I'm (very slowly) bringing my own (Jeremy Rogers) contessa 26 back to life and your videos have been a constant inspiration over the last few years. I Thank you for taking the time to share these.
Just found your channel. Great content and very instructional/helpful as well. Just got my first sail boat, have dreams of eventually hitting the big ponds on a bigger vessel, not sure if i am to old to start this way of life.
Nice work...good to hear the updates....mine is taking forever as i escaped the British winter ...back at it soon ,,,,more vids to come Regards Daren (All things Contessa 26)
Thanks for all the content. I’ve watched all your videos. I am refitting a ‘79 Shannon 38 ketch. Sometimes I think I have bitten off more than I can chew. Would love to chat to you sometime.
Echoing comments from @brianhepworth4854 below. Working on my own 1980 Jeremy Rodgers Contessa 26 here on the Gulf Coast and enjoying it. Your videos are truly inspirational. Had a quick question stemming from this one. Just replaced my garboard plug with a new Sea Dog and a countersunk bronze plug following your experiences. The old one was buried under fairing compound I think which was holding it in perhaps. What do use as a thread sealant when installing the new garboard plug before launching?
Thanks for the comment. I was using Teflon tape on the garboard plug and just tightening it snugly. However, I may very well end up using either some permanent red Loctite or even 5200. When I need to remove it, I’ll just have to heat that area with a torch to soften the Loctite or 5200. Depending on where I end up sailing to, I may very well just glass it closed yet again.
Butyl is far better than 4200 for above water applications as long as it is under compression… hence the covers. On two of the covers, I couldn’t get the screws to hold, so I used 4200 under those two covers to adhere them. The butyl was still packed into the slot with the chain plate though and still no leaks.

Thanks for the comment! Age shouldn’t be an issue…there are plenty of people who started sailing in their 70s and are still going well into their 80s.

On the chain plates did you have more luck with butyl or 4200?
