Got a couple things wrong. Edifier uses real lambskin leather, not leatherette. Also, the S3s were Audeze drivers, but the S5s are not. The S5 is more of a new headset, not exactly building on the S3. They're actually very different with very different sound signatures. Other than that, good review. I like the comparison, but Edifier moving away from Audeze was worth noting. I imagine it was related Sony buying Audeze.
Correct on the lambskin error, there. As for the drivers, Edifier has neither confirmed or denied whether it's using Audeze tech, but based on the specs (dimensions, etc) and visual assessment, I'm inclined to believe that it's at least derived from (or reversed-engineered and improved-upon) Audeze planar mags.
@@gearupaaron Respectfully, I don't think that's correct. It's very clear that the S5 are not Audeze drivers. On the S3, the drivers patient are owned by Audeze and there's publicly available licensing information on that. On the S5, the patient for the drivers are owned by Edifier (again, public information). Even if you look at the measurements for the S3 and S5, they look completely different, objectively. Edifier has been making planar magnetic headphones since 2012, they don't need to reverse engineer the Audeze drivers as they have their own tech. In fact, the only reason the S3 existed was because Audeze tried making a BT headphone, but had to abandon the project, so they licensed the design to Edifer, but like all licenses, it comes to an end.
@@TheQuickyouknow In conclusion, brother, which one has the better sound quality? Is it worth spending a little more money and getting the S5 instead of the S3?
They look like a really nice pair of headphones. I really like the mesh earpads! They fit nicely too. A little out of my price range but a great option. I really like your headphone stand too. Pretty funky🙂
I was excited on the S5 release because of new planar design and mutliple bluetooth codecs I have the Stax S3 for 8 months now, happy with the overall sound/tune but I wish it had abit more volume like 3 more clicks I went to audition and was set to buy the new S5, sound is good but lack's the loudness I'm after, it's about the same overall volume level as S3, both does not have ANC and overall volume for me is not loud enough to use in noisy enviroment. Then I listened to Focal Azurys..WOW !! cut a long story short I treated myself to Bathys..lol
I’m coming from old school headphones. Right now I’m going from 1More Sonoflow. Now, Your comment exactly answered my question about a pick among S3 (US$125), S5 ($330), Maxwell ($300) and the Bathys ($555). I’m after the sound and use outdoors. I’m tryna make up my mind. In the end, I find that for the money it’s hard to beat the performance of the Focal Bathys as it has good ANC, a sound close to the Harman Kardon target curve, and 24/192 DAC inside.
Hi guys, i am an audiophile and i like to listen smooth and soft instrumentals like symphonies and western classical and i also like neutral and balance sound. Can you suggest how about it's performance in symphonies and western classical because I'm planning to buy it.
Hey brother! Can you help me with a question since you know far more than me?I prioritize NC and comfort and I have these options;(edifier WH950NB, sony wh750b, 1more sonoflow, anker soundcore q30 and space one)what option is better?you can sugest something else if you know 😊
Thanks for watching... The comfort part is rather subjective, so try them out if possible. For NC, I'd give it to the Space One (first) then the 950NB. Hope that helps.
S3 basically never sold above 300 bucks. 500 is almost double the price for just build quality upgrade. I see absolutely no reason why anyone would spend their money on this over S3. 500 bucks isn't cheap guys, you can get a far better sounding headphone on wire, and you can get a proper, full feature wireless headphone with that amount. They NEEED ANC to sell something even remotely close to that price.
@@gearupaaron i see deal for 220 eu where i live, considering to get them i just hate when people hear what i listen, for now im with planar IEM, would you think its worth getting them? Thank you for your quick answer! Im talking about S3 tho

Thus this sound better than the maxwell? i just wanna know because i have a maxwell which is cheaper and also plan to buy this if it sounds better.

Excellent review. Can you please review Soundpeats capsule 3 pro plus as I enjoy your unbiased review ? Thank you
Man, in Russia we have another prices! S3 is $200, S5 - $450. It's about 2 times more. Ьфчмудд сщыеы $500
I'm tempted to try that planar magnetic sound, but do agree that MSRP is too high for build and aesthetics.
Fwiw, the S3 (at its current price) is quite tempting actually. It's so good and accessible that it's been one of my daily drivers.

Well, stay tuned... I'm testing out a tech yard sale platform... Maybe you can snag one of these expensive gear for way less. 😁

If Edifier doesn't have Auracast capability on it's latest STAX Spirit S10 earbuds ($300) & STAX Spirit S5 headphones ($500), it baffles me.
I think that can be activated at a later point if Edifier chooses to do so.
What about soundleak?
Very very minimal.
