I remember when this was on Top of The Pops in the mid 60's. It doesn't seem that long ago but I guess it was. Damn I'm getting old! love the song, you've got another subscriber, thanx! :)
Now there's one I haven't heard for... well, a long, long time. Very cool. (the other evening I found myself singing Georgy Girl, which must be about the same era, eh?) Great cover, Songtruth. Thanks.
I've always loved the innocent nature of this song both in the words and how it's sung. You bring that same innocence back in your version. Very nice job. Take it easy.
I like your versions better than all the originals. I kind of wish I had an app to change everything I hear into your voice. Oh shit idea! You could be like the new Alexa you know like the computer voice thing. Thats like Jetsons shit but we really havd that. Imagine if they did bought your voice tone? The royalties you you get forever. Crime rates and traffic accidents will go down cuz you sound all cool. I think of weird stuff. But seriously this is my new favorite.
Lol with the combo of being beautiful and having a beautiful voice im stumped I think a wile back I had ask if you would try this song and of all covers you did well But its a hard song for anyone to pull off if you cant be loud with it lol Petula screamed it I mean if you watch old video's she has no mice in her face. and yet she kept the right tone and that was the beauty in her voice and i think you could eazly be compared to her thank you for breathing life back into one of my faves
I am just getting over a bout with severe kidney stones, This just PERKED me up into a good mood. You always do a great hit, when i need to hear one. Thanks for re adding me. Thank you!!!
@@songtruth Hi it's just with your unique and beautiful voice which has natural depth and a lot of feeling within it that would be very difficult for someone else to replicate. ...You really feel the words.... .Thank you 👍👍👍
Nice one, this song been getting a lot of air play on my local radio station, you sing it so well, full marks. Do you do anything by Crystal Gayle. Best Wishes Mark
Even though you posted this on Nov. 15th, I saw it for the first time today on Nov. 17th which just happens to be my birthday and I'm gonna be going Downtown so it was very good timing. Thanks for another great vid! I liked the gentle way you sang it. Perfect for that gentle bossanova. Petula who?? ;)
Hi Neumeg. Ah, I wasn't really dissing Petula's version. It's a classic and deservedly so. I just always heard the song as a quieter piece which is why I liked how SongTruth sang it. You're right though that Petula sold a lot of records with this song - in fact she re-recorded it three times over the years.
I love your soft voice~^-^ It always give me a piece of warmth. It's getting cold in Korea. How is states? Take care. P.S:Do you go out with anybody? Well, I remember last year(?) when you did 'love actually thing'. ^^
Sorry Rocker, wasn't trying to imply that YOU were dissing. I was (awkwardly) trying to agree with you. That is to say, that proclaiming Truth's version as being so nice isn't an indictment against the original. Sorry I stumbled through the first comment.
To:songtruth Concerning going out, it's negative ^^; After breaking up with my girl friend(technicaly I got dumped), I feel like to be a moron who isn't likely to believe 'love'. Well, it's cool. Thanks to your songs, I can get relief. That's good for me. Thanks. P.S:I hope you can go out with a cute guy soon. ^-^ I'm telling ya~
I certainly agree Rocker that this is not a recasting of Petula Clark's version of the song. I wouldn't diss Pet's rendition - it sold an awful lot of vinyl. Truth give it a more subdued performance. Nicely done Truth.
Thanks! Seriously though, even though it's a classic I always felt that Petula Clark sang the song too strongly. I like your rendition better. :) And don't even get me started on Spice Girl Emma Bunton's version...
You know I'm a fan, but I'm going to say it: this song is just too "light" for you. Your voice has kind of a depth and sadness to it, and this bit of fluff is not well suited. I hate to sound negative, because, as I mentioned, I'm a fan, and I can prove it, because I LOVED the Marty Ballard song, and the Carpenters stuff you do, so don't think I'm hating on you. I think YOU are great. The song? Not so much.
Returning to listen. I never get tired. Thank you

Thanks, Thomas! Why do you say it's difficult?

love your voice with its Karen Carpenter-like timbre, but keep working on the timing, please keep on singing !

Very Nicely Done. A few of the "Downtowns" seemed a little off the beat though, You can work on the timeing on that. Nice Job though. Thank you.
