    the difference between 2.2 and 3.0 is the reliability , in my family we use both vitos and sprinters , the 2.2 liter can get up to a million kms with only one or 2 turbo changes , injector reconditioning which is normal for all diesel engines after a few hundred tousands , and regular maintainace where as the 3.0 is more expensive to fix and can give you more troubles than advantages in the long run . Thats the only reason why the 2.2 is used on nearly every single mercedes model and why the e class from germany used as taxi always has the2.2 engine which is actually a 2.15 in reality but marked as a 2.1 and 2.2 on mercedes models but they are both the exact engine and exact cc if you check the log book .

      I would totally agree with this statement if it wasn't for the seriously high mileage V6 ambulances out there. They tend to get brutally bad treatment from cold and still seem to last. I've no doubt it costs more to maintain but I'd always say it's worth it.

    Good review. I've just bought a 3.7 V6 Petrol Viano V350. I've had T5's, Transits, etc and the speed and smoothness was unreal, also the toys you get, for the money I couldn't beat it.

    Great and complete review !!!
    I'm from Argentina. I have a 2004's Viano W639, medium size (not short, not XXL), 2.2 Cdi (150 CV, 6 speed manual gearbox), 7 seats, Jasper Blue metallic color (with - non serial - 17" AMG rings), and it's wonderfull and beautifull. I love her !!! (for me is "she", as a ship).
    It's for familiar use (4 children). We did a lot of long trips (Argentina is a big country) on hollidays. Is very confortable and has a great luggage capacity. In urban use, the assisted steering is superb and his turn radius is amazing. We never used the 2nd row inverted, to avoid any passenger sickness. Just once I retired the seats, and they're very heavy and difficult to relocate.
    Here, in Argentina, almost are 2.2 Cdi medium lenght (as mine).
    Thank you for the review and congratulations from the south of the world !!!

      @Crypto Tiene 150.000 km.
      Solo le cambié las pastillas de freno, la correa poly-V (de accesorios), una cruceta que tomó juego y el bombín del pedal de embrague. La verdad es que mecánicamente es un tanque. Lo criticable son los plásticos: he tenido Renault con plásticos de mejor calidad que los de la Viano, pero salvo eso es una súper nave.

      @Crypto No te podrìa informar porque se trata de una Trafic del año 1993, de primera generacion (un diseño francés de 1981), que no tiene absolutamente nada que ver con la Trafic de 3ra generación que se produce actualmente, y de la cual no tengo ninguna experiencia personal.
      Días pasados ví un video muy interesante (y muy bien fundamentado en las estadísticas de las aseguradoras británicas) acerca de la fiabilidad en las furgonetas:

      Other people might disagree but if Mercedes do one thing well it's the commercial market ............ well except for that Citan and X class situation......... I own a Citan and will be doing a video on that at some point.

    Hi from Sweden!
    Can´t agree with you more.. I've got one of them. X-long, Black leather, 3 liter V6, black ash interior, digital AC panel, and the three nice sunroofs. It´s certainly a really nice car with it´s smooth ride and strong engine. Though it´s really economic with full load on vacation for example. Because of our climate in Sweden, i´ve got the seat heating in my panel and of coarse km/h instead of miles. Furthermore i´ve got theese captainschair and i fully agree with you it´s really heavy. Instead of the originally Mercedes refridgerator i bought a similar compressor fridge from a boatacessory store. Very handy and really cool drinks or food. At the same time you´ve got a really practical table for the frontseaters, perhaps when you take a break.
    Can´t say anything else than a BIG recommendation for a W639! A nice familymember.

    Just watched your video and fully agree with you. I had a Vito 2.2 for 19 years as a wheelchair taxi and covered over 350,000 miles without missing a beat ( the new owner say`s it`s mileage must be less as it is so smooth, but I spent 9 months on the net looking for a Viano as I wanted more " toys " and found one in Leeds. A 2007 LWB 3ltr. v6 with 105,000miles on it and it`s "awsome", at the traffic light Gran Prix not many cars can beat it, LOL. As you say the ride is so smooth, my passengers always comment on this. I had the rear air ride converted to go up & down 6-7 inches instead of 2" and a steel roof height extension which at a distance looks like a top box, also a rear ramp and onboard winch as I am a whellchair & mobility scooter taxi driver in The New Forest in Hampshire. Have shown it at the Mercedes rally at Beaulieu last year.

      I've been so tempted to buy a another one. I wouldn't settle for less than a 3.0 XLWB in black with the twin sunroof and new climate system. Pretty hard to come by these days. I've decided to look for a Spinter 518 or 519 EX police instead. I'll post a video on them if I ever get one bought.

      @@silkroadm6380 I have used Mobil1 for over 15 years in my Mercedes Taxis with no problems, If you have high mileage go for a Liqi-Moly oil additive as well, you can get Mobil1 relatively cheaply on EBay or on the Internet.

      I wanna use Cera Tec oil additive, to keep the engine clean and reduce the engine temperature as I have a lot of short drives around the city.
      I’m really in doubt and looking for some professional advice.
      Is it okay for this sort of engines?

    I drive a 2007 Viano in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany, as a Taxi, it is the 6 cylinder 3,00/3,2 liter 190HP Petrol engined one and almost as rare as rocking horse droppings.
    And yes, I have converted it to LPG otherwise it would not be viable as a Taxi.
    It was one of 6 Models built by Mercedes specially for the Saudi Arabian Embassy and has a huge cooling unit in the back, probably done to keep body parts nearly frozen? ;)
    Luckily the Taxi Laws are different to the UK and Mercedes are still the leaders in Taxis as there is no 5 year rule, no idea what will happen when the T-Modell with so much Renault bits repaces the wonderfull E-Class, I drove a Mercedes S350L for 8 years with a LPG conversion, wonderfull Taxi.
    The engine was a bit too noisy on the Viano and I then took a deep breath and put a Pint of Slick-50 variant ( Greased Lightening) and the noise dropped drastically, Liqy-Moly does a proven version of oil additive as well, more PPG as well.
    I also use a K&N filter with pre Filter that tends to lead to smoother driving,
    It is a wonderfull van that I bought cheap in the UK as it is LHD!
    Win Win Win!
    I bought it in 2016 with only 25K on the clock for 15 Grand, about 10K less than a German modell!
    Just a pity that Brexit has killed off any decent export of LHD cars to the EU?

    I said before that these are good vans apart from the rust protection. I was wrong. In 2010 when they facelifted the vans Mercedes improved the rust protection of the Vito and Viano. To be honest you don't really need to tune the 3.0 V6 CDI because it's already powerful enough and it's an extremely smooth engine. A Vito Sport X 122 CDI (122 CDI is the 3.0 V6 in the Vito) would be great to convert into a campervan.

      I've just recently picked up another one but they're getting VERY thin on the ground. It was around 6 months before I saw a low mileage clean example. This latest one had 43k on the clock when I got it. I pull the car trailer regularly so having the extra power from mapping really helps. Saying that, my most recent purchase was a GL V8 diesel and that'll probably be doing most of the towing from now on.

    Awesome finally I understand the difference if sizes, just bought a 2012 Vito 116cdi - love it... I think the T5 and T6 has a smaller boot, used one the other day a caravelle...

    • @autofanatica944
      @autofanatica944  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A good friend of mine had a tricked out T5. sadly he sold it (to buy a 639 like this no less) before I started the channel. I'd of liked to have looked at it to make a video. That was a LWB and had more luggage space than a 639 extra long. The trouble was it came at a cost. The comfort and performance just weren't there. He had the 2.0 TDi with the auto DSG and pro fit seat covers. The Vito might share alot with the Viano but there's over £10k of difference new so you'd better be getting something more for that. The Vito lacks the self levelling suspension and better seats along with not having as many extras. They are still good vans. You hear alot of people slating them for rust but I'd say a lot of that was not caring for them. My first Vito was a 2008 M8 EuroCab with nearly 500K miles on it and no rust on the body. which kind of proves that regular cleaning halts rust problems.

    • @brettalfero6245
      @brettalfero6245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Auto Fanatica aah yes the lwb t5/6 I don’t think we get the caravelle derivative here in South Africa...
      yeah I am meticulous with my cars, any work needing doing and body work gets done, my current toyota tazz (conquest) 1300 has 290000kms the Vito will be used for tours so will always be kept clean tidied and waxed... I’ll tell you what I towed a caravan 1400kms and it just gave and gave and gave, it was a hire one that I used before i got this one about 13 years ago, was the best car I have towed with, and I have towed with a good few cars the most powerful being a 6 cylinder Sierra, but the weight and height of the Vito makes it..
      thanks for the very interesting channel and response 😁

    One thing to know is the 3.0 V6 diesel in the Sprinter has less power than the one in the Viano/Vito and Mercedes passenger cars. The one in the Sprinter has 190 bhp. Still a good engine.

    • @autofanatica944
      @autofanatica944  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard that the Sprinter version has longer stroke, hence the low power but others say it's just mapped differently. I've not looked into it enough to say conclusively one way or another but if my 316 Sprinter dies, it's a V6 ill be dropping in there.

      The trouble I have with the new V class is not the interior...... It's lovely. The issue I have is that they stopped giving customers the option of the V6 diesel and didn't replace it with something else. Maybe High power hybrid or something? I had my "local" commercial dealer trying to get me to buy a couple of the new shape V class a few years ago. I told them I wouldn't come back unless the V6 became an option again. Never happened........ I've still not gone back.
      You can find good examples around £15k - £20k if you want something low mileage. They have not really dropped much in value (that says something as far as I'm concerned) and higher mileage examples sub £10k but watch out for gearbox faults on higher mileage examples and see if the history shows semi-regular gearbox oil changes.

    • @gaptaxi
      @gaptaxi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@autofanatica944 One problem with Mercedes is that they claimed the Gearbox oil was forever, but internal Mercedes fix sheets state that the automatic oil should be changed every 60,000 kilometers.
      There is a system that pumps old oil out, flushes the system and replaces the gearbox oil, highly recommended as it fixes nearly every gearbox glich!
