So I'm a postal carrier myself. Let me fill you in. Brian Renfroe, our National Association of Letter Carrier president ( NALC ) delegated with Louis Dejoy ( Post Master General ) an agreement for a pay raise for the next 3 years 1.3%. we have the option to vote no on it where it's brought back to the table to be renegotiated for another decision on pay. Dejoy ( postmaster General ) was handed the position by trump. Usually there's a committee of 4 to 5 who vote who becomes the next person in charge of the post office. Renfroe, ( National Union President) was voted in by retirees ) who is a recovering alcoholic. Hasn't been around. Spends members union dues as his own personal piggy bank and hasn't negotiated a renewal in a contract in over 535 days, close to a year and a half. The problem is Renfroe ( NALC PRESIDENT) wants us all to agree. Dejoy ( Post Master General ) has a ten year plan to cut on budget and save costs on the post office losing money. This new contract renewal is part of his 10 year plan. The problem with this is , we can't protest, part of the national agreement in our contract. Unless the whole entire force did. Renfroe ( NALC ) once his contract is over , he's going to go work with Dejoy. The contract is located on the national association of letter Carriers website. The problem with the contract is the higher ups will think we have no self worth. So come when there is another contract in the talks, the higher ups will give us lower than 1.3%. Our new contract doesn't even level out to the COLA ( COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT) nor does it even meet the needs of inflation.

Company bragged about record breaking profits. They promised everyone they would finally make $20 an hour. They lied and 5 people quit and they didn't care just had the few that stayed over work themselves. They finally bargained in "good faith" because they take don't want them to unionize. Funny how when people talk about privatization they always neglect to mention the underfunding endemic to public services.
Like, gee, I wonder why this system is doing so poorly when it has a fraction of the budget it demonstrably needs to do its job? It's the same thing with the NHS across the pond. Years of underfunding, and now people are talking about letting the market loose on the healthcare system there. And of course, the most vehement advocates for privatization are also the people who most consistently reject higher budgets, but they'll never admit that directly.

On top of that, USPS has to fund employee retirement in a way more expensive and inconvenient way than their competitors. All of that together means they are going to struggle to not get cheap on wages.

For essentially its entire existence, the USPS was one of the most well-run, well-respected, and efficient government agencies to ever exist.
Not only that, it was a pathway to the middle class, especially for minorities. My second cousin was a letter carrier for 30 years, raised a family, bought a house, and retired with a great pension and health insurance. Seems like a different universe now.
But, despite this or maybe BECAUSE of this, at the behest of their private carrier donors, it has been intentionally targeted and degraded by the "starve the pig" right-wing.
It is SOOO much easier to keep a promise to destroy than to build and improve. But, NO private, for-profit carrier will EVER deliver to the end of EVERY road as a standard service like the USPS is mandated to do.
Once it is destroyed, what then?
I guess Tesla and Amazon will just command the politicians they own to use our taxes to pay them to do it while still being allowed to pay next to nothing in taxes themselves.
