Was totally not expecting this to be an early Trying Your Luck when I first clicked
the Strokes should definitely make a B-sides record with all of these demos + all of the songs not on the other records

Julian had one of the best ideas of all time to put this filter/effect on his vocals, event hough he has a great voice
It was actually their producer's idea. Julian suggested it be toned down to what it turned out to be. Brilliant tho.

its so cool to see the evolution of the lyrics, the solo, the bridges... all the details they changed till the trying your luck release, it makes me realise how patient we must be to create a song and how talented the strokes are

I absolutely love this demo. At the end of the solo, around 2:36, it reminds me of Only in Dreams by Weezer, and I invariably have to listen to that song afterward.

Great track. Was an early version of Trying Your Luck (titled This Life, of course), recorded for a 2000 Demo they recorded. It also included studio versions of The Rhythm Song and In Her Prime.

He didn't forget his lyrics. This is an early demo of "Trying your luck" which was originally titled "This Life". That's why it sounds just like Trying your Luck, but slightly different.

I actually liked the Red Album quite a bit (including the bonus songs in the deluxe edition) and Make Believe was interesting, but their latest offerings are not listenable... I think the hardest thing to overcome for Weezer was they connected so emotionally on their early stuff, and changed as they aged (as we all do). Eventually it seems like all bands have to create songs based on generalities, and it becomes less personal (except for a few, like maybe Bruce Springsteen).
