I like Firehawks but I have always dynamically balanced wheels when I worked at a tire shop. We never static balanced unless the customer was adamant about it. Anything over an ounce of weight at a specific location and we took it apart and check the rim first then switch out a tire. Any tire that took more than an ounce of weight was sent back to the manufacturer as being no good.
Thanks for another great video. My C5 needed tires when I bought it a Lil over a year ago. I did a little research and found a lot of good reviews about the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500’s. Do I put a set all the way around I have put about 15,000 miles on them since purchased and have been pleased with them 100%. They didn’t look quite as good as the eagle F1’s that were on it from the side profile But I got them real cheap through a friend that has a tire shop. I went with stick C5 size. I would like to go a little wider in the rear next time. Also tell your tire shop that when they mount your tires that that the yellow dot on the side needs to be lined up with the valve stem on the rim. That is why the dot is there or so that’s what I was told by several tire shops around here.
Thanks for the comment. I should have mentioned the dot = the light spot in the vid! and that should be lined up with where the TPMS is on the rim. I noticed the shop got both of mine pretty close - but not exactly on the stem. Something to ask for for sure when getting them mounted!
Always align the paint dot with valve stem. That’s a way to minimize extra weight. I found my C6Z took a lot of weight with my Firehawk. Liked the tires loved the price
Ha - Not a chance! I have backed it out of the garage when I need the space for a big Saturday project in the middle of winter and it barely makes it back up the slight slope to get back in!!
I'm in need of new tires. I'm interested in as wide as possible as I'm wanting the car to stick while cornering. I've heard about a square set up and the C6 larger wheel update. What IS the best set up to gain maximum traction in the corners. I've heard the stock wheel/tire size is the best design from the engineering standpoint. Also with the skid pad results GM shows. I'm concerned about fit and rubbing. Also I hope to upgrade to all 4 wide body fenders to accommodate wider stickier tires. And I've done a quick check at a local wheel tire shop and he said he had difficulty getting matching tire tread for 17/18" wheel combination. I want all the same tread pattern front and rear. WHAT IS THE CORRECT SET UP FOR MY Z06? HELP PLEASE, IM DYING HERE.😅😮😢 Signed Roadracer sick of waiting.
I honestly don't know. I haven't done a lot with straying from stock. Continental extremes a good tires though and so are Firestone Indy 500s are damn good too!
Recently sold my Mustang and got a C5 and looking to get it over 500hp to the wheels thinking about a supercharger I'm 18 and got 3k saved up at the moment so can't go out and blow 10k anytime soon. If you have any tips on how to reach that hp and anything I should upgrade I'd appreciate it.
Does anyone know how to safely remove the plastic chrome plated center caps on The Magnesium wheels? A wire spring type clip surrounds the plastic cover. Not sure where how to pry or push out from back? Thanks! This is a 2002 Mag Polished chrome
Not sure if it is the same cap as the alloy rims in this video. If it is, I always use a piece of wood about 70% the diameter of the cap, center it from the inside of the rim and gently push out allowing the cap to land on something soft. Plastic gets brittle with age - so I am super careful!!
Q: Am shopping for my C5 ‘Vert I hope to buy near end of this year or 1st Qtr next year. Am getting just a stock C5, and want to possibly cam/exhaust headers/heads someday, but probably not go forced induction. Car will be my daily and see a combo of city/Hwy driving. Am disabled (bad back) so want the most comfy ride quality and as quiet a car as possible. Also, the best value tires so I don’t spend a fortune since relatively fixed income. Need to know how much money to set aside for new tires in case my purchase needs this. Do you have any tire recommendations? And, run flats or not? I carry a tire repair kit, compressor, Fix-a-flat, etc. Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions.
How do you like the steering response on these tires? I’ve gotten a few sets of Nitto over my years and I’ve never really been impressed w them. I had some R888s on my z06 when I bought it and the steering response was insane and going from that to 555g2s has left me wanting more. I feel a good delay with steering and it’s kind of annoying. I can feel the sidewall flex on the tire and figuring that the delay or almost some slop w the steering that wasn’t there before. Stock wheels also but I plan on getting another set of wheels in 22.

Dynamic is best.
Good info - thank you!

I just got some firehawks myself recently and I've got to tell you what a huge difference these grip so good 🤩
Excellent tire for sure!
Great video! Many ignore the critical importance of tires. Bad decision,. Keep up the excellent instructional videos.
Thanks 👍
Love my Nittos! They are sticky and drippy and look cool.

Excellent point sir!
I bought my first set of firehawks this summer and they are the best bang for the buck in my opinion.
No argument from me sir!
Great video, same tires as I have and I believe bang for the buck they cant be beat.
They're definitely at the top of the list!
SWEET JOB ON THIS SUBJECT
Thank you !
I just ordered the hancook v12 evo 2s on the 11th. I didn't even know there were different ways to balance a wheel.
I didn't really fully understand it either. Thanks for the comment!
All set for winter driving!

You got me at pea brain! Another great video.
Thank you!!!

@@Toys4Life thanks for the reply, I'll have to hit the books. I know a spec racer I can tap for info too.
@@chrispery9002 That would be an excellent person to talk to!
Why did you choose the 245/45/17 to replace the fronts? I have stock 2002 z06 c5 with the 265/40/17 fronts that are no longer available
Stock size for the non Z06.
Awsome, now you need some nitto nt555rs for the back.👍🏼you'll hook second gear on the street
Those seem to be one of the best tires for higher HP cars - I may just do that. Thank you!

Save the money for a house or education or rainy day fund. If you are going to proceed anyways, my next question is do you have a manual or an auto?
Life insurance would also be great.
Michelin tires on the C5 what do you think
I am not a tire expert. My thoughts are Michelins are excellent but $$$. I think you can do just as well for less.
Pretty sure that yellow dot is suppose to match up with the valve stem to get the best balance out of the tire
Yep, it should be as close as possible to the heavy TPMS.
I have always went with Michelins runflat pilots, I like Firestones but here in the hot desert they crack, but I do like the sweat shirt (GO VIKINGS)
Lol... Thank you!

Hi, I would ditch the run-flats for sure. Tire type depends on if you drive much in cold weather (below 50F or so) or ever in snow/ice.

They seem fine and firm - but to be fair, it is colder here now so I have not put many mile on them yet.
Are they fun flat tires? 1:29
No, but they were bald! (I got my $$ out of them..)
Does this super charger kit work for both the LS1 and the LS6?
Absolutely
What Size front rim is that
17" x 9.5" I believe is the front C5 rim size.
Always 👌👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Wait, 600 at the crank? what'd I miss? LOL
A&A kit.
Don’t road force balance tires.
Why not?
