The oldest myths of the Norse appear to show that Odin was the original trickster or that Loki and Odin started out as 1 god before they started the be separated and take seperate forms. It's difficult to know for a fact because the usual Christian interference and changes that happened everytime Christianity took over and wrote the stories down. Altering them and even kicking many out when they couldn't be changed to better fit the Christian ideas of religion and life. It's a shame but without them writing so many down we might not even have the little we do have and you can try to sort out the original from the later adaptions a bit.
