my thoughts exactly! I will say that the Nokia ad stuck with me years later, and my first phone was the Nokia Lumia. Honestly? That was a pretty crap phone 😆
On a similar note the Sirius XM and Blue Man Group billboards from the Tony Hawk games stuck with me as well
They were in THPS as well, from the same developer.
Crazy taxi has the best product placement because, like you said, it's natural in the context used and not intrusive in any way.
The same can be seen in Need For Speed Underground 2
Slope. Greetings from new orleans. I don't know if you'll actually see this, but TH-cam does not suggest your videos to me unless I'm using a VPN that shows I am outside of the United States. I've been watching your videos for at least five or six years. Hope all is well.

Well done product placement is barely noticeable. If the product placement takes you 'out' of the game for even a second, it is a software crime of the highest order. It's the equivalent of people having a loud conversation (about McDonald's, no doubt) when you're at the movies
Over half an hour of advergames and product placements and not one "Pepsi for TV game"
I show it off near the beginning. But that's waaaaaay to obvious for this show :P
Sneak King is my favorite advergame. Microsoft did quite a bit of that kind of stuff around the early 360 era. Toyota Yaris and Doritos both got marginally fun XBLA games.
The theme song for the NES's Punch Out is the "Gillette Look Sharp March", but as far as I know, Gillette didn't pay Nintendo to put this in as product placement. I think this song was used because it was the theme song of the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports, which frequently showed boxing. Since it stopped airing in the 1960s, the Gen-X kids that were the target audience of Nintendo would not have even recognized that song, nor would they be old enough to shave, so it wouldn't make sense as product placement.
Youre doing the pico dirty, there was a surprising amount of content in some of those book/cartridges.
Busy World of Richard Scarey and the Muppets one I remember spending a lot of time with in particular.
ah yes a cuppa hot chocolate and a slopes game room video, im ready
16:46 you don't need to worry about offending them, a cursory glance at their history will give you plenty of reason to want to
I'm an American who was in college when that Sonic game was released and I've also never heard of Soap shoes before today.
One Coke placement where you might not expect it, an examinable drink dispenser in Parasite Eve 2.
Today I learned that Simon & Schuster PAID to make a Skittles advergame. That's ridiculous.
Back in the day, I had no idea Soap shoes were a thing. I thought the advertisements were a little weird, as I had no clue about those shoes. It wasnt till years later that I discovered they were actually a thing.
Exactly the same for me :D
You included biker mice from Mars! Fantastic video mate
Huge thanks mate :D yeah, had to add that. Would love to know why it's so in your face. I wonder if snickers bank rolled the whole thing
Pushover also had cut scenes where Colin would collect a packet of Quavers to show all the flavors.
Excuse me but I never have a Hostess Roster in Yakuza 0 without my Cup Ramen Maskot Hostess.
Lets not forget the Blatand Gilette Ad in Naughty Dogs latest Trailer "Gilette - Everything a Man could want"
Time to make a cup of tea, roll a joint, get cozy and enjoy, cheers 🍻
Your videos remind me of an era of games media long gone, thank you for hours of entertainment!
Ahhhh dude thanks :D plenty more to come my man. Really appreciate being a part of your chill out time
I was both amazed and 😂 when TMNT 2 nes had that pizza hut product placement. I think that's the first time I remember seeing placement in games, not including product Mascots becoming video games
That was a good one for sure, it works with the IP and doesn't get in the way of the gameplay A+
@@slopesgameroom What was really odd is that Pizza Hut had a promotion where you could get a VHS of the first TMNT movie from them. But in the movie, the Turtles eat DOMINO'S PIZZA.
I of course thought of Sonic Adventure 2 first with this video, but then I thought of that one Cap'n Crunch virtual pet game! I don't remember the exact name of the game, but you raised virtual monsters called Crunchlings. They started out as babies and grew in real time, and you'd feed them different Cap'n Crunch cereals so they'd become stronger at different minigames. You could name them and customize their colors and the like. It was a cute time-waster, and you could get copies of the game in Cap'n Crunch boxes. :)
I had no idea this was posted until your community post. It doesn’t seem like TH-cam is suggesting this video.
Iirc, Cool Spot, when released in the UK; there was no 7-Up reference as we had Fido Dido for our mascot.
There's a small chance I might be forgetting bits though.
You absolute legend!!!
You got Pushover into this video!!!
I have great memories of playing this game with my brother when we were kids!!!
EA had exclusive rights to use Porsche cars for a number of years in games. Normally this resulted in only NFS games getting some of my favorite cars, but I love how a German tuning company, RUF, technically counted as a car manufacturer so that was how Gran Turismo snuck around that licensing.
It also gave us NFS: Porsche Unleashed which, as a Porsche fanboy, was just heaven to experience when it came out. Technically it was "educational" so I remember getting it for 20$ through my school's book store when I was about 10 years old. One of my favorite PC games of all time.
Slope's you're awesome.... I remember when Billboards in Burnout Paradise would have proper advertising on them and would change periodically... That helped bring you into the fantasy and just a little extra icing on the cake. Keep doing what you do and have a wonderful day! 😊🌎♥️🕺🐕
Thanks so much matey, I love that this completely niche topic has found so many people interested in the same thing
@slopesgameroom I know, right? Your variety of topics are always interesting... The duller it sounds, the more fun they are to watch. Have a wonderful day and all! 😊🌎♥️🕺🐕
I'm only 2 mins in but I hope the Yakuza series gets a mention for the amount of licenced booze you can buy hahahaha
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *runs away and hides*
I've always maintained the stance on product placement that if it appears in areas where you would expect it, i.e. delivery trucks, billboards, vending machines, buildings in the background, then they're not terribly offensive as they give the fictional world a bit of grounding and helps make the more fantastical parts feel more grounded by extension. One example would be the IHOP restaurant in Man of Steel - people like to complain about that endlessly. But ... given where it was located - a small rural town in the middle of nowhere - it made sense as that would most likely be one of the only two or three branded locations in that town, the others being a farm store like Tractor Supply Co. and a department store like WalMart. It's not like Superman got a power boost from one of IHOP's signature dishes or anything.
Same goes for video games. Brand logos on billboards in racing games isn't terribly offensive as that's what you expect, but games like the Skittles RPG are awful because they don't fit the world building at all. I get that as long as corporate sponsorships of media are a thing that we all have to deal with the unfortunate ugly reality of product placement but there is definitely a right and wrong way to do it.
My thoughts exactly, although in that skittles game defence. They did lean into it so much with comedy, so it kinda works. Still woulda been nice to know what it was when looking at the cover
@slopesgameroom that's true though I can't help but wonder how much better or worse the game would have sold if they had been up front.
No mention of Chibi Robo and it’s brilliant use of product placement? That one’s even better then the Sonic one tbh.
Oh god, I'd nearly forgotten about Biker mice from Mars. One of the weirder in a long list of weird cartoons from my childhood. Why are they mice? On bikes? From Mars?
One product placement game we had in the 90s that I never see mentioned is Duracell 'Run the Bunny'. It was a doom clone-esque maze game and if I remember right from my childhood I think there may have been prizes available when it released. Came out in the UK, don't know about the rest of the world.
We definitely didn't have it in the US, since we have the Energizer Bunny. (Unless the game was rebranded to something else here.)
I used to remember playing Rainbow Six Lockdown where there's off brand product placement, I can't remember what level but it exists and I thought Cup a Noodles is some off brand on Final Fantasy XV
this would make a great follow up video - brands used in games to avoid having real brands, like Fallouts Nuka Cola, Burger Shot in GTA or Max Paynes Kong Whiskey
After the mention of the Coke games, I fully expected a mention of Pepsi Man. Perhaps it's just too well known to most people to bring up though.
Hopefully this older video of mine helps th-cam.com/video/t5T9btUvsXE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zmdGoycKM-P06xEM
@slopesgameroom I had a feeling you might have already discussed it in the past. The complete lack of mention here just surprised me a bit.
@@PixelatedH2O he did get shown off right at the beginning if I recall
Slope, your videos are the BEST!
Cool Spot is far better than it has any right to be. Even as a kid, it was clearly an advertisement for 7up, but the game was an awesome platform shooter. The animation was smooth and detailed, the music was awesome, the controls responsive, and it was overall fun.
5 A Day Adventures was a computer game released by Dole (the fruit brand) I loved when I was a kid, though I haven't played it since I was around 5 or 6 - now I've got to go see if I can get my hands on it to see if it was actually any good. My grandparents got the copy for free, but I can't recall how.
O wow. That's a new one for me
Holds breath for the Colgate games: "Harold Hardtooth: Battle of the clean Teeth!" :P
What amuses me is old games advertising now-dead brands. Looking at you, Space Quest V and your wall-to-wall Sprint branding every time you use the communicator. Even the Star Trek-style transporter was Sprint branded and there’s a dialog tree that includes an outright ad.
Soap or Die is a great documentary on the sponsored Soap shoes scene, freely available on TH-cam no less. Highly recommend.
I remember reading a preview of Darkened Skye in EGM back in the day and I thought it was a joke. That cutscene is hilarious and amazing!
All these years later I finally find out what the goal of KoolAid on 2600 is. I didn't have the manual.
Never heard that McDonald game on the Sega Pico (and also the Sega Pico, lol) but it really looks a fun game that I would like to try, kind reminds me the games Diner Dash and Order Up!!.
Anyway nice video!, it was interesting to know all these titles with products placement.
But I'm surprised that you didn't mentioned the PS2 game: The Getaway, that game was pretty much the "GTA" with real product placements everywhere, since billboards, local stores and even the cars that you drive. But the funny thing is that actually worked very well since it made the city of London feels very real when you were driving around.
The only sad thing is that maybe for that (the product placements and brands) is the reason that Sony can't or don't want to re-release that game again for the PS4/5 as part of the PlayStation Classics lineup.
Superfrog was my childhood game. I was obsessed. I didn't take to the lucozade much though.
Main issue I have with product placement is that when it comes to a release, they might not do it because it would take too long to remove the them.
i have to say i love advertising games, they really are an artifact of their time
Great video man, thanks for being awesome!
Not a game known for product placement, I was shocked when I saw Coca Cola in Parasite Eve 2.

Love this topic-great video! Regarding Yo! Noid, I actually contend it’s not an advergame. By the time it came out, the Noid was no longer Dominos’ mascot, and the only branding of theirs in the game is a legal line on the title screen-not even the numerous in-game pizza boxes, which seems like a no-brainer. Rather, this seems like more of a case of licensed character usage, not unlike Capcom did with Disney at the time. There was more pizza product placement in TMNT2 for NES. 😀
That's a very decent bit of info mate. Obviously as it didn't come to the UK I had no idea. Appreciate it
@@slopesgameroom Oh, don't get me wrong -- Yo! Noid is universally accepted as an advergame anywhere you go because it totally is at surface level. Only weirdos like me would go so far as to really look at it and question things. 🙂 There's some really interesting off-screen stuff involving the Noid, including legitimate real-world tragedy. Worth a Wikipedia read sometime.
Here's one game; Final Fantasy 15. Cup Noodles, American Express, and Coleman camping supplies to name a few that I have caught so far in the game. You literally have a side quest that involves you finding a recipe and the game even gives you an outfit where you can wear a Cup Noodles on your head and has billboards in the world. And I am most likely mistaken but the logo on the Regalia the car Noctis drives may be an altered logo of Maserati.
The cup noodle quest is so bloody strange
@@slopesgameroom I have been a long-time final fantasy fan and as soon as I saw that cup noodle quest it actually took me out of the game world for a moment.
I have a correction and expansion for your video, The Burnout Paradise live advertising was only a thing on the xBox 360, the PS3 and PC had static bill boards, the PC advertsied PC components too, x58 Sli motherboards I think. The Live bill boards were not updated through content updates but were pushed on loading and connecting so they changed a lot more regularly than you made out. Further, both console version initially had a Gibson music shop with a huge Les Paul on the side, but that deal ended at some point and they did do a content patch that changed the building to a generic guitar.
No mention of PEPSIMAN????
what matters most to me is that the product fits in
The USA version of Croc 2 had a product placement. Instead of the bouncy jellies, they were replace with Gummi Savers.
Wait...The Darkened Skies developer actually PAID Skittles to use them in the game?! You'd think it'd be the other way around, with the skittles company paying to get in the game for marketing purposes. But I guess it's kinda like when a developer licenses a popular franchise because having a game based on a known property is a lot more likely to get sold than one without out, so paying a big fee is worth it (well, most of the time).
But why would anyone think that a game about Skittles would ever be a good idea for a game or make people want to play it? It's not like Skittles had a well-known and popular mascot or something that people can latch on to, other than the whole "taste the rainbow" tag line. That always confused the heck out of me, and now it's even more confusing that they willingly paid to for the privilege to include them in the game.
Such a weird concept for game, I remember reading somewhere that game was already well into the development process before the Skittles tie-in came into the mix, and on top of having to try and integrate it into the game somehow, the people at Skittles also supposedly had some extremely weird and seemingly random requests when it came to what was allowed in the game. At least the developers tried to make the most out of it, and really attempted to make an actual good game out of it...whether or not they actually accomplished that, well that's up to the people who played it.
NES versions of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy contained unused Coca Cola logos which the game never displays.
