    Have you ever replaced the VU meter lamps?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They have all worked since I got it so I haven't had to replace any of them. I sold the RM804 a few years ago to make room for more gear though.

    hey there, if i were to go direct out from the mixer channels into my interface and DAW, do you know they are post fader and EQ?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the direct outs are post EQ and post fader on the RM804. It's a fairly simple mixer but it sounds really good. I think you could still bypass the EQ and fader by using the access send instead of the direct out but the EQ sounds really good so I always used the direct outs.

      @@GriffinJenningsMusic Thats great! I made a lot of good recordings with mine. I really like the mic preamps for drums. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot!

    Are the RCA inserts able to be used with outboard gear (external effects/ EQ) if I were to remove those jumpers?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that's what they are used for. They are -10 level so make sure the device levels match it are close.

      Thx for the heads up! btw, my interface is U-Phoria UMC 1820. I noticed you mentioned they are usually switchable from +4 to -10@@TwinCreekAudio
      Are most audio interfaces "switchable" as an automatic conversion via the cable adapters rca --> 1/4" or will I need to figure out how to setup manually for the interface and any outboard device I might want to use for insert
      ?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @user-ff8in9kw8j there is usually a setting in the driver to change the line level though some older equipment may have physical switches. Yours should have the level as a setting in the driver software control penal as it's newer.

    Lovely looking deck. Just my cuppa tea. It's kinda like an upgraded Tascam M-30 or M-106. Wish they were more common. Chances of finding one in the UK would be slim, I reckon.

      You might be able to find one of those or their larger models like the RM1608 or 2408. The RM804 is really good and I only paid $50 for it on eBay about 6 years ago.

    Hi, for the 1/4” echo output and returns … do you use a TS 1/4” plug or a TRS 1/4” plug? Thanks!

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am pretty sure you can use either TS or TRS but the RM804 echo send is unbalanced like the tape connections but on 1/4" connections instead of RCA. This was likely done because effects processors in that era(late 80s) tend to use 1/4" while semi-pro format tape machines like the Tascam 38 use unbalanced connections on RCA connections. So Yamaha made the tape machine connection unbalanced RCA and the Echo unbalanced 1/4". A TRS cable will still work but the connection is unbalanced. This isn't usually an issue with shorter cable lengths.

    Great description! and thanks for the manual. Today I'm setting up this mixer in my home studio, I'm a drummer, I do drums tracking, also as a composer and producer I do sync music and other things, so this video and the others on your channel are very useful! THANKS!

    That demo really sounded great so raw. What mic did you use for the vocals?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a Rode NT1. The original NT1, not the NT1-A. It wouldn’t have been the Yamaha preamp on vocals so it was a Presonus MP20. The Yamaha doesn’t have phantom power.

    Hi, Thanks for the review, do you know the difference with the Yamaha MR version ? (RM vs MR :-) ), Thanks !

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The MR is the green colored one right? I've used the live sound version of those and they sound great! The RM is most likely older than the MR and the MR has more features. The RM804 is pretty basic but the RM1608 and RM2408 have more features. The MR looks pretty good to me. I think all of these are unbalanced -10 for the tape connections but that's really not an issue if your cable runs are short.

    Hey!
    can you put some demo of built-in echo?
    Thanks!

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RM804 doesn’t have any built in effects. I’m going to get some new cables so I can demo the mixer more though. It has EQ and an Echo send but that’s to connect to an external device.

    If you've never used a mixer how easy is it to set up and what do you need

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main thing you need is 2 RCA to 1/4" snakes to connect the direct outputs or group outputs to a tape machine or an interface and back to the tape inputs. The full manual is at the end of the video too. They are simple mixers but are a little confusing without the manual. They also do not have phantom power for condenser mics but the mic preamps sound very good.

    I have this exact model and I'm only scratching the surface of what it can do. What would be the typical setup for mixing my buses on this if I connect it to my audio interface. So far ive been using only 2 channels on this. And would love to use all 8. Will it better to connect through the inserts or the tape ins?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally you would use the tape inputs and then press the button at the top of the channels to tape. That would bring your interface outputs through the channels and you can then choose 2 of the buses for your stereo mix. Just assign all the channels to the same 2 buses and then use the outputs for those 2 subgroups to print the mix back into your interface. I'm traveling right now but I'll try to come up with more information when I stop.

      I sent you a message that hopefully will explain how the mixer works a little more clearly It is a little bit unusual to use so it took awhile to get used to it When I get back to my studio, I'll look at it in person so let me know if you have any other questions.

    Can you sum everything into one stereo track?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can in a way but this board doesn't have a stereo master. You can use subgroups 1 and 2 for a stereo mix. It has a stereo section but thats like a second set of channels meant for monitoring tape tracks from a tape machine so it won't have access to the EQs or inserts. I think it's designed to the use 2 subgroups for the final mix. I put screenshots of the entire manual at the end of the video and that might have more clear information.
