    Hi John, I'm in the planning stage of the new layout & this is one of the subjects I was not sure about ! Luckily I found your vid, well explained, I think this is the way to go. many thanks for sharing & the easy to follow guide - much appreciated............Andy

      Hi Andy. Glad you found the video useful. I've been gradually adding some more to the layout. Trains kept stalling on the exit point from the fiddle yard no matter how much I cleaned it. Fitted an autofrog and it works perfectly again. Great piece of kit in my option. Cheers, John.

    Thank you so much for that very informative video. I'm just about to fit mine alongside two or three Peco Surface/Sidemounted point motors (fitted above wooden bracing) which don't power the frogs or determine polarity like my sub-surface Gaugemaster Pl-11 point motors. You've made it crystal clear what I have to do, for which I'm very grateful. Also a nice unpretentious and kind to beginners style of delivery.
    I'll be catching up on more of your videos.
    Thanks
    William

      Hi William. Thanks so much for your comment. I try to make my videos straightforward and unpretentious. I find quite a bit of snobbery about certain things and ways things should be done in model railways, and try to show that there are more cost effective and simpler ways to do it.
      These gizmos are great. Mine are still going strong and I've got a few more to fit around the fiddle yard. The points with them fitted work flawlessly.
      Cheers, John.

    Hello, what your are doing,is what I am doing to all my points, just now, it's a great bit of kit,
    and they do work,but can get expensive, if you have a lot of points, was great to hear about the push in connectors,wish I
    knew about them earlier,would have made life so much easier, like the video,look forward to more.

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I did a lot of searching online for those connectors as I knew there had to be something like that. I've got around 20 points so I'm just doing the autofrogs 3 or 4 at a time to spread the cost. Glad you liked the video. Cheers, John.

      Hello John, your making a great job of it, all my layout has been built, I also bought the Autofrogs over time,my layout is being built,
      by watching and learning from people like yourself and other TH-camrs,too many to name.stay safe.

      @@greengiant1258 I'm exactly the same. Watch loads of other videos then get ideas myself and try them out. I find it very therapeutic.

    Good method for dealing with the frogs, as you say those connectors make it a much neater job.Well done

      Thanks Geoff. The connectors are ideal for this job, I could've used them for track droppers too if I'd thought about it when I did them. Cheers, John.

    Hi, I will be using these very soon on my layout so it was nice to see how simple it is to use... Not sure if anyone has had this problem but I had one of them frog wires from the points break off when I was testing track before laying and had to solder a new frog wire to the point itself. I got my worried watching the video and seeing them auto frog hanging from the frog wire.. But all in all great video..

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peter. Thanks for watching and commenting. I've never had that problem before. I've secured the autofrogs to the bottom of my baseboard now because I was worried the wire wouldn't take the weight. They are a great bit of kit and I've continued to gradually instal them round the layout. Cheers, John.

    Hi John - Those connectors look a lot easier than the Choc blocks I have been using can you repeat again what make they are . I have just started putting in lights so anything to make life easier is much appreciated......Cheers Kev

      Hi Kev. They are wago electrical connectors. If you type that into eBay you'll find loads of suppliers. They come in 2, 3 and 5 connection blocks. They really are the way forward, so simple to use. Cheers for watching, hope you're doing well. John.

      @@medwaypeninsulaMR Nice one, if you've done a video of that it will be good for me to watch. Contemplating lighting myself but not convinced it would make much of a difference to the layout.

    Hello. Great video and great explanation. I am using the frog jucier which is simply the same I believe. Question as I am using peco electro frogs turnouts and shinohara as well. On the peco do u have to cut the wire on the gaps to make it work or just leave it alone and it does the rest. Also where did you get the connectors from that connet to your bus. What are they called. They look much simpler. Great job

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for watching, glad you found the video helpful. I didn't cut any wires on the points, there is no need when you fit the autofrogs. The connectors are called Wago 222 Electrical Connectors and I got them from eBay, but they are widely available. Cheers, John.

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The connector that clamps round the bus wire are called blade splices. You can get them from many places, I used Express Models as I first experienced them in their DCC No Solder Power Bus Kit.

    A very informative video as I am quite interested in using them as an alternative to the frog juicer which is more expensive.
    If I may add: It was not easy to follow your explanations due to your accent as I am not a native english speaker.
    Best wishes

    Two points running from the same toggle switch in conjunction with each other, can they use the same Autofrog?

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian. Sorry I've no idea. Electronic stuff isn't my strong point. I'd suggest contacting Gaugemaster about that one. Thanks, John.

    I am still a little confused about the autofrog's functions. Do they actually change the points as a pointmotor would do?

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phil. No they don't, I still change the points manually. What they do is provide a permanent, reliable power source to the frog from the bus wire and switch the polarity to what is needed each time a train passes over. Cheers, John.

    Hi John would it have been better wiring your points correctly when you where laying your track. Wiring would have been easier, saving a lot of effort, time and money. just my opinion

    • @GreenhillJunction
      @GreenhillJunction  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Wiring correctly? The points can be correctly used this way or the cutting wire way. If I'd went down the route of cutting and resoldering the wires that would've led to the expense of buying point motors and polarity switches, which I didn't want to do as they are much more expensive than the autofrogs. I wanted a simple and inexpensive method of powering the frog, which the autofrogs provide, whilst manually operating the points. It's really down to what method suits your needs, and your wallet. Cheers, John.
