The main reason why the audience went so crazy was his return to the stage. He was back. Before his wife and brother had died, he had already had fourteen very, very successful years behind him. After the deaths, he was away for four years, but everyone knew what had happened. The album "Mensch" has already achieved platinum status based on pre-orders (before release). The tour was completely sold out (65,000 people in the arena alone). And for him, this success came completely out of the blue. He hadn't expected to be so successful again immediately after his break. But his audience simply loves him. And still do today. Just three weeks ago, he gave eight concerts again, and last year he went on a longer tour. And almost all of his musicians are still with him. The ones you see in the video.

@@tazzznphilly I think the audience saw him crying happy tears as well as tears of grief. But all in all it was pure joy. For him, for the audience and for his musicians, who had their goofy, creative and nice companion back. I will give another suggestion for a song to react to when I'm home and not writing on my mobile phone (EDIT: th-cam.com/video/gYf3QQ43R_o/w-d-xo.html this song "MÃĪnner" made him famous in 1984. "Mensch" is the title song of his most successful album, which also included "Der Weg". The album is the most successful German-language album of all time and has already reached platinum status through pre-orders.
As already expressed in the video for "Der Weg", he processes grief and loss on it.
65,000 spectators attended the concert. He has an outstanding position with the audience, who love him, especially because of the overall package of catchy music and intelligent, understandable lyrics.
Since Euro 2024 is currently taking place here, I have entered a football song by him into the Tuesday competition.

      @@tazzznphilly it's incredible.
also just adding onto the other comment, this concert in the video is 2003, one of the first concerts after his break from music.
Even now, 21 years after this, he once again hosted a concert in my hometown "Bochum" in our beloved Football Stadium with a capacity of approx. 30k (the last one in Bochum being 9-10 years in the past already), which is nearby Gelsenkirchen and also the title to one of his songs/albums.
4 days of concert in 1 week, even weekdays and it was completely sold out in a few days maybe even hours when tickets were sold online back in like december (that's 100k+ tickets only for our city LOL and these tickets were not cheap, I think 100₮, but it's soo soo worth it I would have given 200₮ knowing how the concert was)
I never got the chance to visit one of his concerts before, as I was too young to understand his songs, but now that I'm older I'm sooo so glad that I got to see this legend live, he is not only a legend in my hometown, but also germany as a whole.
When he played the songs "Mensch", "Der Weg", "MÃĪnner" and of course the song about my hometown everyone sang along, actually every song people sang along, but I think my generation doesn't know every lyric to his songs so most of the time the older gen carried us to show him how much he is appreciated. I seriously felt bad for not knowing more of his lyrics.

I had the chance to work with him as a musician at Schauspielhaus Bochum (Bochum Theatre) as GrÃķnemeyer also worked as an actor in his early days. IIRC this song was played after "Der Weg". Funny thing is, that "und weil er lebt, Du fehlst" (and because he lives, you are missing) sounds a bit like "unweigerlich, du fehlst" (inevitably, you are missing). Maybe Herbert was playing with the words. Same thing about Rammstein ... there are phrases where you can take "the other word" as well ... Example: Du, Du hast, Du hast mich, Du hast mich gefragt ... (you, you have, you have me, you have me asked) sounds also like "you, you hate, you hate me, you have me asked).
