Raid Extreme, Lauwersmeer, September 6-8th 2024

I travelled to Lauwersmeer in Friesland with fellow canoe sailor Simon Knight, to take part in the 'Raid Extreme'. This event has taken place for the last 8 years and competitors have to visit six checkpoints within a 10 hour period, from sunrise to 17.00. The distance travelled is about 30 miles. Any type of small craft without an engine can compete and the weather dictates the likely winners, ranging from catamarans to rowing skiffs.
