    Mr. Drifter I'm just another person with a comment but I do want you to know that there needs to be more people doing what you do. Not only do you give excellent game play of video games, that many people are interested in, but you give those people who think very narrowly a chance to broaden their scope of life. You have the potential to give people the ability to think for themselves, and that is a gift. Now I'm not saying that this field of philosophy needs to be studied by everyone, for it is esoteric, but by giving them, people, a structure that they can build upon is a noble action; especially in this day and age where social revolutions shake the very foundations of outdated traditions. You give people, however small, a potential for better understanding and compromise for compassion, and for that, this feeble person, writing such a frivolous comment, says thank you. :)

    But we can't even simulate a human mind, the amount of atoms and atomic interactions are far too complicated for any computer in the foreseeable future can handle, and foreseeable is an understatement -we aren't even close. Moreover black holes do follow laws of physics, my aerospace engineering heart aches hearing that portion, we've seen them eject energy and supercharged particles as they can become too massive for themselves -there's even a handy formula that can show you how much mass/size one can handle. They even follow our current knowledge of momentum and gravity, having their own angular momentum (how kind).

      Francisco Cardozo They follow all known physics laws because we haven't found any exceptions so far ever and having a black hole violate any set of laws would call into question the existence of black holes. Until your reach the tiniest of scales, all laws of physics are never broken, and even at the tiny scales there are laws to explain exceptions

      I find it interesting that if you extrapolate relativity a black hole will function as a separate universe from my limited understanding.

    • @dezzygenc
      @dezzygenc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We can't simulate a human mind...now, but as Driftor paraphrased Elon Musk in that if we assume any sort of advancement in technology we will reach a point (if humans are still alive) where we may able to simulate a mind, multiple minds, a universe, and maybe even more.
      The logic checks out, we just aren't there yet so you can't necessarily claim that it's wrong.

    Consider our current computers. They are made of logic gates. Logic gates cannot become infinitely small because you can't control electrical current on that scale. So in our current machines, there is an upper limit where eventually we cannot get any more computing power, disputing the claim that for certain we will eventually have enough computing power to simulate whatever we want. In other theoretical machines, like quantum computers, we don't know nearly enough about them to create theories on how they could simulate anything. The idea around 1:05 in the video about knowing the position and motion of every particle in the universe is irrelevant. It is impossible to know both. And the reasoning that "well, our programming just prevents us from knowing things" is radical skepticism, and if you accept that school of thought, you're going to find yourself in many, many paradoxes.

    Drift0r, I really enjoy these philosophical commentaries.
    They are one thing I have enjoyed watching for a long time now, some even several times.
    It's a shame these commentaries don't always do as well as other your videos (looking at the views) since they are in my opinion your best videos... alongside with personal commentaries, it's always fascinating to listen people tell about themselves, their problems, their life, stories and struggles to get where they are today.
    Looking towards the next "crazy" video :)

    The simulated universe theory reminds me of someone having an ant farm. The ants never would really know that their life can exist outside that glass box, just like there is a chance that we would never know if we were in a simulation.

    Drift0r you should do a video on what is consciousness and what makes us aware? Will we ever understand how it was created. Cause if we did, we can possibly recreate ourselves. Or does our bodies control how we feel? Without a body there is no soul or anything like that. Would we have the ability to think without being able to feel anything.

    Another thing common to simulations are maximim limits. Take skyrim for example. If you have (2^32)/2) gold, and you pick up 1 more septem, just 1, your ballance becomes ((2^32/2)*(-1)). This is because the value of the amount of gold you have is stored in a '32 bit signed int'. Once you go past that hard limit it wraps around the the other side of the int and becomes negative. Its the same problem that youtube had on gangnam style.
    Also, on an unrelated note, when you go past the hard limit, in our universe, of the speed of light, the rate time flows relative to you goes negative. Just a fun fact.

    The funny thing is that the physical laws in our universe are actually not that different from what happens in a computer. First: there is no edge. A computer can run an endless loop, as well as simulating an endless strip of space, continuously updating itself to become 'bigger', while actually, there is no increase in 'physical' space. Also, there is a pixel size. The Planck length is the smallest amount of space possible. A Planck 'cube' would therefore make a nice pixel size (of order 10^-35) for our universe to be rendered in. There is a maximum update speed as well: the speed of light. No object or particle with mass can go faster than it and getting close to it results in time distortions and increase in mass, or what we call lag in computer games. Anyway, those were just my ideas. It might be true that we're living inside a simulation, but who cares? it is not going to change our daily lives and it's a pretty cool simulation after all! enough stuff to explore and funny easter eggs along the way!
