      Getting a handle on immigration and deportations will not only save the country money in welfare that we don't have to give them. It will also ease the housing crisis. Also, it will lead to less crime. In addition, since many undocumented workers work under the table, it will force those qoh employ them to pay payroll tax.
      Increasing oil production will increase supply relative to demand and eventually reduce the cost of fuel which reduces the cost of transportation which makes our businesses more economically viable.

    I think what Marshal talks about at the end here is exactly right, and I've kinda been wondering why a lot of the populist right viewers of Krystal and Saagar have soured on Krystal. And I think it's because Krystal used to recognize this. I don't remember specific quotes, but she used to do a better job at recognizing how the cultural leftism wasn't as important and was sometimes detrimental when it came to advocating for economic leftism. And I think the populist left has definitely been handicapped by how far the culural left has moved and become center stage in popular culture in recent years. It will definitely take someone willing to recognize that and speak to it clearly and concisely to help shift the tide for the Dems.

    • @j.c.jeggis1818
      @j.c.jeggis1818 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I've watched Krystal since she was on the Hill and used to love her. For me, it's because her Twitter brainrot has reached the stage where she can't think critically or reconcile her contradictory beliefs. Best example is her stance on immigration.
      She always mentions some study that "proves" more immigration raises everyone's wage. Then she'll add that immigrants take jobs that Americans won't accept. And yet, when Amazon brings in scabs to replace their striking workforce, she can instantly see how it depresses wages and kneecaps the bargaining power of the working class. During the COVID years, she mentioned again and again that the lowered supply of workers was a great thing for bargaining power and resulted in many union battles won.
      The only way it makes sense is if she's working backwards from the standard online leftie conclusion of "anything to do with immigrants = good".

    • @ariel-y-e-m
      @ariel-y-e-m วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @j.c.jeggis1818 Immigration is definitely where I noticed a clear breakdown in her reasonable-ness as well. As someone who is more left-leaning, I think, the amount of credence she gives to the open borders crowd is crazy. Maybe to some extent lefties like her recognized that being in the middle on the border was becoming untenable so they kinda rationalized not being open borders to themselves. The crazy part is I remember Kyle did a video talking about how the border issue is one of those issues where he's more conservative than most progressives, so I wonder if he's shifted or if they maybe don't agree on that.
      But honestly, it started earlier with her embrace of the trillion dollar coin and Modern Monetary Theory. This clearly bonkers theory that just says economics doesn't matter anymore and we can do mental gymnastics to get ourselves out of inflation without actually paying for anything was just mind-boggling to me. And it just kinda goes to show how far she sometimes will go in order to defend the most radical left-wing ideas.

    • @therealignment
      @therealignment  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thanks!
      I'll expand on this later, but the TLDR of my point is that right economic populism has an economic bent *and* a socio-cultural bent.
      A lot of leftists look at Bernier's 2016 success as a validator of the economic populist thesis, but they undercount that Bernie *also* had a socio-cultural bent. His critique of Hillary wasn't just that she didn't support Medicare for All, it was that she was 30 year veteran of Washington who owned a huge set of choices people hated. You could sign up for the anti-Hillary train without having to care about economic populism/democratic socialism.
      The 2020 campaign-plus version hasn't found it's anti-Hillary equivalent.

Realistically it needs to be phased out with an opt out raise the retirement age etc. This is reverse Robin Hood economics old people get everything and young people get screwed The best predictor to know how much net worth the person has is their age we're taking young people's much lower income with no net worth and usually a negative net worth and giving it to old people that on average have hundreds of thousands in equity in their home retirement account and then social security Medicare Medicaid It is insane. I don't know how any left-wing person who is about the quality can be for this reverse Robin Hood!

      If you're gonna complain about not wanting to pay your fair share of taxes, feel free, but crying about wanting to cut social services and disguise that under "why help old people" is wild if you understand WHY things like housing is expensive and why we created SS in the first place. It's not cause a grandma in a $100k house is getting enough checks to survive. It's cause business owners like you want to cry about paying into a system that actually does what Robinhood would do. Distribute money to those who need it. Have fun dodging your taxes.

      You, Ryan, are 1000% correct. Stealing from the young to pay the old does not work when there are so many more old than young. Problem is, one, you live in a democracy which means you'll do what the majority tells you to do, two, the elite (who can do something about this because democracy is an illusion) have no interest in doing anything about this - the opposite actually, three, even if you get rid of SS, this will get paid out of some other pot of money you will be forced to pay into disproportionally. I avoid it by living off my assets - which is zero payroll tax and I pretty much account for a loss every year.

How would that happen? Well people having less kids. Are people having less kids? Why yes, they are, quite a bit under replacement and have been for some time. Oh, you say, then just have the government use general funds to pay for the shortfall. Well, who service that debt? Grandma? No, she won't, you will still be taking from the young to enrich the old. Well, how about tax the rich? You know who pays said "taxes on the rich"? You. The rich just appropriate said taxes as an operational expense and raise prices accordingly, you are the ones who ultimately pay taxes on the rich. Well how about MMT (print money)? This is the worst case, because you pay inflation tax - and few things make the rich richer and the poor poorer than inflation. So maybe you need to think more and type less.

    I find the comment were they say that 2028 JD Vance will be different and evolved contradicts the logic around Kamala Harris, where the event of the previous election injured her electability this time around, why does this not apply to Vance with the cats and dogs and such?

    • @therealignment
      @therealignment  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Great point.
      To expand, it wasn't just that Kamala made damaging statements in 2019. Everyone makes mistakes. It was that she didn't have the confidence/awareness/ability to convince people she'd changed.
      My bet is that JD won't do anything during the Trump presidency to reinforce the cat ladies attack and will stay away from abortion and other social issues that hurt him with moderate voters.
      Unlike Kamala, who made her 2019 statements *and* couldn't account for them after being made the "Border Czar."

They get their news from social media and that’s it. The reason why Saager is better here is bc this show is a book club first. So ofc you will get a more rational discussion. Saagar puts too much meaning into Trump's win as a 'mandate' from the people, and seems to discount the anti-incumbency feeling which has hit globally. This was a change election no matter what, and Saagar is using this as a cover to push forward what "he thinks" the American people voted for, when in actuality they just wanted someone else to try to deal with inflation and high prices. And with our two party system, it happens to be Trump. (Would be more interesting of a result in a multi-party system)

    • @philosophicalthirstworms6645
      @philosophicalthirstworms6645 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You'd have more of a point if left liberal parties weren't getting crushed everywhere and not just incumbents. The only exceptions are basically England and countries where the left liberals decided to actually do something about immigration. People really hate immigration and it's been forced on people for decades.

      We dont get access to the best polls. Biden's people, prior to his drop out, had him losing far more badly than any polls at the time did. Kamala's team never had her winning, which is why they had to cope with conspiracy theories about republican women all lying to their husbands and everyone else about how theyll vote.
      Similarly, there were certainly polling reasons that Kamala's team decided to maximally distance themselves from idpol, wokeness, and DEI policies.
      There was an anti-incumbacy shift, broadly related to worldwide disatisfaction with covid measures and their consequences, but it is still cope to act like americans werent fed up with the cultural reform movements of the social left.

    Saagar argued that Elon's Hitler salute was not a Hitler Salute. That is exactly what you would expect from a fascist. If Elon wore a swasika, Saagar would say its because Elon is a fan of its ancient roots. He'd say something like "The swastika is an ancient symbol that originated in Eurasia and likely dates back to the Neolithic period, around 10,000 BCE. The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit words su (good) and asti (to be), which together mean "well-being"
