I watch this, and it makes me remember the drum parts I used to come up with with my band. I then cry. Time to hit the woodshed again. This is fantastic. It's usually hard to keep crowd attention in instrumentals. But not for these guys.
Very often, in a band, the drummer is pretty invisible while the singer gets all the attention and sometimes, a good gtr player also gets some attention during a gtr solo. Here, however, each single pair of eyeballs in the room was staring at the drummer!!!
Cant believe this band name! I had pared down my wifes nickname from bear to cub...then finally bearcubbin...exact same spelling in my mind. Did not know a pumpkin named his band this prior to my nickname assignment. Small world. Go Bearcubbin!
Dixit Dominus Billy isn't a douche, he just says what's on his mind, which is what the music business needs more of. Too many "rockstars" nowadays just keeping their mouths shut and ignoring everything that's going on. Billy is a refreshment, to me.
i would never disparage the level of expertise required to pull off a song like this, but i feel compelled to say that at least the genre seems to box-in any potential for 'round' lyrical or melodic playing... it feels like "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" played on crotales instead of a celesta if that makes any sense
Oh man, the music biz can be so incredibly cruel. To go from playing with the pumpkins to this crap? Brutal. I'd probably off myself. Dont get me wrong, dude wails, but IDK how someone could cope with that.
+Eric Sandoval Except much more emotive than Battles ever could be or would try to be. They're not really comparable unless you're just referring to looping and using an octave effect on the guitar as the basis for their similarity.
Eric Sandoval All I'm saying is that calling someone's life work a "ripoff" of some other band that doesn't sound very much like them is pretty harsh and inaccurate. Yes, Bearcubbin' has sited Battles as an influence, but they create authentic and unique music that's their own. On a side note, I really like Battles, but Bearcubbin' is a band that is currently putting out quality material. Battles' La Di Da Di is simply more of the same at a time when Bearcubbin' is a fresh band that's evolving.
it's near the end of 2020 and i'll love this band forever
Good for Mike, this shit fucking rocks. Its about time he gets to do what he wants to do.
My god, i wanted to know what happened to this guy who was Smashing Pumpkins' Drummer and i didn't expect to be math rockish. I love it!
YEAAAAAAAAAH!
Bearcubbin’! once played a house show in Vegas. To this day one of the best performances I’ve ever seen! Miss them
the drummer is simply amazing and this bands sound is so new and refreshing. i love it!
Mike is so damn clean
Dat drum tone.
I watch this, and it makes me remember the drum parts I used to come up with with my band.
I then cry.
Time to hit the woodshed again.

Definitely a Battles vibe on this.
i watch this video every couple months and it still gives me chills. all of it is amazing.
TTNG Sent me here and I'm glad they did. Niiiiiiiiiiiiice :)
Wow! Wtf that was amazing so tight and crisp I mean the musicianship is out of this world!
Cant believe this band name! I had pared down my wifes nickname from bear to cub...then finally bearcubbin...exact same spelling in my mind. Did not know a pumpkin named his band this prior to my nickname assignment. Small world. Go Bearcubbin!
Those drums are insane
that drummer is insane good
Best fuckin' live session.
this will always be fucking amazing
Love your amps dudes
They remind me a lot of Toe. Very few bands let the drums take the lead instrument, and I love it
If you like this, I strongly suggest "Ka Ba Ta Bo Da Ka" by "And So I Watch You From Afar."
@Mutemath -- Paul Meany, meet Mike Byrne. Mike, this is Paul.
Simply love it. I really hope that you guys will once come to Europe.
Reminds me of Big Country. Killer musicians (Bearcubbin as well as Big Country).
Wow! what a drummer! The other guys do a great job too but the drummer is superb
Make sure to check out the guitarist’s new band, Layers in Lairs. Sounds a lot like this. Released in 2024. Not currently on TH-cam
really wishing someone could work out the entirety of the guitar tab for this song, would love to learn it, incredible band and incredible song :)
Great video, better band.
Is Mike still drumming?
Ovo boli koliko je dobro.
Ubija :D
newopensavereplace O da :)
***** !
Kickass drummer. Sucks he left Smashing Pumpkins, but this band kicks so much ass.
***** Depends. He was making a hell of a lot more money in Smashing Pumpkins, but Billy kicked him out because he was being a little douche.
+Space Boy Billy is already kind of a douche. So 2 douches don't go along.
Dixit Dominus Billy isn't a douche, he just says what's on his mind, which is what the music business needs more of. Too many "rockstars" nowadays just keeping their mouths shut and ignoring everything that's going on. Billy is a refreshment, to me.
+forevertobeginning That makes no sense at all.
Fuckin swag
Great band.
Color correction on this is p. ruff.
That is absolutely fucking awesome. That's like on the same level as the red hot chili peppers.
I hope you're joking.
What the genre of music Bearcubbin? Math-rock? like Toe, LITE, 65daysofstatic, etc?
post-rock!
Math rock
TTNG T shirt. Wouldn't have guessed.
He left Pumpkins to do this
As he should, this is on a whole different level of greatness
He was kicked
Double pedal or nah?
I was wondering the same. But I'm pretty sure it's just single pedal, and his doubles have been tightened with a wrench.
Beeray11 actually its all in his right hand with the floor tom
***** Double Kick he means
Nah
It's a single pedal with alternating doubles between floor tom and bass. Byrne is tight...

thanks for the epileptic seizure mr video editor.
Jesus, Lord have mercy.

Battles ripoff
+Eric Sandoval Except much more emotive than Battles ever could be or would try to be. They're not really comparable unless you're just referring to looping and using an octave effect on the guitar as the basis for their similarity.
Willem It's incredible that you know what Battles is capable of without actually being them!
Truly a gift you have.

Not really similar.. At all. You clueless douche cake
+Joe Rogers Someone's new to music.
Sadly, this is very contrived.
