I like how Pearl's only issue with the crocodile thing was that Amethyst never commits when they do it
At this point, Pearl apparently has never made a connection with any of the humans outside of the Crystal Temple in all these thousands of years. To her humans are at best things that Rose loved, and competed with Pearl for her attention.

You’ll notice in the music that every character always is represented by a specific instrument. Pearl is piano, Garnet is bass, amethyst is Drums. Every time a fusion has music, it’s also represented in the music
Also Steven often has chiptune
We can also hear it in the intro, all 4 instruments are playing but it's Steven's chiptune, as the main character, that's the most noticeable
I think its worth noting that Steven was straight up disassociating at the start of the episode. Amethyst didn't even fully snap him out of it, lion had to go full therapy cat before he was able to shake himself off, at which point Lion immediately wanders off.
This isn't the first traumatic event that's happened to Steven in the show but its the first one where he shows a sign of actual literal trauma as a result

I am so glad that the cool kids showed this much appreciation for Steven. They understood what he was going through, and we’re trying to do their best to have him relax. Albeit, it involved being around machinery without any idea on how it functioned, but it allowed them to send a message to Homeworld. Earth ain’t backing down.
I think it was established that they can disregard common sense to have fun xD
The cool kids ate some of my favorite characters. Cause they aren't stereotypical mean kids. I feel like 99% of cartoons would have them pressure Steven into this because they wanna play with alien stuff and would bail at the first sign of trouble. But nah Jenny stepped in front of a giant woman with a giant gauntlet to protect him and then stood up for him. They all got shit in their lives and recognize what a kid needs to not be an emotional wreck.
It make sense that they kind of understand what he's going through in a small way. Each of them is expected to live up to someone in there life.
What they did was cool for Steven but incredibly stupid and reckless. Tbh garnet shouldn’t have gotten ridden of the punishment entirely but lighten it. But at the same time, what Steven did was very dangerous, like those teens would have died realistically. The only reason they didn’t was due to the fact of it being a kids show.

Songs in steven universe are something completely different, not just songs, but every character on this has his own instrument, and when dialogues appears the intruments sometimes are played in certain ways to tell something about that moment, about that character, it's a insane work put onto the show, and is just in the background
Like everytime Pearl is about to talk about “A Single Pale Rose” that jazzy, hard piano plays in place of her voice.
I love the full disclosure song. They way they incorporate the ringtone into the song

Full Disclosure is so good. And the song is amazing, and fits as a ringtone so well that I *have* had it as my ringtone (the instrumental part of just the ringtone sound and guitar) literally since this episode came out. I've considered changing it over the years but it's just too perfect, bc from the outside it just sounds like a normal ringtone.
The "You don't need this. You don't need me" line always hits so hard
joy ride is one of my favorite early episodes of steven universe its very uncommon to see teenagers act like good people in cartoons if it was the teenager squad from Gravity Falls they wouldn't defended Steven like that

@@witzitzilin yeah me too as much as I like Gravity Falls a lot it, was a very unhealthy friendship group where in my most hated episode The Love God Thompson literally pulled a Family Guy Meg resolve move of "if I be the punching bag then everything will be fine" here in Steven Universe we really get to see these characters with their own background and what they deal with, one of the biggest things I like in Steven Universe is how we get to know the people in Beach City all have their personal problems and feel like real characters similar to Majora's Mask where you help everyone in Clock Town in the side quests
I LOVE how the topics of this show are so good for mental health. Steven NEEDED to be heard and be felt validated for everything hes going through. He can talk to connie but connie has also been with him during his discoveries of his gem half. Having a group of "outsiders" who only know him for his human half not only listen and him confide in them but also validate and stick up for him and be the actual therapy he needs is so so good. Him being able to just...be a kid. Not a gem from a war torn planet. Just a kid.

fun fact, for a long time while the show was running Ronaldo actually had a legitimate blog on the internet. and Peridot had her own twitter or something similar going for a while keeping pace with the show. Was fun to see.

If you look at the intro, there are falling stars in the background for each Crystal Gem; for Garnite it shows 2.. Which is a small Easter egg about fusion
Something that i think isnt clearly communicated early on in the show is that Connie and her family dont actually live in Beach City. Her Dad sometimes works there, which is why she was there when she and Steven first met.

I agree the lyrics to Full Disclosure aren’t measured super well (the “until now-dad always seemed apprehensive” transition has always bugged me). But I do like the song overall, and it serves a really neat purpose: now we have an easily recognizable musical shorthand for Steven pushing Connie away, and it can play diegetically whenever she calls him. Any time that ring tone sounds we are instantly reminded of this episode and this song. It’s not overused but it definitely comes back.

We caught a small glimpse from the Rocket episode of how much stress Steven puts him under but here it’s in plain sight. As the story gets more and more intense his eyes are practically dangling from his skull. I’m genuinely impressed Steven’s antics haven’t killed him yet

Full Disclosure is such a good song to me because not only is it so catchy, the way Steven portrays his feelings about everything that happened before really just makes me sob lol like he doesn't want Connie to be involved in the traumatic dangerous shit that he's in... Full Disclosure makes him vent and really just t a l k about his feelings and about how he actually acknowledges the seriousness of this situation. I. Love. That. Song.

At the end of Full Disclosure, Connie and Steven recap the problems that season two will be getting into. However, they don't know the half of it.
I like how the show presents moral topics, but doesn't become dogmatic; there's no unquestionably "right" answer that the creators want to hit the audience over their collective heads.
I was lucky enough to watch the show before engaging with the fandom. And, yeah. It's a lot (I have blocked so many tags and people on Tumblr from the SU fandom alone). Glad you are sticking through it despite them.

Funny story. After my-at-the-time roommate convinced me to watch Steven Universe, I got to this episode and had to go so I could make it to my LGS (local game store) to play some commander, I had this song stuck in my head and was humming it, and one of the people I never would have expected to recognized it.
The song had a pillows/flcl feel to it.

No yeah it's definitely a discord thing. When I watch your channel, I always know to watch your reactions to moments from top left>top right>bottom left>bottom right, because there's enough of a delay in each that I can see all of them without rewinding lol

I know what you mean about the singing in Full Disclosure. It's a very specific genre... makes me think of some of the music in Juno and WTNV. It's kind of talk-y on purpose, but it can be off-putting if you aren't in the mood for it. It does grow on you tho

It would feel more emotional as to why Steven was shunning away Connie
