This is such an important skill to have! I really like how TKD has its own unique way of utilizing position in a combat situation, and I can already see so many applications of this tactic! I bet it’d be great for a double kick too. Or maybe even a good heel to the side of the knee with your front leg, followed by a rear leg kick to the back of the head to mess up the opponent’s equilibrium (Street self defence of course). Just letting my imagination run a little wild here, but thank you for the detailed description, sir! Eagerly awaiting the next lesson!

Definitely useful as a double kick or a follow up to a previous atrack. Carry on letting your imagination run wild.

Thankyou so much for sharing your videos. I was awarded my black belt 40 years ago, by Grand Master Sahota and through different reasons, I didn’t train again for 19 years! I am now back at 59 master Tajinder Sahota, his son.
Your videos have been so helpful in starting to relearn my patterns alongside the training. Thank you so much.
I am interested in the dummy you are using in this video, so I can practice my kicks etc at home. What would I need? I am 161 cms tall.
    Thankyou again

Send my regards to GM and Master Sahota, it's been a long time since I last spoke ro them.
The dummy I use is called BOB made by Century. It is adjustable in height so it will be ok for you. I bought mine from Bytomic.com.

What do we use for leg kicks? Can we use Dollyo Chagi for that as well? If so, how?

Also, I've always been told that upon completion of the kick, your knee, hip & shoulder should be in a straight line( though that may only be true of side turning kick). So, when chambered, your knee, hip and shoulder are in a straight line with your knee acting as, almost a gunsight. Does that sound correct?
Also, do you push with the hip in turning kick as you do in front snap kick?

I have 1st dan and I've been discussing precisely about this in our club. We were always taught that dollyo chagi ended in basically the same position as yop chagi (the body is in a straight line) but when I read the encyclopedia of Taekwondo and started doing research on this, I realized that this made little sense. Dollyo should not end with the body in a straight line. I really wish to get an answer to Mr. David Barnwell's question as well, because what I saw GM Nardizzi do here never actually looked like a straight line in the end position, not even when performing yop dollyo chagi (though it did look straighter).

If as a beginner you don’t have enough range of movement / flexibility to get the leg high enough how do you master this?

Shotokan practioner here, the ball of the foot hurts a helluva a lot more than the instep. My instructor hit me with the ball with of his foot and believe u me that hurt like hell. Bone digging into my bone ribs didn't feel pleasant at all.

    Please can you advise?
What is the difference between side kick and turning kick? I can't make it looks different. 😩

    • @DonatoNardizzi

Turning kick uses more knee action so the foot moves in a curve. Side kick uses hip and knee so the foot moves in straight line.
