    CAUTION!! Many scammers are using the comment section to promote their scams and sometimes even use the name “99Bitcoins” in their profile. Never send money to someone you don’t know and don’t accept offers to trade or exchange cryptocurrency from strangers.

    Saying that the big block camp was led by bitmain and Roger Ver is pretty off the mark. They were just two high profile supporters of increasing the blocksize limit among many others, including the most relevant businesses and original developers. (Coinbase ran XT and was completely removed from Bitcoin.org because of it. Satoshi explained explicitly how the blocksize limit would be increased in the future. Gavin Andreson is on record saying that Bitcoin Cash is the project Satoshi left to him, before the people he brought into the project kicked him out. He also introduced BIPs to increase the blocksize limit. Mike Hearne rage quit over the fact that, as far as he was concerned, the Bitcoin project failed since the Bitcoin community was so effectively hijacked by folks pushing for small blocks. 90% of miners signaled for blocksize increases, but were terrified enough of public confidence going down and lowering their profits that they let social astroturfing and the extremely vocal minority decide the future of the chain. The following businesses and miners supported increasing the blocksize as well: OKCoin, HaoBTC, Genesis Mining, Multipool, F2pool, Antpool, Bitfury, BTCC Pool, KnCMiner, BW.com, Slushpool, Paxful.com, Bread Wallet, and many others.)
    Also, saying that Segwit "effectively reduces transaction size by 75%" is almost sort of true, but very misleading. It just moves the signatures away from the transactions and stuffs them somewhere else that un-upgraded nodes won't look for them, so that those nodes still think there's a 1MB blocksize limit, even though blocks could now effectively be bigger than that when including the transaction data that's stored elsewhere. It's really a kludge of an upgrade, all so that people who didn't care enough to upgrade their software could keep following along with the chain.
    You conflate raising the blocksize limit with *not* making it more efficient, when BCH is actually extremely dedicated to increasing efficiencies, because its developers realize they **have to** in order to keep the larger blocksizes manageable by the network, reducing centralization pressures that will show up at many times the current transaction throughput! Layer two solutions like the lightning network are welcome on the Bitcoin Cash chain as there is demand for them, and will actually work better on BCH than on BTC because layer two solutions still require using the "Base Layer" to do things like open and close channels.
    Currently, the blocksize limit is COMPLETELY NEGLIGIBLE as a centralization pressure compared to Mining ASIC costs and electricity costs. In fact, the small blocks have been a bigger centralization force than large blocks could have been for a long, long time. It hurts smaller miners that have to join pools, where those pools make regular payouts to the individual mining operations... but those regular payouts cost transaction fees, which are much higher when the blocks are artificially limited, disproportionately decreasing the profits of smaller miners. So there has been pressure for miners to merge so that a smaller percentage of their profits get sucked away by fees, or even until they are large enough to solo mine instead of staying independent. Not only do small blocks have the drawbacks you mentioned in this video, they actually make the problem people say they solve MUCH WORSE.
    The highway analogy is completely useless because the analogy doesn't accurately reflect the underlying technology. Technology is constantly improving, leading to "more land" available all the time.
    Roger Ver did not purchase the Bitcoin.com domain to promote Bitcoin Cash. He bought it to promote Bitcoin, which is digital cash. When BTC stopped being digital cash, he switched to supporting Bitcoin Cash, which still worked as digital cash.
    You said Bitcoin Cash doesn't support the lightning network, which is straight up misinformation. You don't need segwit or a malleability fix to create the lightning network. (It just makes the coding easier.)
    Bitcoin Cash's most recent difficulty adjustment algorithm is actually MORE CONSISTENT than BTC's. It's algorithm at the time of the fork was an emergency measure to make sure the chain would stay alive in the case of very little hashpower.

      @300dionysius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The point I get from this lengthy explanation is that Bitcoin is an unfinished product, and as long as its own community is fighting amongst itself competition is enabled. The only thing missing is the flashpoint for a proper network effect that competition needs to overtake Bitcoin with all of its forks. BTC will be overtaken one day, and it will be from more than one alternative. It may take a while to get there, but this market is moving fast as it is.

    • @Tennouseijin
      @Tennouseijin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, listening to 99Bitcoins I was wondering "If one camp wants to optimize bitcoin, and the other camp wants to increase block size... why wouldn't the big block camp ALSO optimize? I mean, it just wouldn't make sense for Bitcoin Cash not to include optimizations made by the small block camp? And why would the big block camp be opposed to lightning network?"
      In other words, the 99Bitcoins explanation left more questions than answers.
      So, (assuming Bitcoin Out Loud is telling the truth), that would explain a lot.
      Yeah, if an optimization has major drawbacks, that makes sense why Bitcoin Cash wouldn't adopt it. And if Bitcoin Cash is in favor of lightning network or similar solutions, that also makes sense. After all, it's clear Bitcoin Cash is still not a good solution to make micro transactions by itself, so another solution is needed.

    Although we have invested in compression algorithms, we also have better and bigger drives, that can handle more data and are much faster (like SSD cards).
    The main issue with not adding more space to the blocks is that it hurts adoption right at the beginning. It doesn't matter if you can download blocks with a tamagochi if the fees are so damn high people will dismiss it.
    BCH will eventually need better ways to scale than raising the block size, but it needs users first.
    Just another food for thought: I'm a barrely connected region in central Brazil and my network would take only 20 seconds to download a 32mb block.

  • @roncollins644
    @roncollins644 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Bitcoin Cash is actually closer to being what Satoshi intended Bitcoin to be. The larger block sizes enable it to outperform BTC. You will soon see people transferring from BTC to BCH as it is almost free to move around and their gains will have a much larger potential because of it's lower price and there is much negativity regarding BCH that is simply just propaganda that will slowly fade away. BCH will be more stable due to it's growing and soon to be massive user base. Have you googled SmartBCH yet? Imagine using BCH as gas to move ERC-20 tokens...

  • @trflw

    Lightning Network and Segwit are failures for BTC. They don't help BTC at all as any new spike of users will lead to high fees. People promote LN without understanding that LN has many problems. In order to use LN you need to open/close channels which still uses BTC blockchain meaning if fees go to 37usd again, you would have to pay 37usd to open a channel. Also, every LN wallet is hot wallet and vulnerable to attacks. Wallets have to be 247 online to receive funds. The LN network has to lock up extremely large sums of money to fund LN channels and all those have security risks as they are always online. LN is absolutely non profitable, the capacity of the network is falling because there's no point locking up so much money and not getting any profit + the risk of losing the funds when LN exploits happen. Also, the BTC roadmap is to move transactions offchain to LN, people dont realise that in 5 years BTC block rewards will go down to 75% so in order to maintain current security of the network, user will have to pay average $60 fees per transaction. That's ridiculous. BTC is a perverted version of Bitcoin. By contrast BCH is aiming to scale on chain by having many transactions with small fees which bring revenue to miners and help secure the network even after block rewards go to 0. BCH can scale long term but BTC cannot scale at all.

    The segwit size is not reduced by 75%, it is actually **increased** by a very small amount. The 75% refers to a fee discount for the witness data and allows transactions to have a cheaper calculated fee cost.
    Segwit itself does not remove any data, and the small increase in size is metadata to allow the signatures to be treated differently.
    Despite this, I believe a segregation between the data is a good thing, but that it should've been done as a hard fork to reduce some of this added complexity.
    Furthermore, I think this video mostly does a good job at explaining the differences, but when it tries to explain the reasoning behind the small and big blockers decisions, it simplifies to a point where it is easy to make the misstake to think that a blocksize increase is the only scaling mechanism that the big block supporters want. Big blockers building on bitcoin cash have, as proven by actual fork upgrades, implemented changes that help scaling in more way than just the blocksize.
