The postal service is essential in a large country like Canada. It should be funded by the government, especially when it operates on the international arena. Having them compete with numbers of private carrier companies is just ridiculous.
Trump picked the guy currently running usps. The guy also owns stock in ups, like that doesn’t have a conflict of interest. Tank the national service to expand other private services at higher fees. Yep, billionaire logic.
Funny how when people talk about privatization they always neglect to mention the underfunding endemic to public services. Like, gee, I wonder why this system is doing so poorly when it has a fraction of the budget it demonstrably needs to do its job? It's the same thing with the NHS across the pond. Years of underfunding, and now people are talking about letting the market loose on the healthcare system there. And of course, the most vehement advocates for privatization are also the people who most consistently reject higher budgets, but they'll never admit that directly.

Blame that fr De “Evil” Joy!! My sister retired from there. She said “it’s a slave job, they literally spy on you while you work inside, ‘I COULDN’T WAIT TO RETIRE’ from their clenching grip.”
If the average American truly understood how HARD, dangerous, mentally and physically difficult being a letter carrier was... The whole nation would riot along with them. I tried it for several months, I couldn't do it. They work so hard for too little honestly
I usually don't agree with complaining workers- but this is true. I worked for USPS for 6 months as a letter carrier. Actually- brutal work. One of the workers couldn't believe I stopped for lunch. I got out and delivered pizza- made more money and Actually had some fun
Back in the sixties the post office was the best job for the non college person. It was several times the minimum wage. Ten plus per hour as opposed to $1.25.
USPS is subsidizing the success of their private competitors by running the nations most unprofitable routes and not competing strongly for the more lucrative routes. On top of that, USPS has to fund employee retirement in a way more expensive and inconvenient way than their competitors. All of that together means they are going to struggle to not get cheap on wages.
Taxes, inflation, rent, insurance, health care deductions, medicine, debt, lack of credit history. People get left with scraps over and over again, and it keeps them stuck where they’re at.
For essentially its entire existence, the USPS was one of the most well-run, well-respected, and efficient government agencies to ever exist. Not only that, it was a pathway to the middle class, especially for minorities. My second cousin was a letter carrier for 30 years, raised a family, bought a house, and retired with a great pension and health insurance. Seems like a different universe now. But, despite this or maybe BECAUSE of this, at the behest of their private carrier donors, it has been intentionally targeted and degraded by the "starve the pig" right-wing. It is SOOO much easier to keep a promise to destroy than to build and improve. But, NO private, for-profit carrier will EVER deliver to the end of EVERY road as a standard service like the USPS is mandated to do. Once it is destroyed, what then? I guess Tesla and Amazon will just command the politicians they own to use our taxes to pay them to do it while still being allowed to pay next to nothing in taxes themselves.
DeJoy’s job was to ruin the postal service, right? The postal service took business away from his private businesses? A direct conflict. That’s why he was given his post, no?
Our tentative agreement is trash. Carriers are told we need to be mindful of USPS's budget but management staff is still growing despite the fact that upper management disciplines them for managing and will make them clear all decisions with them first. Our Union President should be fired immediately and his proposed Tentative Agreement was a disgrace.
How come nobody addressed the fact that Republicans and the current post master is trying to privatize one of the most successful public services in the country?
Where is all the money going. Where I live, the mail boxes (group mail box) need to be painted and I was going to paint ours but was told it was against the law. And, the vehicles they drive need maintenance but don't get it. Shame, Shame, shame.
This reminds me so much of city workers. It also used to be a " good job" for middle class people. People were upset when minimum wage went up to $20/hr in Los Angeles, because the city workers were making $18-$19 per hour. Then the union expected people to be excited over a 2% raise and the city council was acting like that was going to bankrupt the city.
People lack confidence, which relates to low self esteem as well as not having a self worth.. postal worker here, I know. The contract is garbage. I'm just barely getting by. They also increased our health benefits too by $50-175 more. My health insurance per pay check, is $435. We get paid every 2 weeks .
And if you think things are bad now, wait until Trump is back in the White House! The average American who votes Republican, is voting against their own best interests. Period.
The question is: Based on the Postal Service business model as compared to decades ago, is any category of operating expenses grossly disproportional for functional operations and maintaining basic overhead, including salaries for executive positions, or, has the greed fueled price gouging across America which began during the Covid 19 debacle which turned into a deliberate inflation by equity fund monopolists simply made the cost of living too high for the daily working postal employees?
AND they have to deliver most of your amazon packages, with no heat or ac in trucks. Working in the dark, walking in the rain, thet only get ONE day off every 2 weeks, drive trucks with no turning signal or wipers because they can't say no. The postmaster does not care, selected by Trmp. They're so desperate for anyone to deliver mail and packages they dont even do interviews. And we're still arguing about $15 minimum wage. Which is NOT ENOUGH to live.
Trump, Musk et. al. will make it worse. 😐
Just to remind everyone that this is not UPS a big private corporation we are talking about but USPS - the postal service - a government organization.
The government spends SO much money, but can't pay our mail carriers a living wage or lower the cost of living to something affordable and livable.
This is all over the world. Only a few years ago my wage was middle-class. Now I’m poor
Global economic competition has been crushing workers for decades...
Sick I remember a time where everybody wanted to work for the post office because it was a good paying job and it had good benefits. Everybody is poor now this is sad.
And the SENADORES and the CONGRESMAN, DON'T DO A FRIKING, THING, AND THEY EARN TO MUCH MONEY FOR NOTHING, 😒
Blame that fr De “Evil” Joy!! My sister retired from there. She said “it’s a slave job, they literally spy on you while you work inside, ‘I COULDN’T WAIT TO RETIRE’ from their clenching grip.”
A lot of people lucky enough to find a job, still can't even afford basic rent.
If the average American truly understood how HARD, dangerous, mentally and physically difficult being a letter carrier was... The whole nation would riot along with them. I tried it for several months, I couldn't do it. They work so hard for too little honestly
And yet DeJoy is still in control.
USPS profits are going to pensions of future employees that don't exist.😢 This was done by GWB. USPS used to be solid middle class.
I usually don't agree with complaining workers- but this is true. I worked for USPS for 6 months as a letter carrier. Actually- brutal work. One of the workers couldn't believe I stopped for lunch. I got out and delivered pizza- made more money and Actually had some fun
De Roy, CEO of USPS, ask Him why.
Greatest Country in the World they keep telling us
Back in the sixties the post office was the best job for the non college person.
Dejoy needs to go!!!
Taxes, inflation, rent, insurance, health care deductions, medicine, debt, lack of credit history. People get left with scraps over and over again, and it keeps them stuck where they’re at.
Do like Canada post workers and strike
Unless the president considers you essential and prevents you from striking, like he did for air traffic controllers.
@@Sethicorn Yikes! Hopefully that won't happen.
@@Sethicorn the government employees signed paperwork stating they couldn't strike
@@Sethicorn then you revolt.
My mom has worked for UPS for over 20 years. She can’t afford her rent or groceries. I have no clue how she’ll ever be able to retire
At least he got a raise? I haven't had one in nearly 2 years. It's still a shame that this is happening but it's happening everywhere
It’s actually not a raise, the cost of carrier’s medical insurance increased higher than the “raise”.
The most powerful authority here and their agents get treated like they do…insanity.
Alice in wonderland makes more and more sense every passing year.
The postal service is slowly fading away less printed media is used every year.
Wonder how much the bosses raised THEIR salaries ....
The shipping price is at an all time high yet these guys are still homeless? Insanity
THE RENT FOR APARTMENTS, ETC. IS INCREASING MORE YEARLY THAN THE INCREASE IN PEOPLE'S SALARIES AND SS INCOME COLA .
Charles Dickens wrote about this during the Victorian era-nothing has changed.
Decoy gets millions while a hard working mail carrier gets $20 😮😮😮
Not surprising, Trump spent his 1st 4 years systematically destroying the postal service. Look forward to more of that soon
It’s all going into the pension fund thanks to republicans.
Companies should be afraid to do this to their workers. We need to take the power back
People lack confidence, which relates to low self esteem as well as not having a self worth.. postal worker here, I know. The contract is garbage. I'm just barely getting by. They also increased our health benefits too by $50-175 more. My health insurance per pay check, is $435. We get paid every 2 weeks .
I work for the VA health administration. I am homeless and cannot shower.
And if you think things are bad now, wait until Trump is back in the White House! The average American who votes Republican, is voting against their own best interests. Period.
Let me guess- the tax slaves need to pay for postal workers lives.
You don't pay attention until it's to late look was put in charge of your company
It’s the republicans forcing them to prefund their pensions and the last president kicking Amazon to the curb.
But I am sure the hardship is worth it when you see the boss and his supercar collection /s
DeJoy has his own shipping company. He is deliberately destroying his competition. Expect more of this as Trump appoints his whims.
Maybe we should be boycotting the people who decide our rent?
This is so wrong, so goddamned wrong on many levels. What the hell is happening in this country?!
How much money does Congress make? Plus benefits!
Plus $2million budget for running their office.
The head of USPS came from a corporation. This is what happens when running government services like a business. Two totally different missions…
Our country is in deep doo doo.
Pay these workers a living wage! We depend on them. Executives share your salary with them.
If you apply and aren't a murderer, you're hired, for less than a cashier at Target.
"What the US Gov't Doesn't Want You to Know ABOUT the USPS"
There. Fixed it for you.
19/hr is wildly good for my area
