American Gigolo was shot in 1979 and second of 3 roles that Richard Gere took over from John Travolta with Days of Heaven and An Officer And A Gentleman. I’m really surprised that Fear City which is one of the best of the Shout limited editions isn’t talked about more. It’s one of Abel Ferrari’s best films with an all star cast and a history that is really unique which is a shame that Shout didn’t do more for it. Still if you like slasher thrillers this is great ones from the 80s.
My list of underrated blu rays are Red Rock West, Fresh, Fear City, Southern Comfort, Brother, Little Darlings, Bound, Bringing Out The Dead, Richard Pryor Live At The Sunset Strip, The Gift, 1982 Greatest Geek Year Ever, Joysticks, Capricorn One, The Substitute Collection, American Gigolo, Boiling Point, No Way Out, Blown Away, Sudden Death, NARC, Sleepless In Seattle, Doomsday, Born on the Fourth of July, Up The Creek (great comedy!) and North Dallas Forty.
2024 was my first year as a 4K collector. I only had a tight selection of horror blu-rays beforehand. Started in May, after we got our OLED, and I'm sitting on over 100 releases. My girlfriend and I are both movie people, so it's something we can share. I don't have to hide my buying habits like some of the guys I've talked to in this community lol Heathers absolutely blew me away. Arrow's version of Fear and Loathing looks insane as well. Bringing Out the Dead was a first-time watch for me and probably my favorite of the year. When it comes to more modern fare, I'd probably point to Alien Romulus. Finally, I broke down and ordered that American Pie deluxe due to your recommendation as well. Thanks for the help easing into the community, dude.
@midlevelmedia if you get a chance, check out the UK 4K of Strange Darling. Can't believe I forgot to mention that. Definitely my disc of the year. It's gorgeous.
The Friday the 13th remake was a first time watch for me and the biggest issue was that one dude. He was just so irrationally angry all of the time. His character somehow required more suspension of disbelief than Jason Vorhees.
Bringing Out the Dead was a great release, and Chinatown was in my top ten. Paramount Presents was killing it this year with titles. If only they hadn't done Once Upon A Time in the West dirty. I want Starman so badly but I can't bring myself to buy the whole box set. I almost buy American Gigolo at every B&N sale. Maybe I finally will this time.
Bringing out the Dead went oop months ago. I snagged a new copy off of Amazon after it had sold out there and another copy or two appeared out of nowhere.
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is one of my favs of the year. Been waiting decades for a decent release. Id like to check out American Gigalo at some point when the standard release hits.
I hope one day that we get a hellraiser 2022 physical release in the states and also Extraction 1&2. I love those movies and unfortunately their stuck on Netflix and Hulu.
You’re Next is such a great movie! Really hope we get a domestic 4k release this year. Side note you showed southern comfort on the thumbnail but didn’t talk about it in the video, what’s up what that? I really enjoyed that release. Nice video though 👍🏼
Lionsgate is going to release a 4K Steelbook via their Lionsgate Limited website.. it includes all the special features from the Second Sight Release along with newer features
I also collect the "Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection "( 1 > 5 I have in USA )" also bought buy the different Regio Versions: From Germany / Italy / U.K. / Canada. There is also a Version of The Netherlands I don't have this one ... My Neighbourland Release I am from Belgium ... The Flemish side ( We speak Dutch ( Netherlands ) / Flemish ) These releases 4K HD have Dutch subtitles ... Do you have other good titles to get for my Collection?
@midlevelmedia Its not a movie where Stewart plays on his typical passive "awshucks" demeanor. I don't mean that as an insult to his typical performances, but in this one he is more serious, angry and forceful. Which is welcomed.
Thinner scream factory blu ray was NOT their transfer, they went the lazy route and used the old transfer from olive films which is ridiculous. And silent night deadly night 4k doesnt even have the uncut version on 4k.....i refuse to watch a censored version of one of my favorite slashers for a slight upgrade in PQ......also its region locked so it wont play if your overseas.
Silent night deadly night is on my worst releases list..they region locked the 4k now im stuck with a 4k i can't watch until i fork out hundreds for a region free 4k player

I forgot Chicago back in 2002. So make that 4 roles he took over from John Travolta.

That’s awesome man! Glad this was the year you become One of Us!

Good to see Hush and American Gigilo get some love.
I highly recommend Memories of Murder 4k UHD from Curzon.
I think it's Bong Joon Ho's masterpiece!
Great movie, but I'm sorry, that's the worst 4K I ever purchased. The picture quality was abysmal...
Bringing Out the Dead was a great release, and Chinatown was in my top ten. Paramount Presents was killing it this year with titles. If only they hadn't done Once Upon A Time in the West dirty.

They definitely killed it! I still need to grab election!
To Die For is a great movie and one of the best 4K of 2024.
Not enough people are talking about Blazing Saddles which is mental. Its BLAZING FKN SADDLES! Goated comedy! And incredible 4K transfer too!
Chinatown took me two nights but it was excellent
I loved it.
Bringing out the Dead went oop months ago. I snagged a new copy off of Amazon after it had sold out there and another copy or two appeared out of nowhere.
I really loved the 88 films Project A set, but it was such a packed year nobody seems to even remember it anymore
Do you have a link for Friday 13th? Thanks
I prefer the sound of underappreciated
I thought Alligator 4k, by 101 films, it also included Alligator 2 The Mutation 1080p Blu-ray in a great box, was great.
American Gigolo 4K was one of my favorite releases of 2024.
I think the Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs remasters were excellent.
also underrated: Peeping Tom, Strange Darling
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is one of my favs of the year. Been waiting decades for a decent release. Id like to check out American Gigalo at some point when the standard release hits.
Gigalo is currently $29.99 on Amazon. Great deal for everything you get!
@@midlevelmedia that is a good deal!
6:09 I have a German blu-ray release
I hope one day that we get a hellraiser 2022 physical release in the states and also Extraction 1&2. I love those movies and unfortunately their stuck on Netflix and Hulu.

@@mark808ablethat’s awesome!
I pre ordered Tommy 1975 on 4K coming from Shout Factory late March
Nice! Don’t know too much about that one, but looks interesting!
@midlevelmedia are you a fan of Ken Russell?
Why is Southern Comfort in the thumbnail when it’s not in the video?
Right! That's why I clicked on the video! Thumbs down!
Ken i do not think all these releases are available in the UK
Speaking of Peckinpah, how do we not have Straw Dogs on 4K yet?!
I also collect the "Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection "( 1 > 5 I have in USA )"
also bought buy the different Regio Versions: From Germany / Italy / U.K. / Canada.

My Neighbourland Release I am from Belgium ...
The Flemish side ( We speak Dutch ( Netherlands ) / Flemish )
These releases 4K HD have Dutch subtitles ...
Do you have other good titles to get for my Collection?
I would love to see a best special features list
Nice! May do it!
If you want Criteron westerns get Winchester '73 starring James Stewart.
I definitely plan on it!
@midlevelmedia
Its not a movie where Stewart plays on his typical passive "awshucks" demeanor. I don't mean that as an insult to his typical performances, but in this one he is more serious, angry and forceful. Which is welcomed.
Hey, that was a little bait and switch because you put Southern Comfort on your thumb now but you didn’t put it on the list anywhere
Ohhh dang! I thought I did include that one! Definitely meant to. Loved that release!
Thinner scream factory blu ray was NOT their transfer, they went the lazy route and used the old transfer from olive films which is ridiculous. Have you ever seen the movie Schlock?
Had no idea Southern comfort was on 4k...
Checked Amazon AU and it $112au
Way too much
Pay $60au max
Not sure if they ship over there but check Vinsyn website -vinegarsyndrome.com/products/southern-comfort?_pos=1&_psq=southern&_ss=e&_v=1.0
@midlevelmedia they do, still $83au delivered. Kind of pricey tbh. Wait till Amazon drops it to around 60. Thanks
Second! Pat Garrett was underrated? People were dying for this release, as far I could see. Anyway, I myself never watched.
I can only speak from my perspective. Didn’t feel the interest amongst the collector community.
Good Idea must say, this not long arrived
Thanks!
i thought American Gigolo was a superb release
It really was!
bringing out the dead is sold out everywhere with ridiculous secondary market prices hopefully paramount will re-release
Their pattern for the paramount presents releases has been to do standard release six months or so later.
Silent night deadly night is on my worst releases list..they region locked the 4k now im stuck with a 4k i can't watch until i fork out hundreds for a region free 4k player
That's shit but, thanks for the heads up! It was on my list to import but, I won't bother now!
That's why you buy a region free player
Understandable. Only speaking for the actual release and the contents here. That definitely sucked for overseas folks though.
Rip using MakeMKV.
Well it was a US release only anyway sooooo…
