Great video, Jake. My dad wore these types of boots as a Davey Tree foreman from 1926 until he retired in 1973. My job as a kid was to unlace his boots and pull them off after he got home every evening. I doubt they were the same quality as the JK Boots, however. His pants were really cool. The were snug from the knees down and tucked into the boots. The thighs were wide--kind of like "jodhpurs" --very comfortable and they sure looked cool.

Terrific video Tim! I'd like to know the smells, the feel of the leather being sanded, that smell. The pressure needed to stretch the leather. All of those things are really where it's at and give a complete experience as far as how the best boots are made.

Thanks for this awesome video for us boot afficionados! It's an extremely rare privilege they granted your filming request. I'm sure Wesco, Nick's, Whites, Hoffman boot companies wouldn't have done that. Legal would prolly not allow it as they spend millions on P/R, customer service, legal, marketing, and advertising, so everything has to be exactly in sync and perfect facing the public.
I've had Wesco make and rebuild 3 pairs of loggers/lineman's boots of different heights since 1983 and make one pair of 18" engineer boots in 2014. A couple things stand out that perhaps you should mention to JK Boots. An "L" steel heel plate protection that's fitted between the Vibram heel and the oak leather part to prevent the climbing spurs from shearing those two pieces apart, even with screws. Second is an optional leather lining to prevent soiled socks from boot oil. The boot fit needs to be adjusted slightly for the smooth leather lining (no sock staining either 😊). My last pair in 2014 was $475 with 6 weeks lead time. Today it's $880 with an 18 *month* lead time. 🤯 Have you ever tried on Wesco logger/ lineman boots? Thank to you I'm considering a JK two tone gray roughout logger/lineman boot. I just like the way they fit and feel on my feet. Forget Geogia, Carolina, Tec, Red Wing, and Chippewa boots. They don't go the distance today. Crocs??! Get rid of them dang thangs! 🤣 John.

While Custom made boots are the top of the heap for guys that can afford them. I've found (and I'm not trying to sound like a commercial here) but I tried a pair of over the counter Bailey's "Red Dawg" linemens boots built for protecting the upper calf and shin area (where I gotta have extra protection) then I took that pair of boots that fit me perfectly in fact so well they are my most comfortable pair ever in all my years on the mountain falling, anyway My wife took this new pair of boots to our local boot repair guy who installed Calks in them so I could wear them everyday in the timber and I can not say enough about these boots and they were alot less than a pair of custom built boots. Now all the guys who work for us (we own and operate our own Mom & Pop Logging Company) wear these boots but in the regular height uppers and they all really really like them.....just saying it's an excellent option if you can't see laying out that much for a pair of customs.

Yeah thanks I just didn't want to come off like a jerk or some damn salesman making a pitch. I've had Hoffman boots, etc. But the price of getting into a pair is like crazy expensive but I do understand how important comfortable and durable boots or Calks are as well...if your feet or ankles ain't happy....you ain't happy and fatigue sets in (especially on really hot days like today for instance) that's when accidents happen and I don't want hurt nor our Son or any of our crew of guys either so my post really was to say this....if you can afford custom built to fit boots by all means do it....but if you can't but still need great fitting great quality boots that are built in my opinion just as good as customs....in my experience the Bailey Red Dawg boots hand made in Canada are in my opinion the top of the heap of over the counter, off the shelf boots.
No offense intended to your guy there that earns his living making boots or anyone else who has the skills it takes to do that....they have my respect.....by the way tell Inbred Jed us Fallers here in the central mountain states say "Howdy"......lol.
