They should have never removed majority of the scenes. They would made so much more sense in the film!

I would love a dvd of this with the map scene left in, of all the deleted scenes, I think that one really should've stayed. I rather liked the way they filmed it.
...And also the extra scenes with Norda

I will never understand the hatred for this film. As someone who got into D&D in 3rd edition, the makeup, the armor & weapon aesthetic, the effects for the creatures, looks straight out of a 3rd edition rule book. The CGI environments even emulate Baldur’s Gate’s aesthetic.
Combine that with a lovable cast of heroes that has loads of chemistry and fun villains and I think you have an underrated D&D movie.
    Snails is the highlight!

Elwood Gutsworthy of Oakenshield Clan? Did they just stole that name Oaksenshield from The Hobbit?

I think the ending music from the group scene with this ending would of been the perfect version 👌

I guess so, but there are so many other things that would have been perfect in this movie but are not there.
I would really like to see the knighting ceremony which available nowhere.

@@gerLtfrva if you look into the making of the film it had licencing issues for over 10 years the writer was forced to use a older script that had previously been dismissed and he was also made to direct which he had never done before. It was plagued with things going wrong and unfortunately that shows in the quality of the film

@@markevayne Yeah I've seen it, I've posted it on this channel actually.
And it really was a mess to make this movie, since he didn't even want to direct the movie but at the same time he didn't trust better directors like Coppola or James Cameron...
He's not very consistent in some of his stories...

I'm pretty sure the alternate ending here is the ending of the movie I saw on VHS. Remembering thinking it weird they left the movie with Snails killed off.

Whoever wrote this script never even read a single D&D novel, or they would know that people in-universe do NOT go around flaunting they are 9th level mages... That's a thing in the game, not the fantasy world. :D
Boy I can see why they cut the map scene, those effects were laughable in 2000 already. Also, why would they erase the mind of his dad because he invented a flying carriage? These people really did not know D&D or any of the universes and settings... magical items are a thing in D&D and many forms of magic exists, not all requiring mages. Priests, bards, paladins can all cast spells... none really need the same tools as mages. This mage-ocracy thing they invented for the movie is a dumb thing.
06:53: Was that supposed to be her familiar on her shoulder that she gave to the dwarf? It made some growling noises but cannot really see what it is.
What's with the stupid half-masks on the elves? They look like Two-Face. Still gotta admit, black chick playing the elf girl looks great. She was nude in the Tales from the Crypt: Ritual, so trust me when I say she actually fills in that plate mail molded with boob-slots and nipples nicely in reality too. Guess though actors from this movie have one thing in common - much like the guy playing Riley, she too soon retired from acting after this.
LOL I am guessing the egg prop and the stones around it had the red dots painted because CGI was supposed to be added there later... but never was.
15:21 - "The elves people do not require spells to work with magic" - BULLSHIT! He was just casting Raise Dead. That's still a spell, it's just not an arcane but a divine spell, it still has to be cast - and how the hell would the mage girl not know divine magic exists? They have to worship some god in her kingdom too and they have their own clerics.
That "I've just staaaaaarteeeed!!!" scene made me laugh so much. Love to see how Jeremy Irons can go from full ham to normal at the drop of a dime. Dinners with him must be fun.
His friends cared so little about Snails, they just dumped a few rocks over his grave. No headstone for Marlon Wayans. :D

The flying carriage scene, the implication I got from that is that the mage council kept an iron grip on magic. The girl thought magic was a science that could only be understood and used through intense study, because the mage council wanted everyone to believe that. So any kind of bard or sorcerer or warlock they'd mind wipe. It's a bit of a logical leap but it fits well enough.

In-universe? Which one as the D&D world is a multiverse? The Empire (or Kingdom as it came to be later) of Izmir is apparently located in the Mystara world but that is a bit of a retcon as it was probably added after this film was released.

@@AbelMcTalisker You know WotC was salivating at all the books and minis and crap merchandise there were planning on selling after this was a huge massive hit at the box office!
This would've been their new de-facto campaign setting and they would've milked it for all its worth. Dodged a bullet there. Eberron was picked in 2004 so they could try to move away from the OG settings and their creators (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, etc.)

@@LuiJoD316 The origins for this actually pre-date WotC`s buyout of TSR as Gary Gygax spent several years in Hollywood trying to get various D&D Film and TV projects going, Gary even has a brief cameo in this and and he was involved in the earlier attempt that was the old animated series which WotC appears to be referencing in the current PR for the new rulebooks. The truth is both WotC and TSR before them have been trying for years to get a big blockbuster success on-screen with various degrees of success. This actually got a sort of sequel in "Wrath of the Dragon God", there was "The Book of Vile Darkness", a Dragonlance animated movie, and now "Honor Among Thieves".

That being said, this is a SO BAD it's fun trash ride of a movie. There are parts were you have to hold back the cringe, mostly Marlon Wayans scenes, to make it through to the end. Jeremy Irons and Bruce Payne scenery chewing over acting are one of it's "saving graces".
