解体新書を著した杉田玄白、前野良沢が蘭語を翻訳したエピソードの一つで"フルヘッヘンド"が取り上げられています。簡潔に書くと、鼻がフルヘッヘンドした"という文と"木の葉がフルヘッヘンドした"という文の二つから、"高くなる"という意味を読み解いた、というものです。
だが重要なことが一つ。解体新書の原書、ターヘルアナトミアにはその記述は無い。
