Chappy's Challenge 1 - Alan Barnes Tackles The River Ribble

- With only a short afternoon/evening session at their disposal, cameraman Chappy challenged 'Barnsey' to catch a barbel from the Ribble, a venue he has fished for over forty years. Time wasn't on his side, or was it? Surely evening sessions are the key to catching on this famous river?
Anyway, we won't spoil it, enjoy this half hour or fun and frolics to see how Alan got on under pressure...

Great film chaps and really cracking chub Alan. Often traveled that section of the M6 and always wondered what the fishing would be like there, so thanks for letting me know!!
It can be awesome, just hugely unlucky to not latch into a barbel, there are plenty around that area up to 10 lb, maybe bigger, but in my view Alan passed the challenge with his magnificent seven chub! ;)

Nice video, lads. I know that stretch and think it was good fishing to get that catch out in a short session, especially how low the levels have been lately...it was only pot luck that you didn't get a barbel out of there.
A combination of feeding sparingly and not wishing to spook the fish. They endure lots of feeders, probably making them wary. Alan used a feeder to introduce some stuff at the start.
I'd gathered that after watching it a few times........I must try that myself, rather than leaving the feeder on all day as I usually do...many thanks

brilliant film mate. can you tell me about the stretch you was on? is it the day ticket you get from the BP station? or another ticket. also what rod licence do you need? sea trout and salmon or non-migratory trout and coarse licence? also how many rods can you use 1 or 2? also is there a closed season on that stretch till 16th june? thanks again good vid to watch...
Yes from garage. ALl rivers in England are closed to coarse fishing till June 16!!! Two rods when open, standard license.

Fishing with pellets is not a challenge ! Anyone can chuck a pellet in for big fish. Pellets have destroyed some of our rivers!

good fry year for ribble but heavy predation from cormrants and very bad farming practice in low oxygen times are a killer !!!
