I think what makes MMod's animations work so well is how they all feel like natural evolutions of what was present in HL2 itself. The spirit of the original game is never lost in these animations, just enhanced with that modern touch.
the same cannot be said for project hl2
it also makes it more believable since gordons movement is more sluggish due to him carrying that heavy ass HEV suit and him being just a scientist
I love how Gordon takes a closer look to a bullet casing from AR2 in Project HL2. A true scientist, who constantly asks question: "The hell am I looking at and how it works in the first place"?
I think I prefer how mmod doesn’t switch up the models too much but just tries to improve the animations.
agreed, but at 0:50 they added a quick reload for a revolver but with the actual thing that holds the bullets, in HL2, you literally quick reload with your hands. it also randomly disappears

MMod animations just feel much more fluid and natural, while PHL2's are more energetic and exaggerated.
I was about to say. I think I prefer mmod though cause I like how the smg pops out the stock and the spas-12 has a carrying strip or whatever. I like the neat details more honestly

Thought i was the only one...The Animations (even though they are good) feels more aggressive as if it's a COD game.

Both are great, project hl2 is over the top and make you feel like a badass while the Hl2 mmod feel more like an improved version of half life 2 classic animations.

@@pizzaman10203 oh please you know it's true, it can't be denied, and I don't even says it as a cod fan, I hate cod especially the multiplayer, I wish battlefield had those animations lol. Bf2042 has such mediocre animations and sound design compared to new cod, movement feeling too.
The Project HL models are phenomenal, especially the pulse rifle and the revolver but I prefer the mmod animations, although the pulse rifle reload animation of Project HL2 is pretty badass!

they're made by a dude named Juniez, im pretty sure he allowed the models to be used in mods
project hl2's animations look much more aggressive, going more action-oriented, while mmod is more natural, looking like an update of the original animations.
Models are very awesome in project hl2, but animations are straight up psychopathic. MMOD animations on the project hl2 models and hands is the best combination imo.
project hl2 looks like all the weapons are still warm from the factory, while mmod keeps the original "lightly used" look

I mean the mmod is like a small update or small evolution while the other one is just as modern as possible both can be fun depending on what you want.
Both mods are really good.
MMod is more like a enhanced modern of the classic HL2, not ging too far away from the roots, but improving in some aspects of the game, love it.
Project HL2, I can see why the more aggressive approach of the way weapons behave, which is indeed realistic(not from my experience, I never used a weapon, but I do saw one in action IRL, doesn't looks like something easy to handle), not only improving the animations, but also adding improved models of the weapons and the HEV suit arms, I think I saw those models on gamebanana... Not totally sure, but it's really neat!

The spas in mmod is just so good, including with the orange strap make the spas more tactical like.
as much i like Project HL2's textures and models I still hate the Animations,They are just WAY too much exaggerated and aggressive imho,Like this ain't COD.
MMod's animations feels more smoother,grounded and right.They feel like a good evolution to OG animations if you ask me.

I truly love the MMod shotgun reloading sound.
Project had the cooler draw and inspect anims, but shooting and reloads looked funky. For that I would use Mmod for over it. Good comparison video!
project hl2 so hecking aggressive ngl, I wish there's project hl2 models, but only mmod animations
I wish that more mode kept the pulse rifle’s classic animation of reloading one pellet at a time. Part of the futuristic appeal of the rifle to me was how all of those shots were contained in that one tiny vessel. It felt more alien and advanced. It feels more safe and familiar to have it work like any other belt fed machine gun.

Project HL2 still have some jank. In the crossbow reload animation Gordon didn't pull the string first, he just slap the bar in and the string magically set to position by itself. Also the pistol inspect animation you can see the bullet stays in the chamber instead of following the rack when it's pulled. One other thing, it's subjective only for me but the SMG reload is way too fast. Both are good but i personally still choose MMod for it's more detailed animation, if they fixed Project HL2, it could maybe up to par with MMod
Also in Project HL2, there is no barrel for grenade launcher in mp5 compare to MMoD
far as I remember, the crossbow in HL2 itself is supposed to be motorized to automatically pull the string back since it's not like the rebels have the servo assisted strength of the suit
It's an automatized crossbow, the weapon model shows there's wires and a battery below the steel string

I honestly prefer the project hl2 mod, because the models stay more true to the original, while still being high quality. And the animations are also very high quality. Sure the mmod animations are more subtle, but the project hl2 manages to be exaggerated while still being true to the original animations. That’s why I prefer the project hl2.

The weapon models for Project HL2 were made by Juniez, all of whose models exist as standalone addons for HL2 Mmod, and have for about 3 years. They're all on Gamebanana, so mix and match to see which ones you want to use or not.

Project HL2's animations are FUCKING SICK
Especially the revolver imo
With a few exceptions, I think I like MMod's more for the most part. They feel more like updates that keep the spirit of the original game rather than complete and often over the top remakes like Project HL2. There are a few little details that Project did that I enjoyed though like examining the pulse cartridge and how the SMG sounded more like the original.
Both have great models, but the Project HL2 models are WAY too exaggerated to the point where its distracting. Also, the error at 4:11 with the round not being pulled by the extractor when pulling the slide to inspect the chamber on the Project HL2 USP drives me up a fucking wall.
The error in the Project HL2 revolver inspect animation (4:27) is annoying as well. The hammer is pulled all the way back, yet acts as if barely pulled back or at half-cock. That is not how it works.
Both get the SPAS-12 reload wrong, but many games do so I'm willing to overlook that.
The AR2 reload from both mods is cursed

It isn't cursed Mmod had to make ar2 reload Makes sense Since the vanilla hl2 Ar2 reload It looked like it had inf magazine.
How is that cursed, it makes more sense then one shell firing 30 rounds, the beta ar2 was a flare launcher that's why you reloaded every shot

MMod - Nothing fancy, but you can tell that Gordon Freeman himself is using these guns
I dunno man, I think MMod feels a little more thoughtful in what it improves and changes. The animation reflects Gordon's lack of proper firearm training, and the redesign of the MP7 makes the 2nd barrel sort of plausibly look like a grenade launcher.
Although I do prefer how project HL2 leaves the stock on the MP7 collapsed, and also makes the holosight actually visible in ADS.

I like MMods animations overall but I hate what they did with the AR2. Those magazines are absurd, something half the size of the rifle that holds 30 rounds
the pulse rifle still bugs me. It goes against the idea that the Combine are more advanced that us when they still use one bullet for one cartridge. Vanilla pulse rifle only used one cartridge for its entire magazine size indicating that the Combine has mastered weapons technology so much to the point that all they need is this tiny capsule to fire an mag's worth of projectiles.

The best way I could sum this up is:
MMOD is tactical, Project HL2 is tacticool
HL2 MMod: *nice and chill and smooth animations*
Project HL2: *AGGRESSIVE GUN SHOOTING, DEPLOYING, RELOADING INTENSIFIES*
I love mmod default, but I have ALWAYS hated the slow ass reload on the 357.
this is basically brutal doom vs project brutality but for Half-Life 2
honestly I prefer the more dirtier and rough textures the non cmb weapons have in MMod over the very pristine looking textures some guns like the .357 have
in general I prefer the dirtier and more worn textures for all guns, especially human weapons

It's odd but the Project HL2 mod feels like there's more volume and weight on the weapon models.

Ima be real, I like mmod more solely because phl2 looks like modern fallout.
The added details on the PHL2's models are nice, but not sure about the Crossbow. It's supposed to be built by the Resistance from scavenged parts, which's why it looks homemade/improvised. PHL2's looks manufactured.
the recoil in project hl2 is a bit too much imo. Shooting a pistol look like Gordon is shooting without trying to hold the gun back and about to cause a limp wrist. Otherwise I like some animations and their weight over mmod but mmod still look better overall
The one thing I give it is that it feels like og half life 2. The pistol's visual recoil was pretty stupid to begin with. Both are incredible work for a game from 2004. MMod is a little nicer but Project HL2 is a little more faithful
Shooting a real pistol in real life will give alot of recoil but gordon has a HEV suit maybe the recoil wont affect him that much i mean he can hold a crowbar with one hand.

What are MMOD and Project HL2?
All HL2 re anims in a nutshell; twitchy, exaggerated/too much flourish, and fast. No one has ever made a good anim pack that is faithful yet realistic.
I don't like the unnaturally smooth motions and weak recoil in mmod, and i don't like the spastic violent movement in PHL.

I like HL2
Honestly don't like either because of nitpicks I have. Project HL2 is way too aggressive, Mmod doesn't have ADS on the SMG and has misaligned sights, and both have inaccurate gun tropes like the HK USP's slide automatically being pulled back before the new magazine is inserted. Or Gordon haphazardly swinging the Colt Python's cylinder open which can damage the crane which aligns the cylinder to the frame. And the fact that he still spins the cylinder even though a real revolver doesn't let you spin the cylinder that freely when it's already aligned with the frame.
Honestly it's those little things that really bug me in games. Then again this is half life we're talking about. The guys over at Valve genuinely thought that the SPAS 12's tube magazine was a second barrel, like they've never held a gun in their life.
while all of these are true i think they're fun for the gameplay, rather than the realism. guys at valve aren't really known for making realistic games.

I might sound nitpicky, but the pistols sound way too powerful due to their heavy bass. The regular pistol sounds like it's a Deagle, while the Revolver is straight up a hand cannon that will destroy your house in one shot. The original HL2 pistol sounded wimpy, so I get why the sound change, but it's too much towards the other extreme. I don't have the same objection for the SMG or the shotgun in comparison.
Also the same objection for the explosions. The original sound was not "strong" enough, but now the grenade sounds like a C4 charge, and the rocket like it's a JDAM lol.
Not a fan of the sound when the shotgun is cocked. It feels so overused and not as good as regular HL2.
How to install mod???
MMod wins. Beacuse 9mm and m357 is not weird.
Everyone saying both of them "look too much like CoD" are the like the exact same idiots from the "Boss Baby Vibes" meme. Having nicer animations makes the game more like CoD, as if CoD is the only fucking FPS ever to have smooth or detailed weapon animations. ProjectHL2's are definitely a bit too over-the-top and not really fitting of Gordon's character but MMod's just look like a natural evolution of the vanilla animations, far smoother and and detailed without looking out of place.

Project HL2 models look nicer but MMmod has better animations, Project HL2 suffers from a common thing I see with weapon animations now where it's like they are made for a kid with a short attention span, they are to quick, look unnatural and feel like it's scared you will stop paying attention if you don't have an Ipad infront of you.
To anyone animating, timing and speed is key and 2 problems I see with animations is 1. it's either to slow and stuck at the same speed for everything, this will usually be seen with someone new to animation, or 2, it's way to fast thinking everything snapping is satisfying when it's not, cool gun animations aren't satisfying because they think the player has a short attention span it's satisfying because they use the 3 key moments with every weapon, reloading has unloading, loading and then the set up. it;'s mostly if not always in 3's , the whole animation shouldn't be fast, it should be at a nice normal speed but the 3 key moments need some snap to it, unloading the gun should fell nice, then them loading the gun should and then them setting it up like cocking it or chambering a round. For example an M1 Grand, they pull the pin back, it pings with a nice snaping animation with the click of it being pulled back, then they put the new clip in and push it down hearing a nice click, the animation is a nice firm push, then they cock it and let go snapping the gun forward and ready. this goes for all the other guns, feeding rounds, sliding a mag or clip.
Keep the animation at a good normal speed and have the 3 key moments of reloading be nice and have a snap or flair to it, unload, reload and chamber. no ADHD zoomer attention span animations, it's a problem I see with people thinking it's the satisfying animations people see in games, it's not. and stop having the recoil move at lightning speed with them being back and ready to shoot again at lightning speed.
