Can you hear the difference? Let me know!
You sound fantastic on all those mouthpieces, as always. It's pleasure listening to you. What tenor saxophone is that in the video?
Thanks! I’m using a Cannonball Big Bell Stone series tenor in this video.
Hey Allen, I have a Cannonball Big Bell Stone series Gerald Albright model all in black Nickel awesome tenor sax!@@AllenMusicTalk
Congratulations on starting your second TH-cam channel!I'm very interested in purchasing a saxophone one day and I'm sure your videos will be very helpful!
Thanks! Let me know if you have questions about getting a new sax!
On TV speakers it's evident Ottolink is the brightest, then B. A is definitely the darker sound. Then I used my headphones to check again. The metal mpc are definitely brighter with C the brightest especially on the high notes.
It will depend now on the ease of blowing as I think the Jody Jazz can be as bright by adjusting the treble controls.
They say pick a mpc that would make you want to play more of your saxophone.
Such nice performance!!!
Thank you!
Sound really great on all of them man haha, but if I had to choose it would def be B!
La opción ( b ) es que más me gusta
or is it tamber?
Thank you for this video!
Question: Can you get that crisp sound that you hear on this Tenor on an Alto?
I feel like, everytime I hear an Alto (which I‘m also playing) it always sounds quite soft. Not airy, soft. And when I‘m listening and looking for this crisp sound (like in the Detective Conan theme or in Homecoming by Green Day at 5:30) it always turns out to be a tenor sax. Is that a thing? Or is it an issue that can be solved with the right Reed, mouthpiece, over-/underblowing?
Thanks for asking! Most tone problems are a combination of your technique and your equipment.
The first thing that I would do is experiment with different reed strengths and cuts (every reed is different, even from the same brand). Changing your reed and working on your tone consistently should be enough to get you close to your ideal sound.
The mouthpiece will make a difference too, just be aware that if you change your mouthpiece, you’ll have to experiment with reeds again to find one that works well.
@@AllenMusicTalk So you're saying it is possible to get that sound I described from an Alto Sax?
I love the Synthetic Legere American Cut reeds on my tenor sax with an Otto Link 7 hard rubber mouth piece!@@AllenMusicTalk
I have still the original Selmer mouthpiece on my Selmer soprano….and practice on 3,5 VanDoren or Légère 2,5 which feels too light…
Maybe I have to change my mouthpiece??
Do you know the tip opening of the mouthpiece?
@@AllenMusicTalk
Selmer S80 F
A reed between 2 and 3 would work well with that mouthpiece is my guess. 3.5 may be too hard depending on what sound you like. It might help to use a reed chart to see exactly how hard your reeds are though.
@@AllenMusicTalk Ok, thank you!
not worth the bother changing unless it feels better to you the player. Sound timber is pretty much the same.
I can’t hear the difference. Your embouchure is what makes your music sound rich, dark, soft or whatever. Diaphragm, throat, mouth, tongue, what did I miss???? Not the mouthpiece…
