My cousin was a green belt in Okinawa-te and had been to a number of tournaments. The best fighter from his dojo was Bob Denik (sp). Norris challenged him one one occasion. When the kumite started Norris stepped in and hit Denik in his face splitting his lip and it started bleeding. That should have meant a disqualification at that time. Denik looked around at the judges and none of them did anything. He figured that it was a set-up because Norris was the perennial favorite. So, Denik did a fake which Norris went for while he hit him in the chest with a heart punch and Norris went down. The next year, Norris challenged Denik again. And again the same thing happened ending the same way. There were favorites in those days. Chuck Norris was promoted as the top. Who knows who else would have been promoted if it wasn't Norris?
All these guys were living in Bruce’s shadow, taking lessons from him or too scared to confront him in person when he was in LA during the 60’s. But they sure talked a lot of shit about him later on in their own demeaning or back-handed way. Not Benny or Richard, but many others.
@ yeh, the most renowned martial artist of the last century apparently couldn’t fight and is only famous for making movies for a year and half from 71-73. What a ridiculous thing to say. Liking your own comments 🤣 sad. Not one bit of proof? I think you should look into other things besides “sport” and your go to evidence. You know fuck all about this topic you clown.
Bruce did NOT Compete ! He was a Child star in Hong Kong. His Dad was a Director. Bruce came to Hollywood to continue his Acting !!! Highly skilled yes, but he did NOT do the Tournaments .
@@grichard7580 what nonsese is this? Bruce didn’t go to America to “continue his acting” what’s with these false narratives you clowns keep pushing? Bruce had no interest in getting back into acting until he did the green hornet from 66-67 for 26 episodes. He made movies for a year and a half 71-73 AFTER he moved back to Hong Kong in 71. He moved to Seattle in 1959. He didn’t do any acting for 7 years after this period. His father was not a director either. He was a Chinese opera singer and occasional actor. Bruce Lee ended up in Hollywood entirely by chance because he was discovered when he did his 1964 long beach demonstration by Jay Sebring who then told producer and actor William Dozier about Bruce. Also, don’t like your own comments.
Did a workshop with Richard Norton and Benny in Melbourne in the early 90s I think - great people - I also trained with Richard's number 1 student, Chris Stansfield, brilliant man.
I always held the intention to be a student with martial arts. I always wore a white or red belt wherever I trained. The belt colour never interested me. Being recognised for skill never interested me. It was all about testing my own limitations.
Some people who are good social dancers have a similar perspective, they're willing to be a total noob learning a new dance style and eventually there's a synergy that can happen when similar styles can combine and fuse. They have to be willing to go back to be a beginner for a while and sometimes unlearn techniques learned in the other styles.
We're so lucky Steven Sea 💩 Gull taught these guys how to fight and beat them only using his hands. I think it really humbled them to achieve such greatness
Great interview. I trained at the Jet Center from 1989 until it closed in 1994, and was co-author of Peter Cunningham's book, "Civilized Warring." Richard Norton and I trained together one evening in one of Pete's classes at the Jet Center. As Petey put it, "Snake, you're going to work with Mr. Norton. He's preparing for a movie role, and I don't want one of these bums (the other students) giving him a black eye." 😂
Great video! Such a humble man. I went to the Jet Center in the late eighties, and learned some Ukidokan. Never physically met Benny, I did see him in passing at his gym and meet his cousin Smiley or it was Blinkey (so long ago now I can’t remember which cousin), but Benny’s entire family, even his sister, were all fantastic fighters, very dedicated, and all very humble and wonderful people to be around.
I love the comment of Chuck willing to be a student. I know of individuals that have used me as a crash test dummy for their students and not wanting to learn a suggested new approach.I respected the little man's training area and just stop attending.
Richard Norton! As a kid I was first introduced to Mr. Norton in the great Hong Kong films of the 80s and 90s that would play on late night TV, like USA Up All Night and other places. Those are the movies that made me fall in love with him, Jackie Chan, and Cynthia Rothrock. I could never remember Norton's name back then, but I always loved seeing him because he was so great at playing (usually) the mustache-twirling bad guy, AND fighting like a madman with his amazing, super-tight, flawless kicks. I had no idea he trained with Chuck Norris and Benny the Jet. That's so cool!
Cool to hear another great interview. Also, maybe you should get Chuck Norris himself on the interview. Would be cool to hear his martial art and movie stories directly from him.
Well MJW lost his bet against Vlad in the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight so he must be right about saying Bruce Lee was just an actor and he could beat him in a fight 😂😂

And of course Chuck and Benny! Great stories
All these guys were living in Bruce’s shadow, taking lessons from him or too scared to confront him in person when he was in LA during the 60’s. But they sure talked a lot of shit about him later on in their own demeaning or back-handed way. Not Benny or Richard, but many others.
There's not one bit of proof that Bruce could fight, only word of mouth.
@ it’s funny you would say such nonsense with your avatar is the joker, a comment by a clown indeed.
I met Mr. Norris in the early 80’s at century martial arts in Midwest City, ok. He was quite a humble man,an example for all of us
Did win world championships several years, and was an absolute beast of a puncher kicker and grappling as well!
Richard Norton sounds like a guy you could talk to for hours.
Cool guy.
I always held the intention to be a student with martial arts. I always wore a white or red belt wherever I trained. The belt colour never interested me. Being recognised for skill never interested me. It was all about testing my own limitations.
I like the fact that Chuck Norris doesnt have an overinflated ego like most martial art movie stars.
It's very inspiring to see sensei Norton still wearing his Zen Do Kai Bushido cross i remember those days great memories.
Chuck Norris is the real deal, a gentleman, genuine and a good example of how to be an actual adult.
These men are legends.
Absolute legends.
I trained at the jet center for two years, Benny is a great guy great teacher
Sensi Benny! Great dude! Fighter, Teacher, Stunt Man, etc...
I remember his school in North Hollywood.
I saw Force Five as a teenager in the 80s. Still one of my favorite martial arts films!
Wow, I wouldn't have recognised Richard.
Richard Norton looks more handsome than most guys half his age. Martial arts really does make everything in life better.
Movie....The Octagon. Richard Norton plays a tough guy and the ninja enforcer and fights Chuck. Greatest Norris movie.
Visit Huntsville TX, Navasota TX and you just may bump in to Chuck Norris.
Chuck & Benny would be impressed with GSP, how humble & dedicated he was during his career.
Awesome talk ❤.
That's so cool!
thanx matey. great video and nice insights
Cool to hear another great interview. Also, maybe you should get Chuck Norris himself on the interview. Would be cool to hear his martial art and movie stories directly from him.
You can´t get Chuck Norris to do this kind of thing but you can get his son Dakota, I think. He´s also into the martial arts. He´s also on youtube.
@@Katzenhase Why? Let me guess, Chuck does not want to do interviews anymore?
He's a living Legend & in his 80's . Leave that good Man alone. He's Earned it !!!@@deathcold_longplaysua4846
My Sensei Scott "Conan" Mincey trained with Chuck and Benny. I love hearing him tell stories about the old days.
Well MJW lost his bet against Vlad in the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight so he must be right about saying Bruce Lee was just an actor and he could beat him in a fight 😂😂
Excellent interview, lovely bloke Richard.
Very interesting guy and very modest for a guy with a great history
Great interview, the rolemodels of Martial arts
