- R&B group Jagged Edge could’ve gotten lost in the abyss of other groups that looked and sounded very similar to them in the ‘90s. But they managed to carve out their own path right from the start and went on to achieve incredible success into the early 2000s.

Definitely! I work at a night spot as a bouncer and the dj played that track as the last song of the night and everybody hit the dance floor and started slow grinding with their partner.
Another legendary group that produced nothing but hits. Through all the drama endured over 25 years at least they're still putting out music till this day.

Same thing happened with 3LW!!! They toured with Jagged Edge and Naturi Naughton said she was pressured by her label and group mates to sleep with one of the members of the group. She was like 16/17 at the time.

Thanks for this. One drawback with their promotion is that they weren't marketed correctly. It wasn't decided if they were a rap group,r&b or all of the above because of their presentation. It was such a mixture of how they were presented and that wasn't conducive, looking back. I'm in my 30s now and definitely remember being perplexed as how to take it when I was younger.

What’s unfortunate with the musical climate today is that there are no record companies that want to invest their time and energy into developing and maintaining a black boy/girl group. The last boy group I remember being into was Mindless Behavior (and that didn’t last either). As far as girl groups there is FLO (British girl group). It’s sad..

Jagged Edge had a production deal thru Jermaine Dupri label. Jermaine Dupri got dropped from Columbia so their production deal fell thru. So Anjel just disbanded/went their own way.
I went to church with Richard and had the biggest crush on him. We were in the young voices together and I would try to stand close to him. But my mom to this day can't stand to hear Richard sing u mention Jagged Edge she say u knw that boy can't sing. But me I am a fan.

I will never forget Jagged Edge's song and music video "I Gotta Be" when I was a pre-teen, I still love the song today. I thought that was their debut song?! And I had their second album in my teenage years, I absolutely still love the songs: "True Man", "Promise", and "Lace You". I have heard a couple songs by Jagged Edge last year or so and I didn't like. 13oct22

Another great story! You had just a bit more info than their original Unsung episode revealed. Same ole story....very messy and tragic even even while riding high on chart success. I much prefer their older music anyway and can listen to on repeat all day. When they felt they just HAD to ride the auto tune train, I just couldn't. It's cool they are still sharing their talents though.

Bruh we damaging kitchen fans?!?!? He needs to stop drinking because from the stories I've heard once they get a little liquor in them they don't know how to control their emotions. JE had a reputation back in the day for destroying offices among other things. I can understand him being upset about his father's situation (I think in Unsung he said his father died) but to do all of that and then later on do some more is not okay. Money probably played a role in her staying as well as the love she has for him but love doesn't hurt in that manner.
They were simply messy. Yes, they are talented, but being talented and classy with manners are 2 different things.
One thing I never understood about Jagged Edge was how WHERE THE PARTY AT was such a banger and yet that album era itself went nowhere. Then their follow-up album HARD two years later was a distant memory. I dont think WALK OUTTA HEAVEN even did that well as a first single.
So So Def switched labels. Plus, Columbia had been angling to sign Jagged Edge outright for years.

One group still together and putting out music but they REALLY LIVE UP to their group name JAGGED EDGE.. I just would have never thought the ugliness of their attitudes and behaviors. Seem like you don’t hear anything about them and seem laid back.
